I just tried installing Service Pack 2 on my XP, and I downloaded it and during installation it stops and simply says "Access Denied" in a little prompt, then says that installation has failed.
I have had Windows XP on my computer for 3 years, during that time I have had no problems with updates. A couple of days ago updates were running when I got the following message box. Service pack 3 setup. Access denied1! Microsoft will now un-install the current updates. At this point I was in a hurry to leave and shut off my computer thinking that when I started up again, the updates would resume their activity.......
when i try to update and download Office XP Service Pack 3, a screen pops up saying that the feature i wana use is on the Microsoft Office Standard CD rom...but i don't have the CD, the Office was preinstalled...now i can't finish the update because it will abort after there's no correct CD rom in the drive.
The Service pack starts out ok, then a little way into the process it says "cannot back up update. Access is denied": with options to retry, abort or ignore. The only real option is to ignore, and it carries on. About 5 mins later the whole process aborts saying sp 2 has not installed. press ok to undo what its done, and after its done that, it says windows has been partially updated, and may not work correctly
I own a SONY VAIO desktop PC, and I'm trying to install the XP Service Pack 2. However, whenever I try to, either when prompted by Windows Automatic Update or when I do it on Microsoft's website, the installation would always pause midway and return with an "Access is Denied" dialogue box. Microsoft's website had something regarding this issue --http://support.microsoft.com/kb/873148 -- but under Step 2, I couldn't find any specific registry key that resembled the one that was given Quote: The found entry in the Setupapi.log file should be similar to the following example: #-007 Deleting registry key HKCRvnd.ms.radio #E033 Error 5: Access is denied. This is what I see in the setupapi.log text file:
Code: #E008 Setting registry value HKLMSYSTEMCurrentControlSetServicesssdpsrv\DependOnService#E033 Error 5: Access is denied.#E065 Parsing AddReg section [Product.Add.Reg]......................
Decided to update my XP installation with the XP2 upgrade. Everything was sailing smoothly until the upgrade halted with an "Access Denied" message. Luckily it deinstalled and reloaded the original XP1 installation successfully - I don't see any problems! If I look at the current setupapi.log, I see several pages of #E197 errors towards the end of the update (the description says, "Writing "C:WINDOWSINF etwzc.inf" to "C:WINDOWSINF" is not an approved method of installing INF files. Use a 'CopyINF' entry instead". Then I see the following:
#-007 Deleting registry key HKCR.AudioCD #E033 Error 5: Access is denied. #E065 Parsing DelReg section [Product.Del.Reg] in "c:windowssoftwaredistributiondownload16b2c96a0c41f4dfdb4d3cc228a4f819 updateupdate.inf" failed. Error 5: Access is denied...............
I checked the setup api and found access denied on HKCRvnd.ms.radio, I removed all instances of this, cause I saw another post with the same problem and that seem to work for them. I also had an access denied for
c:windowssoftwaredistributiondownload16b2c96a0c41f4dfdb4d3cc228a4f819u pdateupdate.inf so I gave it permissions for everything. Still seem to be having problems trying to install service pack 2. And looking at the setupapi still seems to give me the same error messages even though I made the changes.
I finally decided to install the service pack 2. During the install I keep getting messages of the form: Service pack 2 could not back up registry key XXXXX to file c:windows$NtServicePackUninstall$ eg00013: Access is denied. Anyone knows what the problem might be? I located the directory and it does get removed when I cancel the update. I'm running as an administrator.
i just recently bought a new ipod and i need to install itunes but first I have to update my windows xp to service pack 2 or higher everytime I try i get the install halfway then the access denied message pops up. I tried the various solutions i found on google and its still doing it, I even d/led registry mechanic and clean and repair all my registry and its still doing access denied error.
I just bought the new GTA 4 and it apperently needs service pack 3, so i downloaded it from microsoft download center but in the middle of the install it stops and says access denied. It then continues to remove the service pack again and when it is almost done it said that it ways not removed corretly and that XP might not work optimatly.
When i try to update to service pack 2 I get an error that says Access denied and then stops the update. I used the windows knowledge base for help http://support.microsoft.com/kb/873148 I do what they say but I get to the point Where i reset the permission for Hkey_classes_rootDxDiagprovider But it gives me an error "You do not have permission to view the current permission settings for DxDiag.DxDiagprovider, but you can make permission changes." After that it comes to the permission editor but i am unable to make changes
I have a Dell 2350 Pentium4 1.8 gig Running WinXP Servicepack 1. When trying to install service pack2 thru automatic updates, the installation seems to be going fine. Then, while copying new files to the computer (after backing up and setting a restore point) I get a message that says "Generic host proces for Win32 Services encountered a problem and needs to close". The file copying continues in the backround. The standard message asks if I want to send the error to Microsoft. I send it and the file copying continues. After five more minutes copying files an error message pops up:"Access is denied". The system requires a click on "OK" and the old system is restored. I have tried to install several times with the same results.
I am about to download and install XP Service Pack 2. When I attempted to do this when SP2 first came out, my computer slowed almost to a standstill and I uninstalled it.
