About a year or so ago I had been using my home pc when I worked remotely. I've since been provided with a laptop and so my home pc is just my home pc. I removed all work based software and all references I could find to my company and yet my company shows up along with my name whenever I install new software.

View 4 Replies View RelatedApparently this is a home built computer, and right now it doesn't even realise it has CD drives. The owner re-partitioned it and now all it has on it is DOS 6.2.
I try to use the 4 disk boot disks but I keep getting errors - file not found or corrupt, etc.
while it looks like it has loaded fine, it appears that I am able to create some kind of error where another of the exact piece I'm moving is created. This new piece then replaces another piece, seemingly at random, rendering the puzzle unable to be completed since it is now missing a piece and with one duplicate piece. I've cleared the cache for all three browsers constantly, and set my javascript to not store any files on my computer so that it loads the puzzles every time, but it still gives me that error.
I've come to realise it might be an issue with my version of java, which is kind of hilarious seeing that the old versions seem to work fine, but the latest version won't. (Using build 1.6.0_20-b02) Uninstalled all my Java, installed a version that works on another computer (build 1.6.0_17-b04), with the same error
If you wanna burn a CD on one of your company's computers, and if that computer has cd-burning disabled, you think: Huh? It's just a checkbox! Well it ain't. They have probably used a reghack which i call cdr_off. Authority/System - Remote Call Service terminated unexpectedly" in 60 seconds it rebooted the computer.The process repeated itself whenever the computer was rebooted.I found news messages that others had had this experience when a certain virus was active in 2003 and concluded that somehow I had been infected. I've been troubled by viruses and trojans on an older computer (Pentium4) and decided to reinstall XP from the disc to see if I can "start over". I have another primary computer, so it doesn't hurt me to lose all the files etc. I'd rather start with a clean slate. Anyway, the XP install from the disc with SP1 went fine. Then I installed SP2 per the request of the windows update monitor. So I restore my system back to the point before I installed the fonts - and everything is fine. Even if I install just ONE font and it is NOT an italic font, my browser display turns into italics again. This is driving me crazy and I don't know what the problem is.

View 3 Replies View RelatedFirst, I still have problem to set a folder to be private. It should be a VERY EAY task.But when I right click the Property of a folder on D: drive its "Make this private" check box is gray out.So I can NOT make a folder be private in D: drive.
It seem to me the private folders are private under "My Documents" in C: drive.
I read from Help, it says a drive MUST be NTFS
But I type
convert D: /fs:ntfs
It says my D drive already is NTFS format.
Since it already in NTFS, then why I can't
make it private?
I bought a used laptop with microsoft xp pro. The name of the former owner is always showing on the top when I use internet explorer or outlook express... It's a nuisance but that's OK. Yesterday I installed a program and cannot use it because I have a message :the microsoft jet database engine cannot open the file, it is already opened exclusively by another user or you need pemission. How do I get permission, or how do I change the registry to remove the former owner?

Open the registry and go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREMicrosoftWindows NTCurrentVersion
Now just change the value for RegisteredOwner and RegisteredOrganization.
I have a used laptop and have removed all of the previous owner's data. I have created a new user. I have changed the owner's name in My Computer and in the registry. Everything works well and I can find all my new files in My Documents as I expect. However in C:Docs and Settings there is a folder with the old owner's name. XP will not let me rename it or delete it and says it is "a Windows system folder and is requred for Windows to run properly". Apparently some part of XP is still using some files/folders in the old owner's name folder. How can I get around this so I can clean up my disk and delete the old owner's folder?

View 1 Replies View RelatedMy owner account (where most of my files are) has been magically changed to "account unknown" under the System Properties/Advanced/User Profiles. I "see" the "Account Unknown" listed, but I am unable to access it. I tried signing in as the administrator, but no luck. I checked Windows help online, but no luck. I called Sony Vaio support, (support?), no luck. I am running XP Home Edition SP2 will all updates. I have found out that the files aren't gone, according to online readings, but getting to them is another matter. I'm a minister and all of my sermons funerals baptisms etc. are connected with the "Owner" profile.

Did a clean install of xp a few months back, when I booted it up shows 2 copies of windows. The (default) gives me an error when I try to boot it. Never really bothered me before but I need to be able to have windows restart automatically now. There is only one OS, no dual booting what so ever. If I go into Start up and Recovery only one OS is shown. So I can't switch the default, that would be to easy. Anyone have any ideas? This is what my boot.ini looks like
View 8 Replies View RelatedI have a sony CRX220E1 CD-RW installed. It has worked well, but now "My Computer" shows it only as a CD, but Device manager shows it as a CD-RW and says it is working normally. User software does not now recognize it as a CD-RW.
View 14 Replies View Relatedmy e6400 cpu does not show up in device manager. it shows up in the bios, and it shows up in the system information screen that lists your computer name, memory installed etc. it does not appear in device manager and task manager only shows one cpu. this is an intel core2 duo processor. system works good just doesnt show up in device manager in windows xp sp2.

I made 2 partitions on this drive, one for the system and on the other one (D) I put the majority of any user files I might have had (inc. mp3's, avi's, mpg's, jpg's, etc.). Everything was fine at first, and after a week or so, my D partition shows up on my computer but is inaccessible. I get "Disk is not formatted" whenever I try to access it.I have a lot of recordings on that drive that have no backup anywhere.

problems.
1. In a folder window (ie My Computer or Explorer) the title bar only shows
the first letter of the path. If the path is C: emp the "C" is displayed if
D:archive then "D" is displayed. I have tried going to "Tools--->folder
option ---->view and select "show full path in title bar" and checking and
unchecking. I have tried different fonts and different size fonts.But still
the title bar is unchanged.
A small program called Window XP Key Viewer shows my OS key differently. I have no idea about the reliability of this program. If anyone of you have some idea about this matter please help me.Does OS changed the key that I used when I installed the OS for security reason? Is there anyway to check the serial number of my OS.

However, mine has suddenly stopped doing that, zip files now only show up on the right of the screen. Anyone know why this would happen, and a quick fix?
