I been trying to uninstall mcafee because i just got Norton because i heard is better and it is interfiring w/ norton and mcafee don't have a uninstall nor is in ADD/REMOVE.

When it loaded up I noticed that everything is taking 2x as long to load and it is taking long time to even get the start button list up. I was able to get into the add/remove program list but nothing was there. I waited for about 10 minutes and then nothing still, I don't know any other way to remove McAfee, how to remove McAfee, add/remove program list won't work here.

When I go to add remove programs and try to remove it, it won't let me because it says I have a component missing or not installed right. Mcafee runs out tomorrow and want to use the one AOL has. How do I go about getting this program out. The one aol has won't work as long as mcafee is installed. When I tried to install it, it hangs at 39 minutes and gives me the error:An error has been encountered that prevents Setup from continuing.Setup failed to install the product catalogs. This is a fatal error. The setup log files should contain more information. I kind of left it alone for a while and since then want to install Windows XP Pro. I tried to insert the Pro cd, but it wouldn't continue installation since it prepared installation from the Home cd. I've created boot disks with fdisk and format in order to just wipe the drives. However, the computer will not open the disk. I hear that it reads it but then doesn't load anything. I've used this same kind of disk for another PC and it works fine. I know the floppy drive on this pc works because when I tried to install Raid drivers previously, it read it.
View 7 Replies View RelatedMy sister's laptop, (Windows XP) is freezing up and having a lot of trouble accessing the internet. She thinks it's from an e-mail that she downloaded a screen saver from. It has to do with a web page called freeze.com, 3D Dolphins screen saver, desktop weather and a couple of other things that all downloaded at the same time.She has to go to Control, Alt, Delete to try to get the laptop to shut down and then has to click on "End Now" several times. I will attach a picture of the list.Also, when she goes to "Add & Remove", it won't let her uninstall the desktop weather and another one called When U Save.

View 2 Replies View RelatedAm Running Windows XP home with SP2 on a P4 machine,everything running smoothly except that I tried to uninstall a program through the control panel-add/remove route and even though most programs are listed there, only a few of them like 5 out of 40 odd have the change/remove button when the particular program name is clicked. It just shows size, used frequency and last used on, I cannot uninstall those programs incl. the officeXP package. I am absolutely sure all this was possible few days back and tried to get my system back to a 7-8 day restore point but this does not help as well

we had to remove Visual Studio 2005...when uninstalling VS it tells you to unistall portions in order...we did that and now nothing is listed in Add/Remove Programs relating to VS at all...however, in the start menu there is MS SQL Server 2005 configuration tools...when you reboot windows xp you get an error saying SQL Server could not start...well, we don't want SQL Server 2005 on there and are trying to remove it but it is not listed in Add/Remove at all...can't find anything relating to this at all.how do we remove SQL Server 2005 configuration tools?

When I attempt to uninstall a program, the corresponding programs "uninstaller", asks for a network resource. Here is an example screen shot of what I am seeing when I attempt to uninstall Ad Aware: It doesn't seem to matter what I am attempting to uninstall. She has Windows XP and its firewall is switched on. When she tried to delete it at 'Install /uninstall programs' it froze the computer. I suggested she start in safe mode and try. Here is her reply to me this morning: You won't believe this, but I have just spent the last 2 hours trying to get rid of mcafee. In safe mode you can remove all but the personal firewall. In normal mode it froze when I tried to remove it. In the windows security section it tells me mcafee personal firewall is on and you can't switch it off there....and under "add/remove programs" it doesn't appear, yet it is still running and still giving constant error messages.

I am using McAfee Anti-Virus and just got a renewal notice for $69.98 for two years.
My question is should I renew - or is there someother anti-virus program that is better? What about AVG which is free - is that one reliable?
Any other programs that I should check into?

What is bizarre is when I manualy try to browse to the content.IE5 folder it is not under Temporary Internet Files. However there is a Content.IE5 folder under Temp.
View 6 Replies View RelatedAfter the most recent updates to McAfee Security Centre, I have been unable to locate the part of this security package where cookies where listed ie. there was a list of sites from which cookies were allowed or blocked.It was available through the Advanced menu of the Internet Section but it is not there anymore.Prior to this update, I was prompted whenever I went into a new website if I wanted to allow or block cookies.If I wanted to change this at a later date, I could go into the cookie blocking section of McAfee and change it to either block or allow and there were two separate lists of the allow cookies sites, or the block cookies sites.I understand I can adjust cookie blocking via Internet Explorer but this McAfee function let me choose as I entered individual sites.I have been in contact with 3 McAfee technicians who dont seem to know what I am asking and my Security Centre has been scanned via the McAfee tool and there are no faults in it.
