Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 Service Pack 1 - Updates Not Installed
Jul 25, 2010
I did a full HP system restore and the Computer guy who came to my house installed the Service Pack 3, the latest version. I used to have Service Pack 1. I have had quite a few problems since then because of the full system restore and having to re-install alot of my programs, etc. But anyway I noticed today, that down in my system tray (or whatever you call it) on the bottom right of my computer where all the little icons are, there is this Microsoft Updates Automatic Updater with the yellow shield and it said that an update ready to install so I tried installing it. And this is what it said:
Automatic Updates Some updates could not be installed The following updates were not installed: Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 Service Pack 1 and .NET Framework 3.5 Family Update for .NET versions 2.0 through 3.5 (KB951847) x86 ....SO- that seems like a conflict since my computer had Service Pack 3 and the Microsoft Updates is trying to install this Service Pack 1 thing. What should I do? Do I have to get it all in sync somehow and is this messing up things on my computer? Also does this mean I am missing out on all the correct updates for my computer?

I have MS XP HE SP3. Try as I may, I cannot install Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 Service Pack 1. I need this to install Paint.NET. I have MS Framework 2.0 installed, and this Update is directly from MS Updates. The only message I get after trying to install is: Installation was unsuccessful. I have tried ending any unnecessary Processes through Task Manager, but to no avail

I have had Windows XP on my computer for 3 years, during that time I have had no problems with updates. A couple of days ago updates were running when I got the following message box. Service pack 3 setup. Access denied1! Microsoft will now un-install the current updates. At this point I was in a hurry to leave and shut off my computer thinking that when I started up again, the updates would resume their activity.......

I just installed Windows XP Pro onto a band new drive. Installed the drivers and the antivirus. Next I went to get widows updates. I went to express because I was in a hurry. It installed service pack 2. Now it will not go into windows in any form. I have tried safe mode and regular mode. It gets to the XP loading screen in normal mode then reboots. In safe mode it runs through the list of files that it loads then reboots. Is my only way to reinstall windows?? Ihave had a fit to try to get into this machine. I hate to start from scratch again.

I start up my computer, I get this message pop up: Fatal Execution Engine Error (0x7929f276) By accident, I went to my control panel and clicked on Administrative tools, and clicked on the Micrsoft.Net Framework 1.1 Configuration and got this same error message: Fatal Execution Engine Error (0x7929f276) so how do I get rid of it then? I went online and found out that I needed to go to my Add/Remove Programs and put a check mark next to the "Show Updates" which makes it show all of the Microsoft .Net Framework stuff. I did that, and managed to remove the Service Pack 3. BUT when I tried to remove all of the Service Pack 1 it said something like that "something is already in the process of installing, please wait till it gets done"

Microsoft made any announcements about whether they will release a Service Pack 3 for Windows XP this year? If so, I haven't heard anything, and Microsoft service packs usually generate a lot of media attention. I thought perhaps Microsoft would bundle SP3 with the upcoming Internet Explorer 7. If there is no SP3 on the horizon, I suppose Internet Explorer 7 will be released by itself.

I went through Microsoft Update to get the latest updates for a PC that only has SP1 installed (and was missing 50 Critical Updates to boot). After I installed the 50 CUs the next time I logged into Microsoft Update I was prompted to download SP2. Everything went well until the Registry backup portion of the SP2 installation routine.
About 6 registry entries couldn't be backed up. I ignored them and tried to proceed but SP2 eventually came to a stop where my only option was to choose 'OK' and it began to undo whatever changes it had done.
I shut down every startup item using CodeStuff's Starter prior to this update. There is no AV running or anything else. Microsoft Update didn't work originally so I reregistered a couple of .dlls

I recently had to reinstall Windows XP Home Edition on my machine because I was complacent and did not keep up on my updates. As a result, my machine as riddled with worms, trojans, etc. So, I used a Win 98 boot disk and deleted the partition and installed a fresh XP. I ordered Service Pack 2 and installed that along with Norman Antivirus. However, I still need to get up to speed from SVC Pack2. Any suggestions on where I can find these updates so I can download them?I won't be using my machine as I don't want to risk it. In other words, that page where you go and your machine is scanned for applicable updates won't work because I'll be using someone else's machine. I was hoping someone would be able to tell me exactly where to go and I'll download them onto my jumpdrive.

