im using the winnt32.exe to reinstall windows xp file and it pops up with the error that it cant run it because there is a newer os installed on it
so i uninstalled xp sp3 and i looked to see what version i had then and found out it is sp2 so i then tried to uninstall sp2 but i cant find anything in the add remove box to uninstall it its blank
i am using xp pro with a Labtec wireless keyboard & mouse and the scroll wheel has broken in the mouse so i have bought a usb wireless mouse. The existing keyboard/mouse connects with a black square receiver box of which then has 2 leads so it can be plugged into the mouse & keyboard port at the rear of the pc.
I have plugged in the new usb wireless mouse ok but the system still works with the old broken mouse. In the mouse settings box both mice are listed but is it possible to dissable the broken mouse so the new mouse will work,there is no option to dissable the mouse on the screen like there is for the new usb wireless mouse. Failing that how can i uninstall the complete keyboard/mouse as the only listing in add/remove programs is the labtec wireless desktop of which is just somekind of add on software as with this removed the keyboard/mouse still works.
I been trying to uninstall mcafee because i just got Norton because i heard is better and it is interfiring w/ norton and mcafee don't have a uninstall nor is in ADD/REMOVE.

This is a fatal error. The setup log files should contain more information. I kind of left it alone for a while and since then want to install Windows XP Pro. I tried to insert the Pro cd, but it wouldn't continue installation since it prepared installation from the Home cd. I've created boot disks with fdisk and format in order to just wipe the drives. However, the computer will not open the disk. I hear that it reads it but then doesn't load anything. I've used this same kind of disk for another PC and it works fine. I know the floppy drive on this pc works because when I tried to install Raid drivers previously, it read it.

It has to do with a web page called freeze.com, 3D Dolphins screen saver, desktop weather and a couple of other things that all downloaded at the same time.She has to go to Control, Alt, Delete to try to get the laptop to shut down and then has to click on "End Now" several times. I tried to look in the Accesories/Entertaiment/ folder for the Movie Maker, but it's not there. I went to add/remove windows components, but there is no option to add movie maker. I thought I did not have the software so I went to the xp windows microsoft downloads and look for the movie maker. I tried to down load the package that brings this software but it run and applation to check if I required the download, but it was already installed. So it looks like that it's already installed, but I don't know how to acces it.

However, browsing through, (is it still windows explorer?), I saw that the folder is still there and full of goodies. Can I just delete the entire main folder? I get nervous in and around there since something is always sharing something from somewhere else.

This HDD had 2 partition on it (from a previous XP install on another PC) so I used the XP install CD to basically remove it and create a single partition on it (that's the only way I knew how to do it).However, while doing that, it ended up creating a dual boot config so that now, when I start my PC, I have to chose which OS to start:1) The regular XP install2) The one that never got installed on the new HDD since I only partitionned it.?
I just acquired a used toshiba M45. Windows XP-home. In attempts to "clean" the drive, I encountered the problem with no "change/remove" button option in control panel. I followed the advice found here to change values in the registry as outlined at . The problem is that when I get to the final branch of uninstall in the registry, there are no programs listed there to change the value. I can't find any solution here, or with mr. google.
View 8 Replies View RelatedAm Running Windows XP home with SP2 on a P4 machine,everything running smoothly except that I tried to uninstall a program through the control panel-add/remove route and even though most programs are listed there, only a few of them like 5 out of 40 odd have the change/remove button when the particular program name is clicked. It just shows size, used frequency and last used on, I cannot uninstall those programs incl. the officeXP package. I am absolutely sure all this was possible few days back and tried to get my system back to a 7-8 day restore point but this does not help as well

I use Windows XP SP2. Recently noticed that when I left-click on any of the icons of the Hard-disk drives and/or Devices with Removable Storage within 'My Computer', the 'Search' Option opens up by default instead of the 'Open' option, like in other folders. Likewise, when I right-click on the said icons, the 'Search' option is topmost & the 'Open' option has been relegated to second position. I would like the Search option to come first. Can't remember whether this was so from before or changed recently.

we had to remove Visual Studio 2005...when uninstalling VS it tells you to unistall portions in order...we did that and now nothing is listed in Add/Remove Programs relating to VS at all...however, in the start menu there is MS SQL Server 2005 configuration tools...when you reboot windows xp you get an error saying SQL Server could not start...well, we don't want SQL Server 2005 on there and are trying to remove it but it is not listed in Add/Remove at all...can't find anything relating to this at all.how do we remove SQL Server 2005 configuration tools?

When it loaded up I noticed that everything is taking 2x as long to load and it is taking long time to even get the start button list up. I was able to get into the add/remove program list but nothing was there. There is no Change/Remove button in Add/Remove Programs but the program is there, 150 MB, and the file suggested on the HP website for uninstalling older printers from XP produces a message that it's "unsupported" can't remember exact verbiage, been a while since last tried. Even reinstalled in the hopes that a message would come up to the effect "this program is already installed, do you want install to remove it prior to completing this install," but it just installs the printer again with a number after it ... The missing programs aren't listed in the Uninstall registry key and I'm confident there are not viruses on the machine.
