View 3 RepliesThe xp install is having problems copying some of the files over. During the installation process, where there is the blue screen. you pick your timezone, computer name, ect .. a error message pops up saying: Code: An error occurred while copying file ------.Cannot copy file to destination directory.Click Retry to retry the operation, or click Cancel. The error comes up multiple times pointing out random files that it could not copy over such as "mspaint.ex_" .. ect.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI am trying to install Windows XP Prof. and it keeps failing to copy over files right after a format. It never is the same files, it has been about 15-20 different files on about 5-6 tries of installation. It asks you if you want to retry and sometimes that works, sometimes it doesn't, sometimes you have to skip. It says it could be the windows disk, but the windows disk works fine in my test machine and I can install windows perfectly over there.
View 3 Replies View RelatedFirst I attempted to install Win XP Home from a cdrom to my C partition (20 gigs, partitioned from either my 120 or 160 gig (forget which) hard drive). However it kept botching up and giving me messages about files not copying properly or being corrupted etc. I cycled through a variety of XP install cds (son's, wife's, etc) without any luck. I tried using either the CDRW or DVD drive, in case one might have been faulty...no luck, however.I figured all of this business probably gunked up the works on my C partition, so I thought I'd better format it and wipe it clean, which I did using a Win98 SE boot CD and loading FDISK. I wanted to partition the 20 gig into 2 x 10 gig so that I could limit the C partition to pretty much only Win XP. Silly me...! Turned out I made a 2 MB partition with the remainder of the partition seemingly unavailable to me...couldn't see it when attempting to view partition information.
View 14 Replies View RelatedI have a Dell 2350 Pentium4 1.8 gig Running WinXP Servicepack 1. When trying to install service pack2 thru automatic updates, the installation seems to be going fine. Then, while copying new files to the computer (after backing up and setting a restore point) I get a message that says "Generic host proces for Win32 Services encountered a problem and needs to close". The file copying continues in the backround. The standard message asks if I want to send the error to Microsoft. I send it and the file copying continues. After five more minutes copying files an error message pops up:"Access is denied". The system requires a click on "OK" and the old system is restored. I have tried to install several times with the same results.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to write a batch file that will copy files from a folder on the desktop to various files on the C drive. From what I understand it should be like this: copy c:documents and settings\%userprofile%desktopinstallfilename.txt c:windowsfilename.txt
with %userprofile% in place of the actual user profile name because it will be different each time I run this batch file. This, however, is not working.
I'll share what comes up when I right click Properties in each case:A file on a shared folder on my home Windows network that is being denied access to for copying. It is specifically this file as the other files are being read/copied wirhout issue. And, I can open this file on the computer on which the drive physically resides, just not copy it to the other machine. On right clicking file and getting the Properties screen - boxes for Read only and Hidden attributes are unchecked, and the only tabs available are Custom and Summary (no Security tab). An Outlook archive (.pst) that was created on computer A, which was copied on to network B (for backup purposes). Since computer A died, I need to open this archive, but on right clicking the file and requesting open with Outlook, I get the message: file may not exist, you may not have permissions, or may be opened by another user. Same situation on the Properties screen (except only other tab is Summary) as on the earlier point.
View 10 Replies View RelatedI am encountering this error when copying a large number of files from one external hard drive to another. I have Windows XP. A number of files will copy prior to the error occurring. The error occurs when the copying process reaches a file that my Trend Micro security software had identified as a virus and had quarantined.
Instead of simply skipping the file that cannot be copied and moving to the next, Windows Explorer displays the error "Error copying file: cannot read from source or disk" and aborts the copying process, leaving the copying process only partially complete. Copying each folder or file individually to avoid encountering the error would be very time consuming.
I'm having a problem "finding" my music files after I moved some files around on the computer between users. My simple solution was to copy them to an external HD and the re-load them so I searched for all music files then selected all and attempted to copy them to the external HD, but I got an error message: "cannot copy file.cannot read from the source file or disk".
View 6 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to back up some stuff to an external hard drive. And there are errors in movies that I have ripped (because I either forget to put them back in the case or they get lost) some movies and whenever I try to move the video file (ripped int a AUDI0_TS file and a VIDEO_TS file) I have an error box where the title of the window in the blue bar says "Error Copying File or Folder" and in the window (the gray part) it says "Cannot copy VTS_01_2" Data error (cyclic redundancy check).". And then I click the "OK" button and it stops the transfer. The VTS_01_2 is sometimes replaced with whatever file that cannot be transferred or that is causing the problem. I used DVDShrink and DVD43 to back them up. I am running Windows XP sp3 and transferring them onto a 300 GB hard drive.

at first my PC was making funny effects. The screen goes blank and no screen comes out after XP finishes booting up. Frequent reboots were needed to get into XP. Didn't care at this stage as i was able to still do my work.
After few weeks, the PC goes mad with BAD POOLER CALL errors and restarts and i could not get my way into XP same goes for Safe Mode. So i decided to repair my XP...
It all goes fine, when installation goes halfway at "Copying files..." screen goes black, DVDROM goes disco in the LEDs and the PC restarts by itself. This happens endlessly.
I am trying to get a desktop up and running that was left at my house by my friend when he moved. I was advised to re-install XP so that I could have a fresh start, but when I did, I waited 2 hours only to have an error code.It was after the installation when checking the disks and said,Critical error: windows cannot copy the intl.inf file. It was doing was restarting, trying to reboot, giving me the same pop-up. I tried to shut it down and see if I could re-do... No good. Now it's stuck in a reboot cycle, and the windows logo screen (with that wonderful ticking bar) stays for about 25 minutes before rebooting.

View 2 Replies View RelatedPlease provide some tip or guidelines to help me with this script for me to reinstall MDAC.inf unattended. The script runs properly but the only problem is that, it'll prompt for "i386" folder originally in Windows XP cd. I've copied the whole folder to one of our network drive and was wondering is there any commands that could be added to the script above so that it won't prompt for the "i386" folder location so that no user interaction is required?
View 7 Replies View RelatedI have recently tried to reinstall some oldish games (rainbow 6, Total Annhilation) and when you select install, an error pops up:
16 bit windows subsystem
C:WINDOWSSYSTEM32AUTOEXEC.NT. The system file is not suitable for running MS-DOS and Microsoft Windows applications. Choose 'Close' to terminate the application. Examination of that folder shows that I do not have a file called Autoexec.nt at all, is this correct? These games have run on this PC before and the error applies to multiple games suggesting a system problem. Is there a way of repairing or checking windows to replace this file. I did get a virus recently however Norton said it quarantined it - this might have
affected windows though prior to this I had noticed no differeance.
