I'm running the Home Edition Version 2002 and ever since I downloaded Service Pack 3, I have had nothing but BIG PROBLEMS. Is SP3 compatible with this version or should I still be useing SP2. I've slowed considerably, jumping, lagging, skipping.

I bought a PC back in 2002 and with it came Windows XP Home Edition Version 1.0 with NO SERVICE PACKS with a valid product key. I some how got a virus that erased my entire hard drive and now I'm trying to reload the OS but the CD seems to be damaged. I was told by a pc CE that since I bought the Windows XP product key back in 2002, I can ask someone who has the same OS version for a copy. Does anyone have 2002 WINDOWS XP HOME EDITION VERSION 1.0 WITH NO SERVICE PACKS that can make a copy and send me the CD? I will pay for the shipping and the CD copy.

I get through the loading of files and into the first installation window of Windows XP (after the 1st restart) and then get the system windows asking for [B]'The File ASMS on Windows XP Home Edition Service Pack 1 CD is needed. Type the path where the file is located and then click OK/B]'. The text in the path text box is 'GLOBALROOTDEVICECDROM0I386'. The ASMS file (directory) is in the 1st level directory of I386 on the CD. This is also a valid OEM CD with the Hologram. The system has two CD drives; one is a CD drive and the other is a DVD/CD RW drive. It seems it is not communicating with the drive properly.

I went to windows update page, and it said there was one critical update. View 11 Replies View RelatedI start up my computer, I get this message pop up: Fatal Execution Engine Error (0x7929f276) By accident, I went to my control panel and clicked on Administrative tools, and clicked on the Micrsoft.Net Framework 1.1 Configuration and got this same error message: Fatal Execution Engine Error (0x7929f276) so how do I get rid of it then? I went online and found out that I needed to go to my Add/Remove Programs and put a check mark next to the "Show Updates" which makes it show all of the Microsoft .Net Framework stuff. I did that, and managed to remove the Service Pack 3. BUT when I tried to remove all of the Service Pack 1 it said something like that "something is already in the process of installing, please wait till it gets done"

If so, I haven't heard anything, and Microsoft service packs usually generate a lot of media attention. I thought perhaps Microsoft would bundle SP3 with the upcoming Internet Explorer 7. If there is no SP3 on the horizon, I suppose Internet Explorer 7 will be released by itself.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI did a full HP system restore and the Computer guy who came to my house installed the Service Pack 3, the latest version. I used to have Service Pack 1. I have had quite a few problems since then because of the full system restore and having to re-install alot of my programs, etc. But anyway I noticed today, that down in my system tray (or whatever you call it) on the bottom right of my computer where all the little icons are, there is this Microsoft Updates Automatic Updater with the yellow shield and it said that an update ready to install so I tried installing it. And this is what it said:

What should I do? Do I have to get it all in sync somehow and is this messing up things on my computer? Also does this mean I am missing out on all the correct updates for my computer?
i kinda sux with computer stuff . 2 years ago i bought a pc with XP home edition.When its sent to my place the guy fix up everything for me which after that i realise that microsoft words , exel etc .. are in the system.A year later i have to reboot my pc and reinstall my Xp and i realised these words , exel and the others are not inside. i dunno wer to find and not sure whether it is included in the first place... if its not...then do you have any idea how can i upgrade from outlook to outlook express ?(without having to buy the whole microsoft office of course ) Can anyone help? thanks...love ya...

I tried going to start menu then clicking windows update but it comes up page not found. I have tried both IE and Firefox to go directly to microsoft's website to get service pack 3 and all the updates but it won't go to any microsoft website. It just comes up page not found. I have scanned for viruses and spyware with 2 scanners for each.
When trying to install SP2, it gets exactly halfway then it says access denied.
i have an icon from microsoft.saids it has updates to install for microsoft office, update service pack 3.the only thing is it won't update.and the icon won't go away until it gets updated .plus norton keeps giving me a box saids norton can't update feature.to uninstall norton than reinstall.now my son did up my whole computer so i am afraid to really touch anything.

The problem is that it seems at some point that some kind of update was interrupted during the process and the system will not load unless a windows xp professional edition disk is inserted to complete the update. I also cannot get it to start in safe mode. Unfortunately, I only have a home edition disk. Can I reformat XP pro with a home edition disk? If not, are there any other options?
