Home Repair Shows Error/Install Cd Can Not Recognized
Oct 25, 2006
I just tried to repair my windows XP Home with the XP CD in the drive and with a boot up - I got to "Windows XP Licensing agreement" "End User license agreement" "F8=I agree ESC=I do not agree PAGE DOWN= Next Page"When I press F8 nothing happens, when I press ESC nothing happens, When I press PAGE DOWN it works, but thats no help. Also if I just insert the XP Home CD (without a boot up later) and try a normal repair off the CD a message advises me as follows : "install Cd not recognized, your info on hard drive is a later version" OR something like that.So how can I repair XP home if it is not recognized when i already have SP1 and SP2 installed?

I have successfully completed a repair install but not all of the old user accounts are accessible using windows explorer. Two accounts plus the old administrator account show 'Access Denied'. I would like to retrieve the accounts' files and know the old passwords. I can't even delete them.

I've been troubled by viruses and trojans on an older computer (Pentium4) and decided to reinstall XP from the disc to see if I can "start over". I have another primary computer, so it doesn't hurt me to lose all the files etc. I'd rather start with a clean slate. Anyway, the XP install from the disc with SP1 went fine. Then I installed SP2 per the request of the windows update monitor. The install proceeded fine until a copy error occurred.Copy Erro Error occurred while copying file sprb0414.dll.Cannot copy file to directory.

In a little bit of a situation. My laptop is not loading up, after about 20secs it states "Disk read error occurred- CLT+ALT+DEL to restart. But it just happend again and again. I've been reading around and everyone is saying just use the xp install disk to repair the master boot, problem is I have moved that many time is the past 2years I have no idea where that CD is.I've downloaded DiskInternals Boot CD and it will start on this. But it wont actaully repair the disk, just scan it I've used diskcheck via cmd on the boot cd but it states there is a master boot registry failure.

I rebooted computer and got an error about a missing or corrupt file so windows would not even start to load.I got the bright idea that I could do a repair install of Windows. After the repair install copied the files necessary, it restarted the computer and I got the same "file missing or corrupt" error. So I found the file that was corrupt online and copied it to the HDD.Now my problem is that the Windows repair install is giving me an error after it loads the install and comes up with the install screen.

On trying to install windows, all the file copying went well. Restarted my computer, and windows ran finishing up the second half of the installation. Then, I get an error that states the following:Fatal Error:One of the components that Windows needs to continue setup could not be installed. Installation Failed: D:ROOTXPHO1386asms. Error message: Data error (cyclic redundancy check). If it is just a CD error, is there any way to download a Windows XP Home OEM and burn it to a disc and run it from CD-ROM? Or can I try copying the CD and see if it fixes the error? Or are there any other solutions that I am not seeing?

I'm having all sorts of problems with my computer (Windows Explorer shutting down, DVD drive not reading blank or used DVD+Rs correctly, etc). Tried to repair using SFC /Scannow but since it says that there are files that are missing or replaced by other files it asks for the SP2 CD- which I don't have since it was an automatic download.
1. Any way to remove SP2? It's not listed in the add/remove programs?
2. If I put in the SP1a CD, will it repair Windows to the SP1A setting WITHOUT causing me to lose all my data?
3. Are there problems with the updates from last week because all the problems started after the seven automatic downloads.
4. Can I download the SP2 somewhere online and run it to correct the problems?

I have xp sp2 installed with dual boot to Ubuntu on a toshiba a15-s127. I only have an SP1 disk. Can I use an XP Media center sp2 rollup to repair the MBR and then delete the ubuntu partition? I read the section on making an sp2 repair disk out of a sp1 disk but that seems like more work than reinstalling and updating the sp1 system.

I have XP Home edition with SP2 installed, but an SP1 CD.I recently had to perform a repair install from the CD after the system refused to start (following the help from another PC).The system now boots, but is very slow and just doesn't seem right.Checking the software version, I now have XP with SP1, but when I try to
reapply SP2 the system tells me it has already been applied so won't reload it.My installation logs reflect the pre-repair situation, and I seem to have created some SP1/SP2 hybrid. Microsoft Update is telling me that I need to download a number of SP1 patches. Can I tell the system it is SP1 and then reload SP2? Or am I looking at a complete reinstall from scratch to get things straightened out?

This started out as a bad NTOSKRNL.exe issue, eventually after using the boot dist to get me to the comand prompt (via boot disk) I tried using a chkdsk /r for this issue. It would go up to 80%. hti back to 50% and creep along and it almost took 2 hours for a partial (though not complete scan of the disk) normal chkdsk finds no errors odd.I cannot go through with the XP setup repair, because it goes to the above error. The harddrive light at the moment is almost steady on, though the 'read/write' noise is intermittent.I am trying to load thos CPU without f disking this but it seems like the little boy at the dyke analogy, one hole gets plugged and another opens up.

