I got McAfee security suite and installed it on my system. I had problems on the install (conflict with ad-aware plus) and tried to reinstall. Whenever I try to open IE, it will open about 50 times. I cannot access my internet at all. I can log onto messanger and anything else but IE. I have run "sfc /scannow", ad-aware, I am unable to update my mcafee because this laptop was given to me and I dont have access to update it and I cant access the internet, I obviously cannot do an online virus scan, I have just completed a disk cleanup. I've ran ewido 2 days ago and spybot. IE sometimes doesn't load and I cannot access the resistry from RunRegedit.exe, it also opens then closes.

All is downloaded successfully, but I get two error messages within Live Update as follows: Fatal error installation failed. LU 1812 - Part update not applied, update failed. I downloaded EZ Trust Antivirus 2005, but am not able to install it on my Windows XP 2002, Service pack 2, Dell Optiplex Dim2400. The original download was done on my personal desktop and then copied to "admin" desktop. The error message is "You do not have authority to run this program, please log on as administrator." This error appears even in safe mode and even when I am logged on as administrator.

It then asks for an activation key, which we have from the email sent to her. When we click OK to tell it that we want to put it in, it does nothing. No matter how long you wait or how many times you click OK, the box just sits there. For this reason, we cant update her virus definitions or get norton to protect her computer. norton is not the only button that will not respond. Somehow the viewpoint toolbar was installed on her computer. When we try to uninstall the viewpoint toolbar or if I go to add/remove programs and try to uninstall it from there, it brings up a box that asks are you sure you want to uninstall viewpoint It does the same as the norton box; it will not respond, even if I click yes and wait
View 5 Replies View RelatedI have run into a snag. After installing Trendmicro I started having problems. After the install it took forever to load, and when it did I get a warning that I have no virus protection. I removed Trend with it's own removal tool and installed AVG Free, I get the same thing, The resident shield and email won't start. I install Vipre and the same thing protection is turned off and won't turn on. I have cleaned the registry of all norton traces, avg and others. I have did a scan with viper while it was installed and found a few items that I cleaned. I'm at my wits end and have never seen this happen before.

So I done a clean install formatting my hard drive fully and starting from scratch. And to my fear I still could not access ANY antivirus sites still.
I had only installed AVG Free and Firefox. Even before I connected the net to the computer I put AVG on just to be safe and it still would not update.

I got in touch with microsoft and this what they want me to do, but to be honest I don't trust them I don't want to mess my system up, so would you please have a look at what they have sent me.

After installation, Windows informed me that Norton would have to be reinstalled. I tried reinstalling it, but couldn't until the disabled one was uninstalled. When I tried to uninstall it, there were some files that the uninstall program couldn't find, so the uninstall failed. I need to know how I can get the disabled one off my system so that I can reinstall Norton again.

The only way I can run any spyware/malware removal programs is to install it fresh. The program(s) will open, then it'll shut down 2 seconds into the scan. It even shuts down my registry cleaner as soon as it begins to clean (after it finds all the errors). All these programs simply terminate themselves. It does this in SafeMode as well.

View 12 Replies View RelatedAfter uninstalling a number of suspect programs, I ran my anti stuff, AdAware SE, Ewido, Spybot, Ccleaner, AVG, Stinger, CWShredder and Housecall. Got rid of a lot of Trojans & spyware. There is still a suspect, something called DMVLite, cant seem to uninstall this one. Google search only led me to do an HJT log. Not to sure I want to do that.I also tried to uninstall a program called DVD Sentry, but it said the Windows Installer 3.1 was missing.
Maybe most important issue. Ran Belarc, said it is missing 40 critical updates ! There is a Windows Update Shield that says it has a download to install. KB888162,it detects if SP2 is properly installed, it is NOT.Wants me to uninstall SP2. When I go to uninstall, I get all these, cannot copy files.My question is, is it OK to click cancel on these cannot copy, since I cant seem to do anything else anyway.
HI, I just installed windows 2000 professional onto my computer. Everything works fine except that the resolution is really grainy. On some web sites I cannot even make out what the words are. I found out that when I go into my monitor settings in display properties I am unable to install the drivers for my monitor. Does anybody know a way in which I can get around this.

I have done tried all the recovery tricks from here and MS website, done chkdsk /f & /r repeatedly over four days without using the PC in between, and all the other stuff from here and Microsoft. Bought an expensive Reg cleaner and run it repeatedly. No luck. No recently installed soft or hardware. New Dell desktop. 1 year of trouble-free life until this. I now boot from the recovery XP CD (it includes SP2) to try to reformat the whole shebang and it gets as far as loading setup files OK, then as usual tries to start load windows installation and ... blue screen. STOP error 0x0000007B (OXF78D2524 OXC0000034, OX00000000, OX00000000).
Decided to buy a new HDD and install XP on that. (3 weeks from Dell!) and in machine. Old one disconnected. Tried installing XP from disk. It stalls at exactly the same moment as before (loads up preliminary files, gets to ""starting Windows" and then the dreaded blue screen with the same error message as before. 0X0000007B (OXF78D2524, 0XC0000034, 0X00000000, 0X00000000). So presumably not HD (although always good to have one). Have downloaded Memtest and run it for 24 hours. No RAM errors reported.
I have McAfee's Stinger on a CD, but I can't run it.When the screen saver comes up, all the Icon's disappear. Can't access the internet.I get a "Page_Fault_In_NONPAGED_AREA" The CD that Stinger is on is bootable, but that doesn't help. I am going to try putting an Autoexec.bat file on it.
View 4 Replies View RelatedA friend is being pestered by mcafee pop-ups telling her that her firewall needs updating. She does not use mcafee at all . She has Windows XP and its firewall is switched on. When she tried to delete it at 'Install /uninstall programs' it froze the computer. I suggested she start in safe mode and try. Here is her reply to me this morning: You won't believe this, but I have just spent the last 2 hours trying to get rid of mcafee. In safe mode you can remove all but the personal firewall. In normal mode it froze when I tried to remove it. In the windows security section it tells me mcafee personal firewall is on and you can't switch it off there....and under "add/remove programs" it doesn't appear, yet it is still running and still giving constant error messages.

My question is should I renew - or is there someother anti-virus program that is better? What about AVG which is free - is that one reliable?

I need help in removing mcafee from my pc. When I go to add remove programs and try to remove it, it won't let me because it says I have a component missing or not installed right. Mcafee runs out tomorrow and want to use the one AOL has. How do I go about getting this program out. The one aol has won't work as long as mcafee is installed. This is what comes up when I try to remove mcafee.c:/progra ~1/mcafee.com/agent/unist/mpfrem.ui is missing.
