I am trying to get a desktop up and running that was left at my house by my friend when he moved. I was advised to re-install XP so that I could have a fresh start, but when I did, I waited 2 hours only to have an error code.It was after the installation when checking the disks and said,Critical error: windows cannot copy the intl.inf file. It was doing was restarting, trying to reboot, giving me the same pop-up. I tried to shut it down and see if I could re-do... No good. Now it's stuck in a reboot cycle, and the windows logo screen (with that wonderful ticking bar) stays for about 25 minutes before rebooting.
I recently had a new PC built for me by a friend of mine. It had some problems intially so he re-installed Windows XP and changed the RAM voltage to 1.90 in the Setup menu as the PC boots up.Anyways, he kept my PC for about 2 weeks while I was on vacation, running various programs and using it for all kinds of tasks on a regular basis, and everything was fine.I've had it home for a couple of weeks now. Every once in awhile something seemed wrong, but usually a good reboot would solve any problems...so no big deal. However, within the past week, it's had terrible troubles rebooting. This is basically what will happen. A. It will boot up to the Windows loading screen, but right before it gets to the screen where you select a user, it crashes with a quick flash of the blue screen of death (I see it for like 1/5 of a second--so I can't read what it says) and reboots. Sometimes when it reboots I get the option to boot up in Safe mode. When the problems first started, I could boot up in Safe Mode, restart from Safe mode and everything would be fine. Now, however, I'm usually not so lucky. B.When I finally get it booted up, I'll get some Error about a Registry file that had to be recovered from an alternate copy: Recovery was successful. After that, I usually get error reports for the following programs. These are the most common programs that will randomly cease to function, but there are usually some other error codes thrown in there too. 1. MSN Live Messenger 2. GoogleChat (internal error) 3. AcroTray 4. AVG anti-virus 5. Logitech Messenger C. Here are some other errors I have recieved at random times. Some I've got only once in many reboots, others have shown up a few times. The most recent ones are at the bottom. 1. Nvidia Driver error 2. SoundMax 3. Smax4PNP 4. Exception has occurred while trying to run C: Windows/system32/NVCPl.dll/NVstartup 5. Some error with SetfilePoanter/Kennel32.dll 6. Runtime error System32/svchost.exe 7. Windows has recovered from a serious error. I had a thread on here before, but it got deleted so I'm starting a new one with fresh new problem.I set chkdsk /r to run on system startup, and it ran but took forever to scan file data (I left it running for 4 days) so I rebooted but it started chkdsk again! Theres obviously something telling it to run the scan on next startup because it never finished the first time. Now if I run it it just freezes at 0% for checking file data.It I go into startup options and tell it to boot in safe mode, it shows it loading all the drivers and then pauses and says "Press Esc to cancel loading a347bus.sys" and whether I press Esc or not it freezes. If I do last known good configuration, it runs into the chkdsk problem again.
I returned home the other day after shutting my computer down for the first time in a couple weeks. I turned it on it got to the Windows log on and shut down and constantly reboots over and over. I tried chkdsk /r I couldnt get /f to work by itself Last know configure didnt work I foolishly tried this LINK Then I read in another forum that it could be a bad driver. I do recall when I was able to get in safe mode an error for my printer came up so I want to get in safe mode and try to uninstall it. but now safe mode won't work and after doing that part in the link its says I have 2 O/s to choose from?
A friend of mine gave me an HP Pavilion ze4400. It had Windows XP installed on it when he gave it to me. I moved out of the area and forgot to take the XP CD with me. I was having problems with picking up wireless networks using my USB wireless adapter. Uninstalling and reinstalling the program for the adapter didn't fix anything, in fact, it made it worse. So I thought I would try using an XP CD to correct the problems that way. I had no idea that XP CDs weren't all the same.I put the CD that I had for my IBM laptop in the HP and it started to install. After about 10 minutes or so, I got a "Fatal Error":"An error has been encountered that prevents Setup from continuing. One of the components that Windows needs to continue setup could not be installed. The operation was canceled by the user.Press OK to view the Setup log file"The Systel Setup Log:"Error:The signature for Windows XP Home Edition Upgrade is invalid. The error code is 426.The service has not been started.
My friend is running Windows XP Home Edition with Service Pack 2 and occasionally his computer shuts itself down then restarts it's self.I have run diagnostics on every component in his system and they all passed.
Can I eliminate this problem by shutting off the automatic reboot; And, if so, where would I find that?
If needed, I have a floppy with a list of the programs running in the back ground on his computer.
Picked up a computer from my parents the other night that has stopped working. When it is turned on it goes throught the normal process of recognising the BIOS, running some checks on processor, memory clock, primary master etc., but once these checks are done it jumps to the screen that says: We apologize for the inconveneince. Windows did not start successfully etc., and then asks me to select from Safe Mode Safe Mode with Networking Safe Mode with command prompt Last known configuration Start Windows normally
running XP setup from CD to try to do a repair results in "no installed drives found." when placed in another system as a slave, its found as quickly as the master HD is when its alone, and seems to function normally - chkdsk & surface scan find no errors & kaspersky finds no MBR or other problems. i even used TestDisk to rewrite the partition table and MBR to no avail. i'm able to copy off all my files, but would like to know if there are other things i can try. is there a way to XP setup repair / replace boot files on a drive other than C:? or can i use anything from a working system to fix the slave drive? can i ghost the partition and put it on a new HD and run repair there or will the boot problems be copied with the image?
