I have windows XP media edition on a Gateway 510XL 3.2 mhz machine. My AVG was expiring so I decided to try another program. I got McAfee security suite and installed it on my system. I had problems on the install (conflict with ad-aware plus) and tried to reinstall. Before reinstall I picked up a bug that automatically resets my home page to http://www.new114.com.cn:8080/ every time I reboot.

After the most recent updates to McAfee Security Centre, I have been unable to locate the part of this security package where cookies where listed ie. there was a list of sites from which cookies were allowed or blocked. It was available through the Advanced menu of the Internet Section but it is not there anymore.Prior to this update, I was prompted whenever I went into a new website if I wanted to allow or block cookies. If I wanted to change this at a later date, I could go into the cookie blocking section of McAfee and change it to either block or allow and there were two separate lists of the allow cookies sites, or the block cookies sites.I understand I can adjust cookie blocking via Internet Explorer but this McAfee function let me choose as I entered individual sites.I have been in contact with 3 McAfee technicians who dont seem to know what I am asking and my Security Centre has been scanned via the McAfee tool and there are no faults in it.
I have McAfee internet suite, and I have it set so that I have to enter a password to open internet-based Applications. Problem is, I forgot my password.
Problems started to occure on March 18,2007. I load up my pc like normal. My McAfee had a strange error come up, it said "McAfee Security Center:Your computer is not fully protected". So I clicked it. I try to configure it so that I could get my suite working. Well nothing happened. I pressed auto fix, and it wouldnt work. So the security suite said that i should do a re-install. I completely removed it through add/remove programs. And tried to do a re install using my disc. It then said that the spam protection would load. Now everytime i try to load my security center, nothing shows. It just sits there.. Well now tonight at 10:59 on March 19 everything went down the hell hole. Now I figured that I was not the only person with this error so I actually found a post http://forums.mcafeehelp.com/viewtop...237e977a1b1b98 I tried to do what was on the list. Well what a thing happened. I now can't load any exe, or use and lnk file. It asks me to either choose from list, or search the net. I am in a sticky situation. I can't load regedit, I can't use system restore. I tried to use my dell operating system disc. to reinstall or go to a system restore point by loading up the disc. Well nothing is working, the only thing I can access properly are my flash games, and the internet, by using any address bar. screenshots posted below. http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y11...c/000_0431.jpg http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y11...c/000_0432.jpg
I am trying to intall McAfee Antivirus supplied by Comcast as a perk for using their services but I get an error code saying it will not install because I have Norton Antivirus 9 still installed on my PC. I removed that software over a year ago
When i click the turn off computer button it is supposed to install an important security update. The update thing never goes away even though it looks like the update has been installad.
A recent MS security download- KB888302 - will not install. I have tried several times without success. Other recent downloads from MS installed just fine. Is there a solution to this vexing problem?
I just resinstalled XP 2003 SP2 after changing motherboard. My C drive was cleaned to the bone also. My only question is do I have to reinstall every Microsoft Windows update?
I am currently facing their second list of updates, after a two-item previous list, and the current one includes about 61 Windows Security Updates for Windows XP. Should I install each one of them? Is their any alternative? This list has one cumulative update for IE, and one for Windows Media Player, but then sixty-one Windows Security Updates for Windows XP mostly all dealing with hijacking vulnerabilities.

Windows live suite seems to be missing in my pc. Every time I attempt to install windows live messenger, I get an error message reading: "Catastrophic failiure. Windows live suite wasn't found (or something very similar to that)". I've checked around microsoft web page for some type of Live Suite installer, but no luck.
I have been using "System Suite 4.0", but see SS 6.0 has been released. Rather than jump to upgrade SSuite, I wonder about the comparative value of "Register Mechanic", "Error Killer" and "PC On Point". Is there a site that routinely reviews and perhaps rates system utilities
What do I have to do to get rid of windows error code 0X80200010 ? My automatic updates worked fine. Windows update tries to give me 10 updates now, and thy download okay but do not install successfully. I'm using AVAST! antivirus which seems to work very well. I'm also using Mozilla Threatfire and PCTOOLS firewall. In a few more days, I will be 3 months behind on my security updates.
Its making these icons appear that are either porn or these downloads to those trojan spyware things. There are two icons where the time is, a yellow yield sign and the red x and they just lead me to more of those sites, can someone help me get rid of them?
There are suddenly no options listed under the "Manage security settings for:" heading, just blank space, so I have no way to edit my Firewall, Antivirus or Windows Update settings from the Center. I opened services.msc and it shows the service started automatically.
I've forgotten but in a new install of XP-Pro,SP2 using NTFS on C: I don't have the Security Tab when I right click on a folder to setup sharing. I want this so I can set Permissions, etc. I have it on my other PC set up the same way but for some reason I don't on this new install.
What am I doing wrong? My username is a member of the Andministrators group.
I haven't been to this site for a while and I noticed I'm getting Security Warnings that my security settings has blocked of an ActiveX install. I know how to change those settings, but am reluctant to do so. Can anyone shed some light on this. I occasionally will get similar warnings on other sites, but it is consistant on this one. Once in a while IE6 will hang up on this and I'll have to got to Ctrl+Alt+Delete to get out of it.
This update won't install and I had trouble once before...a long time ago... installing this update. I went to Google for a fix and on some forum a tech told me to un-install the ver. 2.0 that I have on there now...reboot...and then d/l the new update. I didn't bookmark the forum unfortuneately. Now, my system won't even allow me to un-install the old ver. 2.0 so I'm at a loss as to what to do. Does anyone know how to fix this
My Windows Secuirty Centre is still detecting an old AV program as up-to-date and active even though its no longer installed... same with the firewall is there any way of resetting the security centre or where in the registry can i find the entrys to modify?
many of the security holes found in software (especially Microsoft Windows) might have been deliberately put there as back doors into our computers for easy access by our governments. I guess my question is this. Will total, absolute, 100% security ever be possible or will our government always demand a back door in? It just seems that if any back door exists, it will eventually be discovered and exploited.
I have McAfee's Stinger on a CD, but I can't run it.When the screen saver comes up, all the Icon's disappear. Can't access the internet.I get a "Page_Fault_In_NONPAGED_AREA" The CD that Stinger is on is bootable, but that doesn't help. I am going to try putting an Autoexec.bat file on it.
A friend is being pestered by mcafee pop-ups telling her that her firewall needs updating. She does not use mcafee at all . She has Windows XP and its firewall is switched on. When she tried to delete it at 'Install /uninstall programs' it froze the computer. I suggested she start in safe mode and try. Here is her reply to me this morning: You won't believe this, but I have just spent the last 2 hours trying to get rid of mcafee. In safe mode you can remove all but the personal firewall. In normal mode it froze when I tried to remove it. In the windows security section it tells me mcafee personal firewall is on and you can't switch it off there....and under "add/remove programs" it doesn't appear, yet it is still running and still giving constant error messages.
