I currently have XP SP3 V.3300 installed on my computer. My audio driver seems to be having problems with SP3 for some reason (*which I found from a bit of searching around on the internet). Consequently, I have been trying to uninstall it to re-install SP2, but I cant find the file to uninstall under add/remove.
View 1 RepliesIt all started a few weeks ago when I could not move a folder to the recycle bin because it "could not find it". This week i did somehow get it to move there, but when i tried to delete it for good I got the same error. So i used Tune-Up Utilities 2008 in an attempt to get rid of it. The folder is gone, but the error remains. I think the bin is not working properly anymore either. I moved some folders of music to the recycle bin but they weren't there yet rar files i had deleted were. I have tried many many different commands, and a "restore recycle bin" registry edit, and safe mode.

When I tried to install it, it hangs at 39 minutes and gives me the error:An error has been encountered that prevents Setup from continuing.Setup failed to install the product catalogs. This is a fatal error. The setup log files should contain more information. I kind of left it alone for a while and since then want to install Windows XP Pro. I tried to insert the Pro cd, but it wouldn't continue installation since it prepared installation from the Home cd. I've created boot disks with fdisk and format in order to just wipe the drives. However, the computer will not open the disk. I hear that it reads it but then doesn't load anything. I've used this same kind of disk for another PC and it works fine. I know the floppy drive on this pc works because when I tried to install Raid drivers previously, it read it.
View 7 Replies View RelatedMy sister's laptop, (Windows XP) is freezing up and having a lot of trouble accessing the internet. She thinks it's from an e-mail that she downloaded a screen saver from. It has to do with a web page called freeze.com, 3D Dolphins screen saver, desktop weather and a couple of other things that all downloaded at the same time.She has to go to Control, Alt, Delete to try to get the laptop to shut down and then has to click on "End Now" several times. I will attach a picture of the list.Also, when she goes to "Add & Remove", it won't let her uninstall the desktop weather and another one called When U Save.

View 2 Replies View RelatedAm Running Windows XP home with SP2 on a P4 machine,everything running smoothly except that I tried to uninstall a program through the control panel-add/remove route and even though most programs are listed there, only a few of them like 5 out of 40 odd have the change/remove button when the particular program name is clicked. It just shows size, used frequency and last used on, I cannot uninstall those programs incl. the officeXP package. I am absolutely sure all this was possible few days back and tried to get my system back to a 7-8 day restore point but this does not help as well

I noticed that after it supposedly uninstalled from the a or r file the shortcut was still listed on my desktop. So I searched for F W and found a few references that popped up after my search. This is only SOME exe's. Particularly, older programs. Word, excel, WordPerfect all work. Older apps don't.

Last week I posted a question to this forum regarding the trouble I was having uninstalling Explorer Beta 2 (you can't install Beta 3 until you UNINSTALL beta 2). I got some very good suggestions -- system restore, trying REinstalling beta 2, etc. but none of them worked. Beta 2 won't reinstall unless you uninstall, restoring back to earlier times resurrected other demons and glitches I had solved, etc. What I believed happened is part of my overzealous file maintenance. I usually delete all those windows update Uninstall files that clutter up the Windows directory. Who knew that one of them was probably the uninstall file for Explorer Beta 2?
View 7 Replies View RelatedAm attempting to delete three old zip/unzip driver folders so I can install updated versions of the drivers, but every time I go to delete, a warning pops-up stating ...."nothing to do"......, then it slowly (crawls, actually) begins, stating..... "deleting from archive". The files are full, so there's obvious data that needs to be removed despite the warning that there's nothing to do. At the speed this thing is deleting, if at all, it will take days. My question is, why can't I do a conventional uninstall/deletion the way most files are deleted, and why is it requiring so much time? (FYI, once this process starts, the only way to stop it is to do a CTRL-ALT-DELETE- just canceling doesn't do a thing), I have to remove thes drivers before installing the new versions. Is there another method of removing these files

View 1 Replies View Relatedmy XP install started acting up and whenever it loaded the XP boot screen, my HDD light stayed on, and after a couple of minutes, my computer restarted itself. To find the problem, I started XP in safe mode, and it went to load up till a file mup.sys(?), can't remember. I re-plugged my SATA cable (I have a Samsung SpinPoint 160GB on a MSI P965 Neo-F running a Core 2 Duo E6600 at stock clocks), switched the cable, and checked that my mobo's bios was emulating the RAID device on IDE. The thing is, every other OS finds my HDD (even Win 2000!): Linux, Vista, Mac OS-X (I was desperate). I'm running openSUSE 10.2 right now, and I desperately need Windows back! My dad won't let me install Vista yet.
