I have successfully completed a repair install but not all of the old user accounts are accessible using windows explorer. Two accounts plus the old administrator account show 'Access Denied'. I would like to retrieve the accounts' files and know the old passwords. I can't even delete them.
There are 4 accounts on the computer, all administrators. Of the 4, only one account has access to everything. The other 3 accounts all have Access Denied pop-ups when trying to open any file on the C: drive.
I tried rebooting in safe mode and logging in as administrator to see what the security settings where. After looking there I found out that all 4 accounts have full rights to all folders, sub folders, and files on the C: drive.
I am having concern spyaxe and seems to be going around a bit. I have tried to trouble shoot it myself but im just getting different error messages popping up and my home page has been hijacked.
I Recently offered to help my sister who dropped her monitor (CRT) off the table - while it was connected to the motherboard, causing damage to that.. So I just bought an upgrade pack (CPU, RAM, SATA HDD and the motherboard) Replaced and installed windows xp media centre edition SP3 on the new sata HDD, all works fine. All I want to do is grab the files (music and pictures) from the old IDE HDD which is sitting there and accessible save for the files under the user my sister had created. It displays a standard access is denied message. How can I open this up considering it is on the old installation of windows? (which will not boot due to hardware swap, it keeps looping).
I just tried to repair my windows XP Home with the XP CD in the drive and with a boot up - I got to "Windows XP Licensing agreement" "End User license agreement" "F8=I agree ESC=I do not agree PAGE DOWN= Next Page"When I press F8 nothing happens, when I press ESC nothing happens, When I press PAGE DOWN it works, but thats no help. Also if I just insert the XP Home CD (without a boot up later) and try a normal repair off the CD a message advises me as follows : "install Cd not recognized, your info on hard drive is a later version" OR something like that.So how can I repair XP home if it is not recognized when i already have SP1 and SP2 installed?
I have managed to repair the OS (XP Home) but am still experiencing one or two problems. The main one at the moment is that though it has downloaded and successfully installed 33 MS Critical Updates it is not able to install Service Pack 2. It gets about half way through installing SP2 and then brings up an "Access Denied" Error.
I checked the setup api and found access denied on HKCRvnd.ms.radio, I removed all instances of this, cause I saw another post with the same problem and that seem to work for them. I also had an access denied for
c:windowssoftwaredistributiondownload16b2c96a0c41f4dfdb4d3cc228a4f819u pdateupdate.inf so I gave it permissions for everything. Still seem to be having problems trying to install service pack 2. And looking at the setupapi still seems to give me the same error messages even though I made the changes.
I have a drive (D:) that I am trying to delete remnants of a corrupted OS (XP Prof) and am having a difficult time trying to eliminate 3 folders: a) My Documents; b) Recycler;c) System volume information. I have gone into Safe Mode, to take ownership of these folders but to no avail. I am logged on as Administrator, and have gone this route because in normal and safe modes, the message of "ACCESS DENIED" comes up. Need some direction.
so i am trying to install antares autotune vst v5.09 and every time i try it it comes up with this error message that at first says Error "Access is denied." Then when I click OK it comes up with another message which says Error "Access violation at address 004613B2 in module 'setup.exe.tmp.' Read of address 00000358"
Using XP sp2, trying to clear out some useless files on an external drive, no matter how many files I deleted it didn't make much change in space recovered then I checked the size of Windows Live One backup file,50 gig,(wow) that's 60% of the total drive space, while trying to delete it,I get the message "cannot delete DO_NOT_DELETE.mediaID: access denied" Make sure the disk is not full or write protected and that file is not currently in use.
When I D/Load some programmes I get access is denied. I had previouly reformatted my HD and now have drive F, when I try to access certain folders or /and executable programmes access is denied. Currently trying to install Roboform in Firefox
I did a terrible mistake today. Typically I install XP in C drive and keep My Documents folder in D drive. All of my hard disk drives (except the linux partitions) are NTFS. I encrypted the My Documents folder and all of its files and subfolders.Today I reinstalled XP in the C drive, after a quick format on it. I was unaware of the fact that what might be happened to My Documents folder. Now I can only view the files and folders inside My Documents folder. Neither I open any file, nor I decrypt those files. Windows is saying access denied.
Files on my second hard drive were shared on the network (level 4, Network users could only read) and primary hard drive was reformatted and Windows XP sp2 was installed.(without the files being unshared) Now when trying to access the files the error "Access Denied" occurs and I cant access or delete the files (would really like to recover the data about four years worth of work taking up about 75% of the hard drive)
I am the Admin, and I can't change any of the folders propertys as I again get the "access denied" error. I've been looking everywhere for a solution to this, this is what I found from MS help (not very helpfull) A file's permission may differ from the containing folder if one of the following conditions is true:
I'm having all sorts of problems with my computer (Windows Explorer shutting down, DVD drive not reading blank or used DVD+Rs correctly, etc). Tried to repair using SFC /Scannow but since it says that there are files that are missing or replaced by other files it asks for the SP2 CD- which I don't have since it was an automatic download.
