Another problem that occurred about the same time that the "about:blank" problem showed up was one that showed that something couldn't be loaded with McAfee when the desktop was coming up (a scripting problem), and that I had to select "yes" to have java scripts to work.
I have McAfee's Stinger on a CD, but I can't run it.When the screen saver comes up, all the Icon's disappear. Can't access the internet.I get a "Page_Fault_In_NONPAGED_AREA" The CD that Stinger is on is bootable, but that doesn't help. I am going to try putting an Autoexec.bat file on it.
A friend is being pestered by mcafee pop-ups telling her that her firewall needs updating. She does not use mcafee at all . She has Windows XP and its firewall is switched on. When she tried to delete it at 'Install /uninstall programs' it froze the computer. I suggested she start in safe mode and try. Here is her reply to me this morning: You won't believe this, but I have just spent the last 2 hours trying to get rid of mcafee. In safe mode you can remove all but the personal firewall. In normal mode it froze when I tried to remove it. In the windows security section it tells me mcafee personal firewall is on and you can't switch it off there....and under "add/remove programs" it doesn't appear, yet it is still running and still giving constant error messages.
I need help in removing mcafee from my pc. When I go to add remove programs and try to remove it, it won't let me because it says I have a component missing or not installed right. Mcafee runs out tomorrow and want to use the one AOL has. How do I go about getting this program out. The one aol has won't work as long as mcafee is installed. This is what comes up when I try to remove mcafee.c:/progra ~1/mcafee.com/agent/unist/mpfrem.ui is missing.
I been trying to uninstall mcafee because i just got Norton because i heard is better and it is interfiring w/ norton and mcafee don't have a uninstall nor is in ADD/REMOVE.
On boot up McAfee says Trojan Found Defender-EV and cannot clean, delete, or quarantine it. The file name is !Update-3595[1].0000 and the path is C:Documents and SettingsOwnerLocal SetttingsTemporary Internet FilesContent.IE5HV3JT9OE. I have scanned the box with Ad-Aware, Spybot, and used Windows Defender. I am running XP Home SP with pop up blocker enabled. I have cleared cache, deleted history, emptied recycle bin, etc I turned off system restore which deleted the restore point, then rebooted and turned restore back on. What is bizarre is when I manualy try to browse to the content.IE5 folder it is not under Temporary Internet Files. However there is a Content.IE5 folder under Temp.
After the most recent updates to McAfee Security Centre, I have been unable to locate the part of this security package where cookies where listed ie. there was a list of sites from which cookies were allowed or blocked. It was available through the Advanced menu of the Internet Section but it is not there anymore.Prior to this update, I was prompted whenever I went into a new website if I wanted to allow or block cookies. If I wanted to change this at a later date, I could go into the cookie blocking section of McAfee and change it to either block or allow and there were two separate lists of the allow cookies sites, or the block cookies sites.I understand I can adjust cookie blocking via Internet Explorer but this McAfee function let me choose as I entered individual sites.I have been in contact with 3 McAfee technicians who dont seem to know what I am asking and my Security Centre has been scanned via the McAfee tool and there are no faults in it.
I have windows XP media edition on a Gateway 510XL 3.2 mhz machine. My AVG was expiring so I decided to try another program. I got McAfee security suite and installed it on my system. I had problems on the install (conflict with ad-aware plus) and tried to reinstall. Before reinstall I picked up a bug that automatically resets my home page to http://www.new114.com.cn:8080/ every time I reboot.
I have McAfee firewall and anti-virus. Awhile ago I installed the security center and privacy service. After time ran out on the trial my M at the lower left corner is black now. I uninstalled the privacy service and the spam thing. But the small M is still black. How do I remove this security center to get my red M back? Is there a news group for McAfee?
When I defrag my Hard Drive, it states there is a file that couldn't be defragged. This has just recently started, all other times I've had no problem.
The file is WINDOWSPrefectchRUNDLL32.EXE-268BFF96.pf
When i try to do a clean sweep of windows.I throw in my windows re-installation disk and wait for it to do hardware config. when it finally reaches the making of the partition.i follow as intructed quick format when it gets to 69% it says it couldn't copy dxdiagn.dll this happend on every windows pro disk i have and i don't know what the hell is going on i tried to use a different cd drive, but nope still does the samethig it's a emachine.