I have just started to have problems with my Acer T120E Aspire. When the pc is switched on it boots up as normal, showing the Windows XP home edition splash screen and goes to user accounts. When one is selected, it does'nt matter which one, it goes through the logging in procedure, showing the 'loading your personal settings' screen. However, after about ten seconds it goes blank the cpu fan cuts in and the computer restarts again.I decided to repair XP as I could'nt even log in under safe mode. I borrowed a disc as I have misplaced the original disc that was supplied.

"Floppy Disk not Recognized in Clean Install"
I am attempting a clean installation of Windows XP on a new disk. I have 3rd party drivers to install but the system at this step fails to recognize the floppy drive. At least it fails to respond to the F6 > S > 'Insert ... floppy disk ...' sequence. The drive is required for the floppy disks on which the drivers are located.
Is there a way around this, putting them on a CD or USB since some computers are coming now without floppy disks.
BTW the floppy drives works with an Alt. Boot using Win 2K Pro

Audio died recently, though I realize that now in retrospect.Started running real slow, finally died 4 weeks ago, MOBO wouldn't recognize Hard drive.after trying everything under the sun, I finally bought new harddrive. I installed winXP sp2 After installation, No Network connections. After trouble shooting I discovered that when I change the BIOS to enable on board ethernet, the MOBO recognizes that the PCI ethernet card is there and installs network connections...BUT, when I plug in the cable from the router, It does NOT see the bandwidth. It reads 10MBps when my laptop (plugged into the sme router ) reads 100. Additionally there is a green light on the back indicating that there is a connection AND my router lights up like something is connected. My device manager WILL show the ethernet card and that it is working properly. BUT no network connection (can't browse the I-net, can't connect to other computers on my network, PC is not visible to others on the network. total bytes sent and received remains 0.

Here is the situation, I have a Dell 700M Inspiron Laptop running windows XP. I have 2 usb ports and alternate between 3 devices - a usb mouse, my pocket pc cell phone, and a Western Digital Mybook External Hard drive. All of a sudden my USB ports stopped recognizing my devices. It still sends power though because I can still plug in my cell phone to charge it. The problem is that the computer fails to recognize any devices anymore, even my mouse. I have uninstalled and reinstalled the drivers and restarted my computer several times, I even tried system restore. It may have to do with the fact that I accidently unplugged my hard drive while it was still running without using safely remove my hardware. I have heard stories of western digital harddrives causing BIOS and motherboard failures.

Due to several fundamental errors in my Windows installation, today I decided to make a repair install of my Windows XP Home installation. I booted into my Windows disc, did all the normal stuff, and it seemed to go fine. At the end of the text-based stuff, it gave me the instruction to reboot, having moved the files it needed to the HDD, I believe. Anyway, the jist is that the text-based stuff seemed to go fine, I rebooted as instructed, and then did NOT click to boot from the CD (which, I believe, was the right choice). I let Windows load normally but... no GUI based stuff came up to finish off the repair installation, and consequently, what I've done seems to have had no effect whatsoever.

There was a power outage at my house yesterday while I was away. When I came home my computer screen was black and displayed the message: boot disk error, insert system disk and press enter.
I tried rebooting but the message persisted (after going through the initial information about IDE stuff). I went into the bios to see if my hard drive was dead, but the bios still recognized it and my secondary hard drive. I also tried to boot from a Window XP cd and repair Windows on my master drive, but the error message came up regardless of the cd drive I used I have a CD drive and a CDRW/DVD drive. In both instances where I had the CD in one of the two CD drives, the CD was spinning and presumably being read) but I could never get the computer to boot off of it. (Note: I tried both CD drives, because my bios is set to boot off CD first, although I don't know which CD drive it actually looks at first

I have a computer that has had XP installed on it for over one year with no
problems.A few days ago it exhibited an error message "Initiated by NT
Authority/System - Remote Call Service terminated unexpectedly" in 60 seconds it rebooted the computer. The process repeated itself whenever the computer was rebooted.I found news messages that others had had this experience when a certain virus was active in 2003 and concluded that somehow I had been infected. The Microsoft letters on the subject have not yielded anything that worked.( http://support.microsoft.com/kb/893086 for example)

Upon a normal reboot tonight, my XP Pro would not reboot. It hung on a screen immediately after the Windows XP scroll, it went to a blue screen with a "Windows XP" on it, where normally I see the WELCOME screen before Windows and the desktop appears. So the stall came at a SECOND Windows XP screen. After researching on the Net and talking to a couple of friends, and failing to get into Windows in Safe Mode (it stalled again at the same place), I started a Windows Repair reinstall.
