Genuine Validation - Validatio For The OS
Aug 1, 2006
I have a brand new Dell desktop, entering the world of XP for the first time. I was never prompted for any kind of validatio for the OS, though I did fill out a survey-like thing that seemed to confirm that my Windows software is legit. However, I have read here at the forums about people who don't properly "activate" their XP within 30 days, only to have Windows not work for them afterwards.

I am trying to do the Genuine Validation check so I can pull down updates for my system. The error I am getting is: Validation Incomplete: Online Validation Failure[0x80080204] There are several reasons why validation may not have succeeded. The time set on your computer may be off by more than 24 hours from your local time. Review the date and time settings for your computer. You can get there by right-mouse clicking on the clock displayed on your computers toolbar and choosing Adjust Date/Time.

Odd windows genuine validation message The scan of your computer has completed. The Windows product key associated with your copy of Windows maps to one of the major PC manufacturers who purchase Windows product keys from Microsoft. The specific product key found on your computer maps to a major PC manufacturer that sells different hardware than the hardware found on your machine. This will not prevent you from validating now, but may cause you problems in the future. My Windows XP Pro (after 3 months use by me) has come up with a notice that my software validation is invalid. The Notice states "This copy of Windows did not pass genuine validation. The product key found on this computer is not valid for use in your region. How can I find out if any software I buy is valid for my region prior to purchase? Surely if Microsoft software is purchased anywhere in the world it should be valid no matter where you are.

The next time that you run a scan at the Windows Updates/Microsoft Updates site, you should be prompted to install the new update to the WGAVT. Once you do, it'll replace version 1.3.0254.0 with version 1.5.512.0.

I do understand Redmond's desire to restrict updates to those with a genuine license, which I do have, but surely once it is downloaded and installed, that ought to get it done, no? I check for critical updates, the only thing that shows is this. I find it hard to believe that Win$ doesn't need one or more other critical updates pretty often. I keep d/l'ing it and installing it and it just keeps coming back as needing to be done.

This copy of Windows did not pass genuine validation. The product key found on this computer is not valid for use in your region. Began to appear after my friend returned home; his adult grand daughter had cared for his home, during his absence. Also, wallpaper is now black. Had been 1 of XP's standard wall papers. I can change it to an XP wallpaper, but after reboot, black wallpaper. My friend is unable to find his XP Pro CD; PC built by a family friend a few years ago. There is no COA on the computer [ exterior and interior surfaces ]. From my research, I have learned that the XP PID is frequently noted as to have been black listed.
"The particular Product Key you are using, which ends in 3R89F-D2KXW-VPK3J, is a widely pirated key, and it looks like it recently had a geographically block put on it to try to curb its use, which probably explains why it was showing as Genuine up until recently."

My university makes us run a Computer Assessment Tool before we bring our PC's to college. It is a good way to keep the network free of viruses and garbage. without running this tool and passing, you cannot connect to their network. of course, keep my computer squeaky clean and virus/spyware free. the only point that is keeping me from passing is that i need to download 2 windows updates. no biggie, so when i try to download them from the window's update site, but it won't download them, it errors. For some reason i am missing this Windows Genuine Advantage Validation Tool KB892130.

I've purchased new HP notebook with preinstalled Windows XP Pro SP2. When today I tried to update my copy of Windows using Microsoft update service the Genuine Windows Validation program told me I'm using an illegal version of MS Windows, I've tried to reactivate my copy of OS by changing registry key and running But when I entered the OEM license number (as per HP OEM sticker) and attempted to activate, I was politely informed that the key number was mistyped (message number 45128) and invalid, yet the activation works when I'm not change serial key, The guys from HP customer support say it is Microsoft's problem.

MS seems to have caved in on requiring validation for security updates, for the time being, so raking MS over the coals over it seems to have paid off, at least in the short run!http://google.com/news?q=Windows+Genuine+Advantage http://kurttrail.com/kblog/kblogarch/00000072.php

During installation I get a note regarding Genuine Windows Validation. Upon hitting continue I am forwarded to the Windows Genuine Advantage program where I receive the message Validation Complete!. If I then return to the install screen I am told the installation was interrupted and that I should restart the installer. Unfortunately every time I do this I get the same result. I've no problems with anything else from Microsoft including normal windows updates. PC is perfectly genuine and direct from DELL.

A friend bought this computer at a yard sale for me. It did not come with any software, so the OS Windows XP SP1 was already installed on it. When I got on the Internet I went to Microsoft download.com and proceeded to do some of there many free updates. Then I wanted to upgrade to XP SP2or3 and it asked me to validate my OS. So I did and it came back with the message "This copy did not pass genuine validation" I've had one sugestion that was to go to Linux or Ubanta.

I'm using a computer that was built by a friend (really, I promise) who installed non-genuine XP in it. I've never been a fan of pirated software, but the computer was free, so what's a boy to do?
OK, so I've put up with all the "non-genuine" reminders from Redmond figuring it was my penance, but now I'm thinking I should move on up to Vista (mainly for Media Center). And yes, the hardware is up to it.
Meanwhile, I had installed a genuine copy of XP on my previous computer before receiving this one (I still have the disks). One install, one machine. So, can I just install that genuine XP over the non-genuine one?

I recently got my free copy of Vista from the PowerTogether thing, and installed it on my primary hard drive. I then installed hacked XP Home on my secondary drive. The hacked copy I have includes a program that somehow removes the WPA thing, so that Windows thinks I have validated my copy. I have used this same disc before, and it has worked great. However, this time whenever I boot into XP it says I have X days remaining to activate my copy. If I run the WPA kill program off the disc, the balloon says that I have already activated, but as soon as I reboot it goes back to saying X days.
Can anyone help me with this?

I dont know if you can or even want to help with my problem. I purchased a second hand laptop which had XP installed. The copy of windows was legitimately installed by the Tertiary Institution the laptop was purchased from. Some time after I purchased it, I did an update, it came up with Failure to Pass Validation warning. I rang Microsoft and the Techncian who was sympathetic to my cause, told me how to remove this validation warning which I did. A couple of years later, again after an update the same warning that it failed validation. again I rang Microsoft and re-explained to the representative. He told me, it (the validation failure warning ) couldn't be removed from Service pack 2, This is NOT correct as the first technician told me how to do just that. As I bought the laptop in good faith I feel Microsoft has invaded my computer and installed a spam message on it. Any ideas how to remove it?