1. Any way to remove SP2? It's not listed in the add/remove programs? 2. If I put in the SP1a CD, will it repair Windows to the SP1A setting WITHOUT causing me to lose all my data? 3. Are there problems with the updates from last week because all the problems started after the seven automatic downloads. 4. Can I download the SP2 somewhere online and run it to correct the problems?
I have xp sp2 installed with dual boot to Ubuntu on a toshiba a15-s127. I only have an SP1 disk. Can I use an XP Media center sp2 rollup to repair the MBR and then delete the ubuntu partition? I read the section on making an sp2 repair disk out of a sp1 disk but that seems like more work than reinstalling and updating the sp1 system.
I have XP Home edition with SP2 installed, but an SP1 CD.I recently had to perform a repair install from the CD after the system refused to start (following the help from another PC).The system now boots, but is very slow and just doesn't seem right.Checking the software version, I now have XP with SP1, but when I try to reapply SP2 the system tells me it has already been applied so won't reload it.My installation logs reflect the pre-repair situation, and I seem to have created some SP1/SP2 hybrid. Microsoft Update is telling me that I need to download a number of SP1 patches. Can I tell the system it is SP1 and then reload SP2? Or am I looking at a complete reinstall from scratch to get things straightened out?
Laptop hp pavillion zv5000 with win xp home, i don't have the the restore cd or win xp home, but i have win xp pro cd spk 2, can i use the xp pro cd to boot this machine in order to run the repair option, even this is a laptop runnning win xp home? The reason i want to run this is cause the computer is booting but before it reach the desktop is giving me a blue screen that i am not even to see the error cause it reboot inmmediatly so i want to run repair from the cd to see if this can fix the problem.
This started out as a bad NTOSKRNL.exe issue, eventually after using the boot dist to get me to the comand prompt (via boot disk) I tried using a chkdsk /r for this issue. It would go up to 80%. hti back to 50% and creep along and it almost took 2 hours for a partial (though not complete scan of the disk) normal chkdsk finds no errors odd.I cannot go through with the XP setup repair, because it goes to the above error. The harddrive light at the moment is almost steady on, though the 'read/write' noise is intermittent.I am trying to load thos CPU without f disking this but it seems like the little boy at the dyke analogy, one hole gets plugged and another opens up.
I reinstalled Windows with the backup feature provided with the backup (emachine). After I had updated windows completely & replaced my extensive collection of fonts I went to put all my personal files back. I get this message: Quote: "FOLDER LOCATION" is not accessible. Access is denied. It's the "C:Documents and SettingsOwner" folder
It has all my music, videos, photos, & work for things I do in it. I can get into my 'WINDOWS' folder and 'Program Files' but not that.
My computer started acting up. I ended up having to do a system recovery. When I did this though, it deleted all of my names (User accounts). In Windows Explorer I can still see them though, and even access the old files of that one.
Now, the main user account I used on this computer needed a password, so I assume that is why it is giving me an access denied message when I try to open it.
Is there any way I could be able to see these files? As I said, the accounts are erased from the main welcome page, so I wouldn't be able to click on it from there to type in a password.
I had to re-install Windows XP Sp2 and I'm having a problem with the mailboxes and other files in my Eudora directory. Eudora is receiving access denied to the mailboxes and I cannot rename, copy or move the email box files with Windows Explore. I get an "access denied" error.
I've tried using an app to remove controls from the files but it says they aren't being controlled by another program. And "properties" says they are NOT read-only.
i wanted to merge 2 partitions using partition magic 8. i igot the thing started but got an error 1552: frs entry is free
so i booted and the new partition was unaccessible (small hd icon with a question mark). i rebooted again and the partition was online but i couldnt access my data on it. i ran chkdsk /f, it corrected loads of errors but i still cant access my data. it says: "access is denied". i really cant afford to lose this data.
I am in the process of trying to repair the OS XP Home because of a corrupt file ( C:$ Secure ).If this does not work, and if I have to do a Restore, does this save the personal files and programs?
I have just started to have problems with my Acer T120E Aspire. When the pc is switched on it boots up as normal, showing the Windows XP home edition splash screen and goes to user accounts. When one is selected, it does'nt matter which one, it goes through the logging in procedure, showing the 'loading your personal settings' screen. However, after about ten seconds it goes blank the cpu fan cuts in and the computer restarts again.I decided to repair XP as I could'nt even log in under safe mode. I borrowed a disc as I have misplaced the original disc that was supplied.
Failed boot and inability to read the file system from a boot cd.
I did a chkdsk /r on the drive, and the file system is back. Ive also done a pass on the drive with a virus scanner and noticed a folder C:Program FilesCommon FilesServices" with the all of the files consisting of randomly generated executable names (514 in total), refer to attached text file for full list.
In explorer, the files show as green.
The problem is the virus scanner logs the file as "access denied".
The file initially had security permissions set to everyone with write only and the owner was some wierd clsid like object.
I have a Dell 4500 using Windows XP who's processor died. I removed the hard drive and attached it to my Dell 1150 via a IDE/USB adapter kit. It appears that everything is available. However, when I go to 'Documents and SettingsJustJeff206documents it states that it is not accessible and that Access is denied. Other files that are not under my directory can be accessed. I have run Chkdisk with no problems detected.
