Anyone here having probs trying to install this latest update from Microsoft?I'm running Winxp home sp2.The update just sits in my system tray and when i tries to install it it fails.

My updates are set on notify and this update has downloaded but never installs and goes away. I have tried installing it many times but the yellow shield continues to pop back up saying it is there to be installed.
This is on a fully up to date XP SP2 OS system, with Avast and is Spyware clean as well, on an older generic clone 600mhz AMD K6-III with 384MB Ram and plenty of hard disk space. Although it is a little slow and methodical it has never caused me any problems
I'm scared to try and interpret for my own use. I have 81 processes running and have no idea which ones I can disable and which ones to not. I'm always nervous about messing with that. But, am I right in thinking that disabling something in the MSCONFIG thing at startup won't affect the program??? Can you still get to it? It just won't start up automatically, right? So, could I hurt anything if I disabled alot? So, how could I give you a list of all the processes running? I'm also having a problem with the xp update. I'm always showing that I need to update, but when I do this one part always fails. Here is what it says.
Security Update for Microsoft.net framework, Version 1.1 Service KB928366 didn't update. I'm not sure why, but it won't ever update. Also, in AOL I get an error message constantly which says this: A Runtime Error has occurred. Do you wish to debug. Line:? Error: Object Expected. I have no idea what that means and what or how to debug. I have tried repeatedly to uninstall and reinstall AOL but it keeps happening. Does anyone know what that means.
i just recently bought a new ipod and i need to install itunes but first I have to update my windows xp to service pack 2 or higher everytime I try i get the install halfway then the access denied message pops up. I tried the various solutions i found on google and its still doing it, I even d/led registry mechanic and clean and repair all my registry and its still doing access denied error.

View 5 Replies View RelatedI normally remove the updates/SPs from my Windows folder after a few days of running with the SP installed. All those packs can take up a ton of space. I move them to a separate folder for safe keeping for about a week, then, if all is well, I delete them. I don't think I've deleted the IE7 SP, but I don't know what the SP number is.

View 3 Replies View RelatedWe are running Windows XP Professional SP3 on an HP Pavilion D4100Y. After a recent Windows Update, the computer was completing the update installation before shutting down, when the surge protector was accidentally turned off before the computer was finished with the updates. Now, when the computer powers up, it goes to the Windows XP splash screen, flashes blue for a quick second and the computer reboots.
If we access the Boot Menu, the Safe Mode, Safe Mode with Networking, Safe Mode with Command Prompt, Enable VGA Mode, Last Known Good Configuration options all lead to the OS Choices menu, which gives "Windows XP Professional" and "Windows Recovery Console" options. Both options reboot the computer. Only the Disable Automatic Restart option doesn't reboot the computer, and it gives a BSOD with STOP error 0x00000024........
The title pretty much sums it up, I can't update to the new service pack, a window pops up and says "Access is denied". What do I do now?

1) Install any updates from microsoft either singularly or multiple...
2) Log into messenger.... keep getting error code 800706ba scoured the net for solution and tried most of them..(install-uninstall-cleard/deleted cache etc)
3)Some weird display characters/lines. on startup a lot of characters have been replaced with others....
4) Word documents start with a warning that document could not be registered
Im running zone alarm security suite v8.0.059.000 up to date Not sure if this helps but.... on my search for answers, I have found a number of issues my windows installer was not correctly installed (trying to sort out updates when I found this out) so is now fixed dcom server process launcher is missing presumed lost in Services.msc
XP Pro sp3. installed windows defender yesterday, but when i try to get update, i get that error..I did a forum search here, followed the instruction there in, but still cannot update defender. I can connect to the update site, and download updates, so i know its not a problem with connecting with the microsoft site.

Windows update tries to give me 10 updates now, and thy download okay but do not install successfully. I'm using AVAST! antivirus which seems to work very well. However, whenever I try to, either when prompted by Windows Automatic Update or when I do it on Microsoft's website, the installation would always pause midway and return with an "Access is Denied" dialogue box. I finally decided to install the service pack 2. During the install I keep getting messages of the form: Service pack 2 could not back up registry key
XXXXX to file c:windows$NtServicePackUninstall$ eg00013: Access is denied. Anyone knows what the problem might be? I located the directory and it does get removed when I cancel the update. I'm running as an administrator.
Once I installed sp3, I could not get past the windows loading screen, so I started in safemode and uninstalled sp3 that way. My question is, does uninstalling sp3 remove sp2 as well. I can not see sp2 under add/remove programs, but my windows update history says I downloaded sp2 last May.

However when I close the error message it keeps popping up every 20 seconds or so. When I went to microsofts website that told me that service pack 2 was installed on my pc. I have ran a full viral scan using the latest version of Panda and have also ran Reg-cure to see if the problem was in the registry but the error message still keeps popping up.
