Blue Screen - Installed Service Pack 2
Jul 13, 2005
owing to a BSOD and a corrupt 'C' drive etc (when nothing had changed!). I performed a reformat and clean install of XP(SP2) from my recovery CD. All went well and now starting again, installed drivers etc, and all high priority updates from MS site. Several restarts without problem. Left system running for a few hours, went back to it, brought it out of idle mode to find just the 'blue background', no menu or icons!, tried restart same problem. can get into 'safe mode' and all there, but will not complete that final phase of booting up.

A few ways you can determine what level of service pack you have installed: 1. Run WINVER. This will show the OS, the Service Pack and the actual service pack build number 2. WindowsKey+Break - Just the OS and Service Pack number 3. Control Panel / System - Same screen as #2. If you want to determine the service pack level of the files on a CD before you install it, there are a few options. One is to simply look on the CD itself. Another option is to simply look at the dates on the files: 1. The bulk of the XP files should be dated sometime around 2001 2. If you have SP1, there will be files dated around 8/2002 (or somewhere between #1 and #3 3. If you have SP2, there will be files dated around 8/2004.

I did a full HP system restore and the Computer guy who came to my house installed the Service Pack 3, the latest version. I used to have Service Pack 1. I have had quite a few problems since then because of the full system restore and having to re-install alot of my programs, etc. But anyway I noticed today, that down in my system tray (or whatever you call it) on the bottom right of my computer where all the little icons are, there is this Microsoft Updates Automatic Updater with the yellow shield and it said that an update ready to install so I tried installing it. And this is what it said:
Automatic Updates Some updates could not be installed The following updates were not installed: Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 Service Pack 1 and .NET Framework 3.5 Family Update for .NET versions 2.0 through 3.5 (KB951847) x86 ....SO- that seems like a conflict since my computer had Service Pack 3 and the Microsoft Updates is trying to install this Service Pack 1 thing. What should I do? Do I have to get it all in sync somehow and is this messing up things on my computer? Also does this mean I am missing out on all the correct updates for my computer?

my girlfriend had been adamant about not updating her computer because she claimed that is a way to get viruses.I scoffed and updated it anyway.I downloaded almost 2 years worth of updates over a two week period, the last update was the XP Service Pack 2 update. The very first time the computer was started after her SP2 update it loaded extremely slowly. The mouse doesn't work correctly (I can only right click) and most programs are inaccessible. I tried to System Restore (which is no easy task without a mouse) but it fails each time. I ran a virus scan with AVG but had no luck finding any infections.

I've been battling it out with a filth ridden computer for days, appear to be almost on top of it. It is completely clean of virii/malware/spyware I just installed SP2 on it, and since then it has been exceptionally slow to boot.Following the initial boot screen, the screen goes blank for over 2 minutes It then gets to the black screen with the grey progress bar along the bottom. It takes at least 5 minutes to get through this progress bar.

I just recently was having some Internet Explorer problems so I uninstalled Windows Service Pack 2 and then reinstalled it, but now for some reason my MX510 (mouse) isn't working with Service Pack 2. The mouse is optical so I see the red light on when its booting up, but once it gets to the Windows XP Professional screen it shuts off. Right now I'm on Service Pack 1.

Once I installed sp3, I could not get past the windows loading screen, so I started in safemode and uninstalled sp3 that way. My question is, does uninstalling sp3 remove sp2 as well. I can not see sp2 under add/remove programs, but my windows update history says I downloaded sp2 last May.

I have had Windows XP on my computer for 3 years, during that time I have had no problems with updates. A couple of days ago updates were running when I got the following message box. Service pack 3 setup. Access denied1! Microsoft will now un-install the current updates. At this point I was in a hurry to leave and shut off my computer thinking that when I started up again, the updates would resume their activity.......

