Password Required During Scan
Jun 15, 2009 A friend of mine is having a problem where he cant log into his computer. But he told me that he did not create a password for the computer. It also has a password on the admin account as well when I go through safe mode. So I took he hard drive out and set it up as a slave on another computer and scanned with nod32 and found and clean virus's. Still asks for a password. i tried ophcrack and it could not crack it. Tried offline password and that did not work either. Only thing I can think of is that maybe someone else put a password on it without him knowing it. Anyone possibly ever hear of a virus or something thats done this before.

BSOD During PerfectDisc Scan Or Registry Mechanic Scan
Nov 19, 2006I went to use PerfectDisc yesterday, it suggested I do a bootup scan, I did, allowed it to do pagefile scan too. Ran fine. Then rebooted, went to do regular scan. it locked up on the Blue Screen of Death.
"Bad_Pool_Header" and gave some error info... 0x00000019, and so on.
Computer runs fine though otherwise, which is funny.
Then when I try to go to Registry Mechanic and scan, it goes all the way through, and on I believe the deepscan, it always goes to BSOD there. I think while it's in the HKEY section of current user.
There may be other programs that will cause the BSOD, but these 2 are the only ones so far. Please guide me through this....Anyone.

Jan 26, 2006I have heard when attempting to upgrade not clean install a new os. For example the whole win98 to w2k doesnt fly good because of the fat32 to ntfs deal. so what about upgrading w2k pro with ntfs to xp pro with ntfs? is this a good thing to do now a days or is it still better to just perform a clean install over my existing os. I really would like to keep my stuff intact, but I dont want a xp upgrade. So what type of issues have you guys had upgrading w2k to xp pro?

Jul 21, 2007Recently I had a bout with Trojans (Vundo in particular) and spyware. The machine just kept rebooting. Installed XP on another partition in order to go out to the web and figure it out.. Finally I decided it would be easier to just reload. After a clean install and installing drivers for some hardware, Windows informed me it needed to reboot so the device would work correctly. After POST I got a non bootable disk error. I put the Windows DVD in to try a repair install, but wanted to see what would happen ifI let it go past press any key to boot from CD.... To my surprise I was able to get into Windows. I suspected that there might be some virus/spyware leftover in the MBR.First I uninstalled the other copy of XP, then tried repairing the MBR. Now it comes up with a missing operating system message when I reboot.I can get into windows as long as the boot from cd option is on in BIOS and I do not "select any key to boot from CD"

Sep 19, 2005I am setting up XP Pro on a PC that was previously running W98. I did not use the upgrade option. I used the new installation option.During the setup, it asked for the names of the accounts to set up. I set up 3 accounts and did not set up any passwords for these accounts. When the PC rebooted, I got the Welcome screen w/ the 3 account. All require a password. I cannot get past this screen since I do not know a password for the accounts. I have tried blank, as well as the names of the accounts.

Would you like to restart now? Yes or No) if I click yes it reboots and the same window pops up asking the same question, what do you think is wrong?

Aug 16, 2005A friend of mine had some files on their computer corrupted and they couldn't find their copy of XP that came with their computer, so I used mine to just do a system repair. I've done repairs before on my own system and it didn't ask me to activate it, so I thought this would help solve the problem. Boot Cd Required For Startup?
Apr 17, 2007Ok recentli have been having issues when starting up windows xp. Everytime i startup it asks for my boot disk. I have tried to change my boot sequence, having windows not even boot from my floppy disk, but still it looks for the boot disk. The only way i can start up my computer is by going through all 6 boot disks and after it will restart and start up windows.

Jul 4, 2005if i decide to dump linux, can you suggest me links where i can find technical information (or if you wanna tell me here on this forum i'd appreciate) about how to format the linux partition and resize the windows partition to take all the 30 gigas of my HD? if i resize windows partition can i loose all the documentation in "my documents"? from the first time i reinstalled everything i discovered "my documents" was untouched. Still am gonna do back up of all my info on the laptopif i decide to keep linux and get it operational ? can you suggest me links about how still resize the linux partition? i want to reduce it to 5 gigas cuz 15 gigas its too much disk space wasted (specially if am not gonna store my main info there, i;ll do that in windows).

Jul 22, 2005I recently had to reinstall Windows XP Home Edition on my machine because I was complacent and did not keep up on my updates. As a result, my machine as riddled with worms, trojans, etc. So, I used a Win 98 boot disk and deleted the partition and installed a fresh XP. I ordered Service Pack 2 and installed that along with Norman Antivirus. However, I still need to get up to speed from SVC Pack2. Any suggestions on where I can find these updates so I can download them?I won't be using my machine as I don't want to risk it. In other words, that page where you go and your machine is scanned for applicable updates won't work because I'll be using someone else's machine. I was hoping someone would be able to tell me exactly where to go and I'll download them onto my jumpdrive.

Jan 27, 2007I purchased a new Fujitsu Siemens XI1526 17" note book , It came with German Windows XP Home addition..Not being German I want to use my other English Win XP install disc, the notebook came with a Win XP recovery disc, it has SP2 and SATA / RAID support incoperated unlike my Win XP disc. then I format my drives and then Windows starts the install but before it does I get a message " VIA Raid Combo Driver Diskette" need to be inserted to A: Well Im using a USB floppy so again I asked Simens and they told me that my USB floppy is probably not being support "Bah" in other words "Get a diffrent make such as NEC"
But I dont want to give up their so I've spent 2 days trying to make a bootable CD with SATA / Raid incoperated using This TUT but I keep getting errors in the TXTSETUP.SIF file..My easiest solution would be to get a Siemens Fujitsu Win XP recovery disc in English "Any one have one let me know"But apart from the above info is their any other way of getting this to work apart from Disc in English from Siemens "or Similar" or a diffrent floppy drive.

We have about 150 residents registered but only a fraction of those use the computers regularly.is there some Win XP permission that will allow us to access these settings. We really don't know whether our problem lies in the server, in the SAMBA interface, or some subtle difference in the way Win XP handles user privileges compared to Win 2000.

Aug 8, 2007When I turn my computer (HP s7527c Desktop) on it only boots to the HP Administrators screen. There is no password required. If I click on the icon it only reloads the same screen. Can anyone explain what is wrong? If I click on F10 (PC Recovery) during bootup the computer works ok after the recovery process is complete.I have only had this computer less then a year and I cannot find any answer on the HP site or from their support.