I am running windows xp sp3. I tried to uninstall Frost Wire, via add or remove programs. I noticed that after it supposedly uninstalled from the a or r file the shortcut was still listed on my desktop. So I searched for F W and found a few references that popped up after my search. When I right clicked on them and tried to delete, that is when I received the above error message
Ok, using this help website, http://xphelpandsupport.mvps.org/how...air_a_stop.htm I am at the harder method, but encountered some problems.md tmp(nothing really happened not sure if anything was supposed to) copy c:windowssystem32configsystem c:window mpsystem.bak (copied fine) copy c:windowssystem32config software c:windowmpsoftware.bak (it says the file can not be copied). Do I go on with the rest of the tutorial, or where exactly do I go from here? Is there any possibility that I will not have to reformat and get my old computer back?

When trying to run my Iomega backup, I receive an error on a file: "The system cannot find the file".When trying to delete this file, I receive the message "Cannot delete file: cannot read from the source file or disk".The file has 0 bytes and is not in use it is not marked read only.
I guess the question asks what I'd like to know. I'm trying to set up the programmable keys on my new keyboard and I'm supposed to type in the file paths.
I have started getting the following message in my event viewer: Event ID 7000 Service Control Manager The SVKP service failed to start. The system cannot find the file specified. I did a search for SVKP on the services displayed via Sysinfo and got the following result: ??windows Kernal Driver State=stopped I did a full search for SVKP on my hard drive but came up with nothing
Where in Windows XP explorer can I find the owner of a file that is the last person who saved as I used to be able in Windows 2000 explorer by right clicking the file choosing properties/advance/owner.
"GetLastError()=2: The system cannot find the file specified"
This is the error message I get when trying to uninstall a program (corel painter). I can't even access the program. When I do I get a "R6002 floating point cannot be loaded error."
I have a PC with XP sp2 home addition. there are some corrupt files due to a virus (cleaned now). When I try to either reinstall or deinstall Windows XP sp2 I receive the "the system cannot find the file specified" error. I extracted the sp2 .exe file and run the update.exe file and get the same error. I tried to look at the event viewer, but, it is corrupt as well
I currently have XP SP3 V.3300 installed on my computer. My audio driver seems to be having problems with SP3 for some reason (*which I found from a bit of searching around on the internet). Consequently, I have been trying to uninstall it to re-install SP2, but I cant find the file to uninstall under add/remove.
my XP install started acting up and whenever it loaded the XP boot screen, my HDD light stayed on, and after a couple of minutes, my computer restarted itself. To find the problem, I started XP in safe mode, and it went to load up till a file mup.sys(?), can't remember. I re-plugged my SATA cable (I have a Samsung SpinPoint 160GB on a MSI P965 Neo-F running a Core 2 Duo E6600 at stock clocks), switched the cable, and checked that my mobo's bios was emulating the RAID device on IDE. The thing is, every other OS finds my HDD (even Win 2000!): Linux, Vista, Mac OS-X (I was desperate). I'm running openSUSE 10.2 right now, and I desperately need Windows back! My dad won't let me install Vista yet.
When I boot up my xp pc the very last acion on bootup is a message box that states" Cannot Find Resource FIle". I go to Event Viewer and there are two items there:
1)The COM+ Messages service failed to start due to the following error: The system cannot find the file specified.
2)The following boot-start or system-start driver(s) failed to load: SMPLSCSI
Until recently 1 month ago, this message box never appeared. What is SMPLSCSI and how can I make this messagebox go away?
I have a file in my start menu and I would like to find the source of this (shortcut) file. I tried right-clicking, viewing properties. It does not say where the shortcut comes from. Also, the file is Adobe Acrobat 9 Pro, but I can't find the original file .exe where this is launching from. I checked C:Program Files, but that only has the initial set up files. Where are the actual files?
every time i open my pc a error displayingWINDOWS CANNOT FIND SCVHOSTS.EXE,MAKE SURE YOU TYPED THE NAME CORRECYLY AND THEN TRY AGAIN.TO SEARCH FOR A FILE ,CLICK THE STAT BUTTON AND THEN CLICK SEARCH.
this is appearing after i healed the threats detected by avg.
My 2nd drive isn't allowing me to delete any files from it. when i try i get an error that reads "error deleting file cannot find specified path". this started occurring when the wires on the drive came loose causing the drive to intermittently lose power. i fixed that and now i'm screwed.what i've done: i tried deleting from safe mode and that didn't work. i checked all the wires on my drives and they are fine now. i got a program called "moveonboot" that deleted a few files, but i want to fix the problem, not find a way around it.
I have recently installed this OS on the PC I'm using right now, it used to have Win ME, which is probably by far the worst Windows that has ever existed. The PC runs way better than it used to overall, but I do have one big **** of a problem: I recieve an error message that says "can't find the specified file" when I try to install a program. Programs I've tried to install:
Adobe Reader Winzip W2KSP4 (service pak 4) Windows installer 3.1 And a few more.
Basically anything that has to be extracted or self-extracts. Could this be a problem with the temporary folder, or not enough RAM? (128 MB) Also: I have saved all this programs on the hard drive, I'm not running them from a network, the internet, or any other drive. Keep in mind that I can't install winzip or winrar so I can't use them to fix any problems. I've scanned the hard drive for errors (complete surface scan), ran virus and spyware checks... I have Spyware Doctor and AVG Free antivirus installed on my PC, I don't know if either could be interfering with my PC's performance.
