Validation Required - Buy Something To Set
Jul 31, 2005
I bought a used computer from a guy with WinXP Pro running on it.I just discovered that the new validation required for Updates will not accept my version of WinXP.I know I will probably have to buy something to set this right. What is the simplest way to get the WinXP Pro to validate? I'm trying not to have to reinstall the whole thing.

I recently got my free copy of Vista from the PowerTogether thing, and installed it on my primary hard drive. I then installed hacked XP Home on my secondary drive. The hacked copy I have includes a program that somehow removes the WPA thing, so that Windows thinks I have validated my copy. I have used this same disc before, and it has worked great. However, this time whenever I boot into XP it says I have X days remaining to activate my copy. If I run the WPA kill program off the disc, the balloon says that I have already activated, but as soon as I reboot it goes back to saying X days.
Can anyone help me with this?

I have a brand new Dell desktop, entering the world of XP for the first time. I was never prompted for any kind of validatio for the OS, though I did fill out a survey-like thing that seemed to confirm that my Windows software is legit. However, I have read here at the forums about people who don't properly "activate" their XP within 30 days, only to have Windows not work for them afterwards.

Recently I had a bout with Trojans (Vundo in particular) and spyware. The machine just kept rebooting. Installed XP on another partition in order to go out to the web and figure it out.. Finally I decided it would be easier to just reload. After a clean install and installing drivers for some hardware, Windows informed me it needed to reboot so the device would work correctly. After POST I got a non bootable disk error. I put the Windows DVD in to try a repair install, but wanted to see what would happen ifI let it go past press any key to boot from CD.... To my surprise I was able to get into Windows. I suspected that there might be some virus/spyware leftover in the MBR.First I uninstalled the other copy of XP, then tried repairing the MBR. Now it comes up with a missing operating system message when I reboot.I can get into windows as long as the boot from cd option is on in BIOS and I do not "select any key to boot from CD"

I am trying to do the Genuine Validation check so I can pull down updates for my system. The error I am getting is: Validation Incomplete: Online Validation Failure[0x80080204] There are several reasons why validation may not have succeeded. The time set on your computer may be off by more than 24 hours from your local time. Review the date and time settings for your computer. You can get there by right-mouse clicking on the clock displayed on your computers toolbar and choosing Adjust Date/Time.

My pc has a legal copy of XP. it has one of those copies that comes with the pc when you buy it.when i go to microsoft update, it won't let me download any updates untill i install the WGA.I did install it and now it's telling me that my copy is illegal I contacted MS and they said that i have to send them some proof of it being legal (installation cd's) but since it came with the pc, it doesn't have the cd's now they're telling me to send them my pc and that they won't be paying shipping i searched google to find some fix for it and tried some things. i somehow got it uninstalled, but it still won't let me download updates untill i install this tool.

Odd windows genuine validation message The scan of your computer has completed. The Windows product key associated with your copy of Windows maps to one of the major PC manufacturers who purchase Windows product keys from Microsoft. The specific product key found on your computer maps to a major PC manufacturer that sells different hardware than the hardware found on your machine. This will not prevent you from validating now, but may cause you problems in the future. Please click Continue to complete the validation process.] I have change the hardware on the machine for your info. Should I change my key on the back of the machine?

My Windows XP Pro (after 3 months use by me) has come up with a notice that my software validation is invalid. The Notice states "This copy of Windows did not pass genuine validation. The product key found on this computer is not valid for use in your region. How can I find out if any software I buy is valid for my region prior to purchase? Surely if Microsoft software is purchased anywhere in the world it should be valid no matter where you are.

I am setting up XP Pro on a PC that was previously running W98. I did not use the upgrade option. I used the new installation option.During the setup, it asked for the names of the accounts to set up. I set up 3 accounts and did not set up any passwords for these accounts. When the PC rebooted, I got the Welcome screen w/ the 3 account. All require a password. I cannot get past this screen since I do not know a password for the accounts. I have tried blank, as well as the names of the accounts.

Up until a couple of weeks ago, there was a site, blackviper.com that had some darned good information on how to make Windows XP work best for you...
(Such as, learning all the processes in task manager and which ones you need.)
But, as of late, his site is down. Does anyone have any info on this? I'm not sure this is the right forum.

A friend of mine had some files on their computer corrupted and they couldn't find their copy of XP that came with their computer, so I used mine to just do a system repair. I've done repairs before on my own system and it didn't ask me to activate it, so I thought this would help solve the problem. Unfortunatly, it is asking for an activation and we still can't find my friends copy. Is all hope lost? or is there something else I should try first? Both of us have valid copies of XP, so I didn't expect to have this
many problems by just doing a system repair. Thanks in advance

I have tried to change my boot sequence, having windows not even boot from my floppy disk, but still it looks for the boot disk. The only way i can start up my computer is by going through all 6 boot disks and after it will restart and start up windows.

A friend of mine is having a problem where he cant log into his computer. But he told me that he did not create a password for the computer. It also has a password on the admin account as well when I go through safe mode. So I took he hard drive out and set it up as a slave on another computer and scanned with nod32 and found and clean virus's. Still asks for a password. i tried ophcrack and it could not crack it. Tried offline password and that did not work either. Only thing I can think of is that maybe someone else put a password on it without him knowing it. Anyone possibly ever hear of a virus or something thats done this before.

The next time that you run a scan at the Windows Updates/Microsoft Updates site, you should be prompted to install the new update to the WGAVT. Once you do, it'll replace version 1.3.0254.0 with version 1.5.512.0.
