View 3 RepliesI have windows XP media edition on a Gateway 510XL 3.2 mhz machine. My AVG was expiring so I decided to try another program. I got McAfee security suite and installed it on my system. I had problems on the install (conflict with ad-aware plus) and tried to reinstall. Before reinstall I picked up a bug that automatically resets my home page to http://www.new114.com.cn:8080/ every time I reboot.

Any ideas folks????

View 6 Replies View RelatedI went to use PerfectDisc yesterday, it suggested I do a bootup scan, I did, allowed it to do pagefile scan too. Ran fine. Then rebooted, went to do regular scan. it locked up on the Blue Screen of Death.
"Bad_Pool_Header" and gave some error info... 0x00000019, and so on.
Computer runs fine though otherwise, which is funny.
Then when I try to go to Registry Mechanic and scan, it goes all the way through, and on I believe the deepscan, it always goes to BSOD there. I think while it's in the HKEY section of current user.
There may be other programs that will cause the BSOD, but these 2 are the only ones so far. Please guide me through this....Anyone.

The first time I log in after I turn on my computer, I can't run anything that I have a shortcut for on the desktop, because it will freeze for a while. The reason for this is probably too many things starting with the computer at start-up.I regularly scan for spyware with Spybot, and rarely get anything. I also have ZoneAlarm as my firewall.

View 1 Replies View RelatedRunning win 2000 pro SP4. every time i reboot, certain program settings are lost. for example, my zonealarm settings are lost, and all program net access authorizations have to be re-authorized, when the programs attempt to connect to the net. It will not remember the "always use this answer" option, that you can check in zonealarm to keep from having to continue to re-authorize the program each time it is run. Does anyone know what could be causing this?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI downloaded ZoneAlarm and Spybot S&D. Things worked ok until I got a little tired of all the ZA balloons popping up and went in to try to lessen the frequency of them. Afterwards, I got to where I couldn't access things that I had before the attempted change. I used "system restore" back to "pre-installation of ZA and Spybot". Things seem to be normal but I feel that I do need (i am told) of the protection that the two downloads offer. Now when I try to download ZA and Spybot and try to install from my desktop, a window appears saying that the install is corrupt.
How can I get a good install of each of these? If I can get them back, I'll just click the balloons off my screen, no matter how many times they appear. I do have a lot of posts prior to this one ( Re: Spyware Infection[in this section-3 to 4 days ago]). I am VERY computer challanged (as a few Moderators here know by now) so instructions need to be simple.
I clicked on the add/remove program and I tried to uninstall the adobe suite 3 but it 's stuck. How do I remove it?

I haven't been to this site for a while and I noticed I'm getting Security Warnings that my security settings has blocked of an ActiveX install. I know how to change those settings, but am reluctant to do so. Can anyone shed some light on this. I occasionally will get similar warnings on other sites, but it is consistant on this one. Once in a while IE6 will hang up on this and I'll have to got to Ctrl+Alt+Delete to get out of it.

View 1 Replies View Relatedmany of the security holes found in software (especially Microsoft Windows) might have been deliberately put there as back doors into our computers for easy access by our governments. I guess my question is this. Will total, absolute, 100% security ever be possible or will our government always demand a back door in? It just seems that if any back door exists, it will eventually be discovered and exploited.
