Where in Windows XP explorer can I find the owner of a file that is the last person who saved as I used to be able in Windows 2000 explorer by right clicking the file choosing properties/advance/owner.
View 6 RepliesFirst, I still have problem to set a folder to be private. It should be a VERY EAY task.But when I right click the Property of a folder on D: drive its "Make this private" check box is gray out.So I can NOT make a folder be private in D: drive.
It seem to me the private folders are private under "My Documents" in C: drive.
I read from Help, it says a drive MUST be NTFS
But I type
convert D: /fs:ntfs
It says my D drive already is NTFS format.
Since it already in NTFS, then why I can't
make it private?
I have a used laptop and have removed all of the previous owner's data. I have created a new user. I have changed the owner's name in My Computer and in the registry. Everything works well and I can find all my new files in My Documents as I expect. However in C:Docs and Settings there is a folder with the old owner's name. XP will not let me rename it or delete it and says it is "a Windows system folder and is requred for Windows to run properly". Apparently some part of XP is still using some files/folders in the old owner's name folder. How can I get around this so I can clean up my disk and delete the old owner's folder?

I noticed that after it supposedly uninstalled from the a or r file the shortcut was still listed on my desktop. So I searched for F W and found a few references that popped up after my search. When I right clicked on them and tried to delete, that is when I received the above error message

This is only SOME exe's. Particularly, older programs. Word, excel, WordPerfect all work. Older apps don't.

View 4 Replies View RelatedApparently this is a home built computer, and right now it doesn't even realise it has CD drives. The owner re-partitioned it and now all it has on it is DOS 6.2.
I try to use the 4 disk boot disks but I keep getting errors - file not found or corrupt, etc.
I bought a used laptop with microsoft xp pro. The name of the former owner is always showing on the top when I use internet explorer or outlook express... It's a nuisance but that's OK. Yesterday I installed a program and cannot use it because I have a message :the microsoft jet database engine cannot open the file, it is already opened exclusively by another user or you need pemission. How do I get permission, or how do I change the registry to remove the former owner?

Open the registry and go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREMicrosoftWindows NTCurrentVersion
Now just change the value for RegisteredOwner and RegisteredOrganization.
About a year or so ago I had been using my home pc when I worked remotely. I've since been provided with a laptop and so my home pc is just my home pc. To find the problem, I started XP in safe mode, and it went to load up till a file mup.sys(?), can't remember. I re-plugged my SATA cable (I have a Samsung SpinPoint 160GB on a MSI P965 Neo-F running a Core 2 Duo E6600 at stock clocks), switched the cable, and checked that my mobo's bios was emulating the RAID device on IDE. The thing is, every other OS finds my HDD (even Win 2000!): Linux, Vista, Mac OS-X (I was desperate). I'm running openSUSE 10.2 right now, and I desperately need Windows back! My dad won't let me install Vista yet.

this is appearing after i healed the threats detected by avg.
My 2nd drive isn't allowing me to delete any files from it. when i try i get an error that reads "error deleting file cannot find specified path". this started occurring when the wires on the drive came loose causing the drive to intermittently lose power. i fixed that and now i'm screwed.what i've done: i tried deleting from safe mode and that didn't work. i checked all the wires on my drives and they are fine now. i got a program called "moveonboot" that deleted a few files, but i want to fix the problem, not find a way around it.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI have recently installed this OS on the PC I'm using right now, it used to have Win ME, which is probably by far the worst Windows that has ever existed. The PC runs way better than it used to overall, but I do have one big **** of a problem: I recieve an error message that says "can't find the specified file" when I try to install a program. Programs I've tried to install:
Adobe Reader
Winzip
W2KSP4 (service pak 4)
Windows installer 3.1
And a few more.
Basically anything that has to be extracted or self-extracts. Could this be a problem with the temporary folder, or not enough RAM? (128 MB) Also: I have saved all this programs on the hard drive, I'm not running them from a network, the internet, or any other drive. Keep in mind that I can't install winzip or winrar so I can't use them to fix any problems. I've scanned the hard drive for errors (complete surface scan), ran virus and spyware checks... I have Spyware Doctor and AVG Free antivirus installed on my PC, I don't know if either could be interfering with my PC's performance.
I am having problems being able to install updates from microsoft. I uninstalled SP3 and when trying to reinstall, I get the "The system cannot find the file specified" message. View 11 Replies View RelatedI've tried and searched throughout the wholeee web it seems like, and I just can't figure out this problem. This error message pops up everytime I try to unzip a .exe file. I've already checked for antivirus programs that might be blocking it, but there's nothing.
I just can't figure it out. All the other stuff from the .zip unzips, but when it reaches the .exe file it gives the error.
I am trying to get a desktop up and running that was left at my house by my friend when he moved. I was advised to re-install XP so that I could have a fresh start, but when I did, I waited 2 hours only to have an error code.It was after the installation when checking the disks and said,Critical error: windows cannot copy the intl.inf file. It was doing was restarting, trying to reboot, giving me the same pop-up. I tried to shut it down and see if I could re-do... No good. Now it's stuck in a reboot cycle, and the windows logo screen (with that wonderful ticking bar) stays for about 25 minutes before rebooting.
View 6 Replies View RelatedIt all started a few weeks ago when I could not move a folder to the recycle bin because it "could not find it". This week i did somehow get it to move there, but when i tried to delete it for good I got the same error. So i used Tune-Up Utilities 2008 in an attempt to get rid of it. The folder is gone, but the error remains. I think the bin is not working properly anymore either. I moved some folders of music to the recycle bin but they weren't there yet rar files i had deleted were. I have tried many many different commands, and a "restore recycle bin" registry edit, and safe mode.
View 2 Replies View RelatedWindows XP Home, version 2002, SP2. Windows explorer will not find files that I can navigate to. Since I can navigate to them I know they exist. I'm looking for heart rate monitor files using .hrm as the search term and WE says it can't find any files. I can go to C:/program files etc. and get to the files. File formats are xxxxxx.hrm, with xxxxxx being the date. Searching for .hrm on my laptop finds all of the files with no problem.
