i just recently bought a new ipod and i need to install itunes but first I have to update my windows xp to service pack 2 or higher everytime I try i get the install halfway then the access denied message pops up. I tried the various solutions i found on google and its still doing it, I even d/led registry mechanic and clean and repair all my registry and its still doing access denied error.

I finally decided to install the service pack 2. During the install I keep getting messages of the form: Service pack 2 could not back up registry key
XXXXX to file c:windows$NtServicePackUninstall$ eg00013: Access is denied. Anyone knows what the problem might be? I located the directory and it does get removed when I cancel the update. I'm running as an administrator.
When i try to update to service pack 2 I get an error that says Access denied and then stops the update. I used the windows knowledge base for help http://support.microsoft.com/kb/873148 I do what they say but I get to the point Where i reset the permission for Hkey_classes_rootDxDiagprovider But it gives me an error "You do not have permission to view the current permission settings for DxDiag.DxDiagprovider, but you can make permission changes." After that it comes to the permission editor but i am unable to make changes

The only real option is to ignore, and it carries on. The only account on the system is mine that is an administrator account but i still get this error.
I have only one account on my Windows and it is the administrator account (mine because I'm the only one using the computer). The problem is when I make changes in msconfig, when I click on Apply, I get this message "An Access Denied error was returned while attempting to change a service.You may need to log on using an Administrator account to make the specified changes".I am the administrator and there is no other account than mine!

However, when I try to update to Service Pack 3, I get an error halfway through that says "Acces Is Denied", and then it starts to undo everything the Service Pack was updating. I have tried downloading the service pack file from microsoft, rebooting and turning off all anti-virus. ect. I have seen methods that tell me to reset the registry and file permissions. Is this safe? And also, has anyone else had this problem and fixed it.

I move them to a separate folder for safe keeping for about a week, then, if all is well, I delete them. I don't think I've deleted the IE7 SP, but I don't know what the SP number is.

After a recent Windows Update, the computer was completing the update installation before shutting down, when the surge protector was accidentally turned off before the computer was finished with the updates. Now, when the computer powers up, it goes to the Windows XP splash screen, flashes blue for a quick second and the computer reboots.
If we access the Boot Menu, the Safe Mode, Safe Mode with Networking, Safe Mode with Command Prompt, Enable VGA Mode, Last Known Good Configuration options all lead to the OS Choices menu, which gives "Windows XP Professional" and "Windows Recovery Console" options. Both options reboot the computer. Only the Disable Automatic Restart option doesn't reboot the computer, and it gives a BSOD with STOP error 0x00000024........

I understand that this occurs if one or more registry keys are restricted so that the software cannot alter them. I have retired installing SP3 after disabling both Zone Alarm and AVG antivirus programs w/o success. (do they need to be uninstalled?) I also understand that there is a way to reset registry and file permissions, but I am afraid that this would be beyond my comfort level. From the installation log, the first major logged failure is: 846.266: PruneCatalogsFromHotfixes:RegQueryValueEx Failed: 0x2 --- does this have any meaning. So far, these attempts have not changed the computers functionality, however, I am not able to make the restore function work.

Everything worked fine. Then victimized by tons of spyware/adware that required I do a complete system restore. Totally fine now. In trying recently to reinstall the Plus! software, I was prompted to download Movie Maker2 from the MS site. Then discovered that to do that I had to update to SP2. Not a problem, I'd done it before without a hitch. Only this time I receive an error message "Access is denied," and it uninstalls itself. What gives?

View 8 Replies View RelatedI seem to be having trouble with both of my PC's (dell dim 2400's with XP home) accessing the Windows Update site. I can never get on and get the usual page suggesting to try later or try downloading manually, which I can't do either. None of my System Restore points work (on either one)! Also, our DSL connection is working fine, as for as IE6 goes. (I can get Google, Yahoo, Bestbuy.com, ect.) I can't access the msn web-site either and Outlook Express 2003 hangs during the receiving part. I've tried Trend-Micro's Housecall and it cleaned several trojans, but I still have the same problems. I've never experienced this "Denial of Service" attacks.
