I have a Dell Inspiron 6400 less than a year old. It came installed with McAfee. When the subscription ended I removed it and installed AVG. Apparently the add/remove programme has not removed McAfee completely and it is now conflicting with AVG giving me start up freezing.

When it loaded up I noticed that everything is taking 2x as long to load and it is taking long time to even get the start button list up. I was able to get into the add/remove program list but nothing was there. I waited for about 10 minutes and then nothing still, I don't know any other way to remove McAfee, how to remove McAfee, add/remove program list won't work here.

When I go to add remove programs and try to remove it, it won't let me because it says I have a component missing or not installed right. Mcafee runs out tomorrow and want to use the one AOL has. How do I go about getting this program out. The one aol has won't work as long as mcafee is installed. However, browsing through, (is it still windows explorer?), I saw that the folder is still there and full of goodies. Can I just delete the entire main folder? I get nervous in and around there since something is always sharing something from somewhere else.

View 9 Replies View RelatedIndex.dat files are files impossible to delete under windows, and it stores all the information of your surfing history, you can be followed through these dangerous files. and even if you delete your cookies and your history, these index.dat files remain there and become bigger and bigger, their original size is 16kb but they can reach up until 600kb. to preserve your privacy I found a way to delete them.. it's impossible to do in windows thus you have to reboot your computer then press F8 or F5 for advanced boot options; then choose "safe mode with command prompt; log in as administrator and then from there you can delete them freely without windows preventing it.

When I boot up and go into task manager my CPU is going like crazy at around 90% for about 5 minutes it finally boots up at around 7 minutes.I'm on windows xp home SP3, 80gb HDD, Intel Pentium Dual Core 1.73 ghz and my laptop is only 6 months old.Does anyone know a good programme to speed things up?

Can't access the internet.I get a "Page_Fault_In_NONPAGED_AREA" The CD that Stinger is on is bootable, but that doesn't help. I am going to try putting an Autoexec.bat file on it.

She has Windows XP and its firewall is switched on. When she tried to delete it at 'Install /uninstall programs' it froze the computer. I suggested she start in safe mode and try. Here is her reply to me this morning: You won't believe this, but I have just spent the last 2 hours trying to get rid of mcafee. In safe mode you can remove all but the personal firewall. In normal mode it froze when I tried to remove it. In the windows security section it tells me mcafee personal firewall is on and you can't switch it off there....and under "add/remove programs" it doesn't appear, yet it is still running and still giving constant error messages.

What is bizarre is when I manualy try to browse to the content.IE5 folder it is not under Temporary Internet Files. However there is a Content.IE5 folder under Temp.
View 6 Replies View RelatedAfter the most recent updates to McAfee Security Centre, I have been unable to locate the part of this security package where cookies where listed ie. there was a list of sites from which cookies were allowed or blocked.It was available through the Advanced menu of the Internet Section but it is not there anymore.Prior to this update, I was prompted whenever I went into a new website if I wanted to allow or block cookies.If I wanted to change this at a later date, I could go into the cookie blocking section of McAfee and change it to either block or allow and there were two separate lists of the allow cookies sites, or the block cookies sites.I understand I can adjust cookie blocking via Internet Explorer but this McAfee function let me choose as I entered individual sites.I have been in contact with 3 McAfee technicians who dont seem to know what I am asking and my Security Centre has been scanned via the McAfee tool and there are no faults in it.

Whenever I try to open IE, it will open about 50 times. I cannot access my internet at all. I can log onto messanger and anything else but IE.
