Service Pack Is Not Downloaded

Nov 19, 2008

I recently took the liberty of downloading a trojan. Having been gifted with the ability of NOT knowing that much about computers, I decided to just format the harddrive and start over. Seemed simple enough. Apparently when I reloaded XP from the cd that came with the laptop (Pavilion zd8000) I screwed the pooch. I think I went through the repair console. It never asked me to punch in the registration code. Now, everytime I boot, it goes to a black screen with white lines across the bottom the fill in slowly as though it is running a scan disc on bootup. It literally takes about twenty minutes to boot! I went out and did the microsoft updates, and it grabbed everything but service pack 3.

Service Pack 3 Cant Be Downloaded - Laptop Freezes

Jan 3, 2009

I had Windows Live Update on, and it was downloading and installing Service Pack 3.

But almost at the end, the download got cut off on its own, even though my internet connection was still on, and the laptop froze. So i restarted it, and although now it says i have service pack 3, i seem to be having problems.

It doesn't install itself on startup, it only tries to installs, then it says i have an error somewhere.

I tried downloading it manually from both microsoft.com and from another website, it's a 316MB file, using Download Accelerator Plus. Both time it would reach to the end, tells me its 100%, but keeps downloading as if nothing happened. I end up reading: "325MB of 316MB" and stuff like that.

Service Pack 2 Downloaded - Lost Task Bar And Icons

Aug 12, 2005

Every time I download service pack 2 I lose my task bar and icons. Internet explorer will not start. I tried to download off the computer and finally sent for disk. Nothing seems to work. I have a 64 bit computer but my XP home is a 32 bit. I tried to turn off all firewalls and Norton and nothing seems to work. Thinking of saving all files and starting over(re download XP). The only way I get everything back is to restore to the earlier time

Determining The Installed Service Pack

Mar 23, 2005

A few ways you can determine what level of service pack you have installed: 1. Run WINVER. This will show the OS, the Service Pack and the actual service pack build number 2. WindowsKey+Break - Just the OS and Service Pack number 3. Control Panel / System - Same screen as #2. If you want to determine the service pack level of the files on a CD before you install it, there are a few options. One is to simply look on the CD itself. Another option is to simply look at the dates on the files: 1. The bulk of the XP files should be dated sometime around 2001 2. If you have SP1, there will be files dated around 8/2002 (or somewhere between #1 and #3 3. If you have SP2, there will be files dated around 8/2004.

Blue Screen - Installed Service Pack 2

Jul 13, 2005

owing to a BSOD and a corrupt 'C' drive etc (when nothing had changed!). I performed a reformat and clean install of XP(SP2) from my recovery CD. All went well and now starting again, installed drivers etc, and all high priority updates from MS site. Several restarts without problem. Left system running for a few hours, went back to it, brought it out of idle mode to find just the 'blue background', no menu or icons!, tried restart same problem. can get into 'safe mode' and all there, but will not complete that final phase of booting up.

Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 Service Pack 1 - Updates Not Installed

Jul 25, 2010

I did a full HP system restore and the Computer guy who came to my house installed the Service Pack 3, the latest version. I used to have Service Pack 1. I have had quite a few problems since then because of the full system restore and having to re-install alot of my programs, etc. But anyway I noticed today, that down in my system tray (or whatever you call it) on the bottom right of my computer where all the little icons are, there is this Microsoft Updates Automatic Updater with the yellow shield and it said that an update ready to install so I tried installing it. And this is what it said:

Automatic Updates Some updates could not be installed The following updates were not installed: Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 Service Pack 1 and .NET Framework 3.5 Family Update for .NET versions 2.0 through 3.5 (KB951847) x86 ....SO- that seems like a conflict since my computer had Service Pack 3 and the Microsoft Updates is trying to install this Service Pack 1 thing. What should I do? Do I have to get it all in sync somehow and is this messing up things on my computer? Also does this mean I am missing out on all the correct updates for my computer?

Installed Service Pack 2 / System Working Very Slow?

Mar 22, 2007

my girlfriend had been adamant about not updating her computer because she claimed that is a way to get viruses.I scoffed and updated it anyway.I downloaded almost 2 years worth of updates over a two week period, the last update was the XP Service Pack 2 update. The very first time the computer was started after her SP2 update it loaded extremely slowly. The mouse doesn't work correctly (I can only right click) and most programs are inaccessible. I tried to System Restore (which is no easy task without a mouse) but it fails each time. I ran a virus scan with AVG but had no luck finding any infections.

Jun 11, 2005

I've been battling it out with a filth ridden computer for days, appear to be almost on top of it. It is completely clean of virii/malware/spyware I just installed SP2 on it, and since then it has been exceptionally slow to boot.Following the initial boot screen, the screen goes blank for over 2 minutes It then gets to the black screen with the grey progress bar along the bottom. It takes at least 5 minutes to get through this progress bar.

The Specified Service Don't Exist As Installed Service

Jan 29, 2004

1) I have seen this problem posted on another forum in the past, but the thread never led to a solution.2) This problem has occurred with both a EIDE hard drive and a USB camera. I have also seen reports of it happening with other drives.
(NOTE: the items I am referring to use native WIN XP drivers; I have posted this problem on other forums and the first responder always tells me to go to the manufactrer's site to download the latest drivers.)3) The problem: every time I reboot, the Hardware installation wizard reports the following: "The specified service does not exist as an installed service."4) Once this dialog box is closed, the yellow warning diamond appears nect to the device in hardware manager, and the driver "disk.sys" is NOT installed, although "partmgr.sys" is.