I haven't installed anything new recently except for windows updates. (College makes us install them.) Yesterday after a reboot, my system started acting strangely for no apparent reason. I have the following problems: System Restore opens to a blank page Help Center doesn't load at all windows won't minimize to the taskbar windows media player gives the error "can't perform operation, low memory" word gives the error "this document could not be registered. It will not be possible to create links from other documents to this document." Otherwise word functions properly.
copy/paste doesn't work dragging files/folders on the desktop and in windows explorer doesn't work When I try to view 'properties' of errors in the event log, nothing happens. I also noted that I started getting a lot of Event 4609 after these problems sprang up, when I hadn't been getting any previously. I also noted that my running processes are about 6 fewer than they were before I encountered this problem. Additionally, I am unable to start in safe mode. Pressing f8 produces no results. Everything else seems to work fine. So the system works, but is obviously in a crippled state, for no apparent reason. I'd rather not have to reinstall the os because I don't have a cd at the moment.
i'm having this problem with service pack 3 installation.i'm running windows xp home with service pack 2. A balloon just came up the other day wanting to install service pack 3. I should say it was an update balloon. I would let it begin installation but after about 20 min. I would get this service pack 3 setup error box.Service pack 3 installation did not complete.Select ok to undo the changes that have been made.I would let it undo the changes but everytime that i booted up i would get this update balloon. What do i do?
Running: XP Home w/ SP1 I've just reinstalled XP Home w/ SP1 on my computer. 1. Now I find conflicting information on updating to SP3. Please settle the issue for me: do I need to install SP1a, then SP2, then SP3, or just SP3? 2. Also, because I only have dialup Internet on this computer, I want to download the Service Pack(s) to a flashdrive on my friend's broadband computer and transfer it to my computer. At what site can I obtain the SP download without it automatically trying to install on my friend's computer?
I'm running the Home Edition Version 2002 and ever since I downloaded Service Pack 3, I have had nothing but BIG PROBLEMS. Is SP3 compatible with this version or should I still be useing SP2. I've slowed considerably, jumping, lagging, skipping.
I have read numerous articles pertaining to problems encountered after downloading SP4. If a computer is going to be used for home use only without multiple users, and only a printer, scanner and a DSL connection, should SP4 be installed? Are there any major benefits (or drawbacks) having SP4 installed? What is the best service pack to have installed for a home use computer?
I bought a PC back in 2002 and with it came Windows XP Home Edition Version 1.0 with NO SERVICE PACKS with a valid product key. I some how got a virus that erased my entire hard drive and now I'm trying to reload the OS but the CD seems to be damaged. I was told by a pc CE that since I bought the Windows XP product key back in 2002, I can ask someone who has the same OS version for a copy. Does anyone have 2002 WINDOWS XP HOME EDITION VERSION 1.0 WITH NO SERVICE PACKS that can make a copy and send me the CD? I will pay for the shipping and the CD copy.
I have tried several times to install XP SP3 on my DELL Inspiron 6000, XP SP2 and get and ?Access Denied? error. I understand that this occurs if one or more registry keys are restricted so that the software cannot alter them. I have retired installing SP3 after disabling both Zone Alarm and AVG antivirus programs w/o success. (do they need to be uninstalled?) I also understand that there is a way to reset registry and file permissions, but I am afraid that this would be beyond my comfort level. From the installation log, the first major logged failure is: 846.266: PruneCatalogsFromHotfixes:RegQueryValueEx Failed: 0x2 --- does this have any meaning. So far, these attempts have not changed the computers functionality, however, I am not able to make the restore function work.
I cannot install .NET Framework 1.1 (which I need for several programs). I've tried for weeks to find a fix, but can't. It says ACCESS IS DENIED, PLEASE VERIFY THAT YOU HAVE ACCESS TO THAT DIRECTORY.error 1304 error writing to file c:windowsmicrosoft.netframeworkv1.1.43221033vsavb7rtui.dll verify that you have access to that directory.I am running on admin, and I have Windows XP Home Edition.I've also tried to install .NET 2.0, but also got an error.
I am trying to install USB serial bus controllers so as to run Tata Photon+ modem, but it shows "Access Denied and Installation failed" message. I have Administrtor permissions.
Trying to do a 'repair' re-install of Windows XP Home Edition. I get through the loading of files and into the first installation window of Windows XP (after the 1st restart) and then get the system windows asking for [B]'The File ASMS on Windows XP Home Edition Service Pack 1 CD is needed. Type the path where the file is located and then click OK/B]'. The text in the path text box is 'GLOBALROOTDEVICECDROM0I386'. The ASMS file (directory) is in the 1st level directory of I386 on the CD. This is also a valid OEM CD with the Hologram. The system has two CD drives; one is a CD drive and the other is a DVD/CD RW drive. It seems it is not communicating with the drive properly.
I will be working away and all of sudden I will get a pop up that says" firefox has encountered a problem and needs to close." Why am I received this notice. I also get the same from Outlook express encountering a problem.I have winxp home edition/ service pack 2. Amd Athlon XP 2800+ and 2.07 GHz, 512 MV of Ram.

I just formated my PC two nights ago and I am still trying to get all the updates done. However, when I try to update to Service Pack 3, I get an error halfway through that says "Acces Is Denied", and then it starts to undo everything the Service Pack was updating. I have tried downloading the service pack file from microsoft, rebooting and turning off all anti-virus. ect. I have seen methods that tell me to reset the registry and file permissions. Is this safe? And also, has anyone else had this problem and fixed it.