Not sure how much info you need, so I'll start at the beginnig.I'm trying to install my DSL service, but everytime I got to account setup, a technical error popped up and told me to try again later.I tried downloading internet explorer, but it only works when I'm using a separate internet provider (aol).Aside from me not being able to log on with my dsl, everything was fine.I also tried downloading the updates for my computer, but my explorer froze, so I restarted. This brings me to my biggest problem:After I restarted my computer, when my desktop was loading, a blue screen popped up that said physical memory dump.Remove all newly added hardware, and delete newly added software.Try restarting your computer, if this screen appears again, run system diagnostics utility supported by your hardwear manufacturer.Run memory check.0x00000000,0x00000000,0x00000000,0x00000000

I'm having a somewhat-recurring issue wherein I'll play a PopCap or SOE Game and be interrupted by the dreaded BSOD. When I go into my event viewer and look at the only red-exclamation-point item I can, I see the following (two items, both appear in the log at exactly the same time. In this case, the game was Free Realms. As you'll note from the error, it appears to be related to the Windows Search Service. I've attached the minidump to this link, for those of you uber-XP-experts that can understand it. Also, I keep this PC maintained pretty well. I run anti-malware software on a regular basis, use ClamWin for my antivirus, and avoid iffy-websites.

I have been getting the blue screen of death on my Dell Inspiron 600m running Windows XP Home Edition Version 2002 SP2 w/ Intel Pentium M processor 1600 MHz 299 MHz, 1 GB of Ram (only hardware not factory - installed recently). I was given this laptop as a Christmas gift as the donor received a new one on boxing day It was given to me with this error and I suspect it is from the new(er) memory installed but cannot be certain as I have no references to go on. I had enough of this reoccurring error very quickly so I reinstalled the OS clean and fully updated the system with Microsoft updates including SP2, the computer also has quite a bit of expensive software I installed and is virus free according to trend micro IS PC-cillin 2007.The memory that came out of this unit is in with the laptop bag stored in the new memory packaging, the new memory is: Times Two(2) units = KTD - INSP8200/512 (512MB Memory Module) Equiv. Dell(R) P/N: 311 - 1356 (Sodimm DDR Inspiron) whatever that means! The old memory that was removed says: Again Times Two (2) units = Infineon HYS64D32020GDL-7-B 32M x 64 SDRAM - B2V40212332G - PC21000S-2033-0-A1 - 256MB,DDR,266,CL2

I know this seems like I lot to read, but bear with me please, it needs explaining (or at least I think so.)in all seriousness, here's the situation: I'm running Windows XP SP2 on a Dell Dimension 3000. Prior to this problem, I had been getting blue screened rather frequently with some page about a DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL error (or something along those lines). It told me that I should uninstall any new software/hardware to resolve the problem, and something about sysaudio.sys and another audio-related file at the bottom. I can't remember exactly, I haven't had the problem for a couple days now. Below that, it said "Beginning dump of physical memory to disk" with a timer counting up, as most blue screens do. I just ignored this screen any time I ran into it and rebooted, seeing as I hadn't installed any new hardware or software that I could think of.

when I try to boot up my computer I get a blue screen right after the windows is loaded. It just flicks up for a second so I cannot see what it says. It does same with safe mode.I'm not sure, but I think it is caused by display driver I tryied to install. I got a nVidia 8600GT-m card, and nVidia doesn't provide official driver for it, it must come from the vendor or I need to use modified driver. The driver that came from the vendor didn't support some of the openGL functions and gave error when I tried to run stuff on higher resolution

I was attempting to get the flash player to work and did all kind of things. But before I started, I created a restore point and exported the registry. The last thing I recall doing was a manual install of the latest flash player. Seems like it hung up and after a few minutes I turned off the PC by holding in on the power button. When I power up the PC it would get to the blue screen with the windows XP logo screen and then hang.Normally it took me to a screen showing the various users on the PC.I have rebooted in the safe mode and it gets to the same screen and hangs up.

Have a new HP laptop which had Windows 7 pre-installed. I couldn't get on with it so I tried installing XP but all I got was the "Blue Screen of Death" telling me that Windows had detected an error and had shut down. I tried again with the same result so I tried installing Linux (Ubuntu). This went on fine and so I tried XP again. Still the blue screen of death. XP will not install and I would be grateful for any help anyone can give to an oldie.

1) I have seen this problem posted on another forum in the past, but the thread never led to a solution.2) This problem has occurred with both a EIDE hard drive and a USB camera. I have also seen reports of it happening with other drives.
(NOTE: the items I am referring to use native WIN XP drivers; I have posted this problem on other forums and the first responder always tells me to go to the manufactrer's site to download the latest drivers.)3) The problem: every time I reboot, the Hardware installation wizard reports the following: "The specified service does not exist as an installed service."4) Once this dialog box is closed, the yellow warning diamond appears nect to the device in hardware manager, and the driver "disk.sys" is NOT installed, although "partmgr.sys" is.