I see that there are updates that need to be installed. So I click the balloon to install them. It tries to install them but then says some updates couldn't be installed. What do I do?
I was working on my computer last night and everything was fine. This morning I turned it on and got a message saying windows couldn't start because the file windowssystem32configsystem was missing or corrupt. The only option that I seem to have is to reformat and reinstall all the software which will wipe out all of my files. It have weeks of work on that computer. I sometimes back up online but it's been a long time since I've done that. Is there someway that I can fix it without a total reinstall?
My younger sister was playing on the "Neopets" website. She loaded up a browser-based game called "Shenkuu River Rush". As I understand, to do this, she needed to download the "3D Life Player". The game worked fine for a while, but then started to run slow, so she restarted the computer. When she restarted, it still ran slow. She was also running the latest version of MSN/Windows Live Messenger. Finally, she loaded up the game and the computer pretty much froze (impossible to do anything, and showed no signs of resolving) so I came and shut it down manually. When I switched it on again, the computer went into the usual "We apologize for the incovenience, but Windows did not start successfully." screen. Thinking nothing of it, I selected "Start Windows Normally" and hit enter. The screen stayed on the Windows XP loading screen for a while, then flickered to a BSOD (I couldn't out what it was at this point) and restarted. This time, I selected "Last Known Good Configuration", and the exact same thing happened. I then tried running it in Safe Mode (both regular and command line)
The computer came with Windows XP loaded on it (I think it might've been Home Edition?), but I had a Windows XP Professional disk so I booted up from that. The "Windows Setup" screen comes up, and at the bottom of the screen, as is routine, the "Setup is loading files..." message is present. Just when all the files are seemingly loaded, and the message at the bottom of the screen flickers to "Setup is loading Windows.
I have aquired an older laptop that has XP Home on it that has not had the windows Service Packs installed. I tried to load SP3 from a CD, but found that I needed SP1 or SP1a loaded first. Where can I safely get this outdated software ?
I RAN McAFEE VIRUSCAN, AND HAVE THE PERSONAL FIREWALL, AND STILL FOUND 12-13 PROGRAMS THAT COULD NOT BE DELETED, CLEANED OR QUARANTINED; WHAT THEN IS THE PURPOSE OF MCAFEE
I Accidentally Clicked A Folder That Started Installing Mcafee Virus Scan. I Realized That I Already Have Mcafee Virus Scan Included And Installed As Part Of Aol Safety And Security System. I Couldn't Cancel This Unintended Beginning Of The Installation So I Shut Down My Computer. Now, Every Time I Boot I Get A Prompt Sound And A Small Window Entitled Macafee Virus Scan Which Says Missing Resourse Dll, Please Re Install. My Uniblue Registry Booster Couldn't Eliminate.
I am trying to intall McAfee Antivirus supplied by Comcast as a perk for using their services but I get an error code saying it will not install because I have Norton Antivirus 9 still installed on my PC. I removed that software over a year ago
I have a Dell inspiron 2650, it is screwed up and I dont know what to do about it. I am running windows and office xp. Whenever I try to open IE, it will open about 50 times. I cannot access my internet at all. I can log onto messanger and anything else but IE. I have run "sfc /scannow", ad-aware, I am unable to update my mcafee because this laptop was given to me and I dont have access to update it and I cant access the internet, I obviously cannot do an online virus scan, I have just completed a disk cleanup. I don't know where to go from here,
Mcafee security came with my pc as a trial. I don't like mcafee and don't want mcafee, how do i totally remove it? if i try to remove it using add & remove i end up receiving error messages in outlook. I have tried contacting mcafee but can't even get them to reply (just 1 reason why i don't like mcafee).
The following is repeat of a previous post I put out there. I am still having the same problem and my anti virus, when it does run, says my computer is virus free. Whenever I run McAfee virus scan version 10 my computer completely shuts down at some point during the scan. However if I reboot and run scan a second time it runs fine. I am using Windows XP with all updates installed.