The Service pack starts out ok, then a little way into the process it says "cannot back up update. Access is denied": with options to retry, abort or ignore. The only real option is to ignore, and it carries on. About 5 mins later the whole process aborts saying sp 2 has not installed. press ok to undo what its done, and after its done that, it says windows has been partially updated, and may not work correctly

A few ways you can determine what level of service pack you have installed: 1. Run WINVER. This will show the OS, the Service Pack and the actual service pack build number 2. WindowsKey+Break - Just the OS and Service Pack number 3. Control Panel / System - Same screen as #2. If you want to determine the service pack level of the files on a CD before you install it, there are a few options. One is to simply look on the CD itself. Another option is to simply look at the dates on the files: 1. The bulk of the XP files should be dated sometime around 2001 2. If you have SP1, there will be files dated around 8/2002 (or somewhere between #1 and #3 3. If you have SP2, there will be files dated around 8/2004.

owing to a BSOD and a corrupt 'C' drive etc (when nothing had changed!). I performed a reformat and clean install of XP(SP2) from my recovery CD. All went well and now starting again, installed drivers etc, and all high priority updates from MS site. Several restarts without problem. Left system running for a few hours, went back to it, brought it out of idle mode to find just the 'blue background', no menu or icons!, tried restart same problem. can get into 'safe mode' and all there, but will not complete that final phase of booting up.

my girlfriend had been adamant about not updating her computer because she claimed that is a way to get viruses.I scoffed and updated it anyway.I downloaded almost 2 years worth of updates over a two week period, the last update was the XP Service Pack 2 update. The very first time the computer was started after her SP2 update it loaded extremely slowly. The mouse doesn't work correctly (I can only right click) and most programs are inaccessible. I tried to System Restore (which is no easy task without a mouse) but it fails each time. I ran a virus scan with AVG but had no luck finding any infections.

This has happened on two computers: my wife's and my parents'. Automatic updating is turned on. My wife's computer suddenly lost Internet service upon reboot. I checked everything. She had access to the Linksys router, the network properties showed she was connected to the Internet and, most importantly, I, on another computer, was connected (my auto updates was turned off). I fixed the problem by going to the Device Manager, uninstalling the network card and then scanning for hardware changes. Bing! Working again. Two days later I'm at my parents' house. I turned on their computer, updates were installed and the system restarted. Again, no Internet service despite all apparent "go" connections. Uninstalled the network card, rebooted and it worked again.
I keep my updates off because NetFramework 2 wreaks havoc with a library program I have, so no NetFramework at all. And I've had no problems. I'm just wondering if anyone else has had similar problems? My wife had spent more than an hour on the phone with a tech support guy at Linksys and he had her setting up her notebook computer and changing its settings. When I got home, she was right in the middle of working with a computer that wasn't the problem. I guess this guy was paid by the hour because he was in no hurry to wrap everything up. But he told my wife that he works for several companies in tech support (real surprise there) and that MS "updates" create numerous "issues" I think they call them now.

I've been battling it out with a filth ridden computer for days, appear to be almost on top of it. It is completely clean of virii/malware/spyware I just installed SP2 on it, and since then it has been exceptionally slow to boot.Following the initial boot screen, the screen goes blank for over 2 minutes It then gets to the black screen with the grey progress bar along the bottom. It takes at least 5 minutes to get through this progress bar.

Ive only been using Xp for about 6 months now, and so far all had been ok. SP2 installed fine a while back, and I am up to-date with Microsoft auto updates. Yesterday I booted up and the system froze just after running the BIOS checks, it didnt reach as far as the OS system flicking in at all, I just had a black screen. Several reboots later, I decided to boot from the master setup disk which took me to a point where I selected R, for restore to an already installed OS.
I was then asked to type in the Administrator password - this I duly did as its the only one I have installed..... and it kept rejecting it. In the end I rebooted yet again, this time without the cd being the first boot option, and XP loaded as if there had been no problem at all. I've virus checked the system and run registry checks and can find nothing wrong at all.
