I would like to know if there is an excellent program that a person could use to completely delete a program.I mostly use add/delete programs in the Control Panel, but there are times when I would like to use something to completely delete a program (hard drive files and registry files).
View 4 RepliesI inherited a great computer that is running SP1a. It has not been used in years but is running great. It has some great programs that cannot be replaced. I've heard SP3 is incompatible with a few programs and don't want to chance losing them. Also, since its an older system, I'd rather update 1 step at a time.
Where can I find service pack 2 being that Microsoft's site only links to SP3 (all SP2 links take you to an SP3 page)? I tried Download.com but only found SP3 and SP1a.

View 10 Replies View RelatedI tried to use "Compressed (Zipped) Folders" in Windows. It didn't work. Then I tried right clicking on a folder/file, selecting "Properties", pushing the "Advanced" button,I then checked "Compress contents to save disk space",and the folder and its contents turned blue but the size of the files,seeming, hadn't changed. Have the files actually been compressed? Should I get an external ZIP program? If so can you recommend a program?

View 5 Replies View Relatedis it possible to remove a installed program's name from the add/remove program list in the control panel. i recently had an important program removes from my system by mistake. i would like to make it im possible for tis to happen "by mistake" again. i want to keep the program installed but not have it show up in the list of programs in add/install programs.
his program is dependent on the internet to unload and download important information containing my progress. but the program will not stay up. it will exit without any error or warning to the desktop. No data is saved to their servers. I know it's got to be my end. as I have seen others use it (in the classroom) without problems. My connection is stable. and I have DSL. In cases like this I would usually uninstall and then reinstall. I can not lose my past progress as it is saved to their servers. But I cannot uninstall as the setup.exe for the program cannot be found, I have not done a manual uninstall before.
View 8 Replies View RelatedLately when I download any type of file whether it be from the internet or from my Sony Cybershot, I am being denied access to whatever I downloaded. Just downloaded pictures and video from my camera to my computer and I moved all 'video' to a folder I called 'our video'. Now that it is there I cannot access it. Just plainly says, " 'our video' is not accessible, access denied". It is not allowing me to move it to another folder as well.
When I tried to play the video before I was getting the access denied thing, media player was saying that it cannot play that type of file. I have NEVER had an issue with playing ANY pics. or video that came from my camera. This has been going on for a few weeks with every video or picture that I add to my computer. After it is downloaded I can't access it. I am running XP professional.

When it loaded up I noticed that everything is taking 2x as long to load and it is taking long time to even get the start button list up. I was able to get into the add/remove program list but nothing was there. The actual software doesn't seem to be on the setup cd, but I haven't downloaded it either. Have figured out that its give me slowdowns and wierdnesses and generally making me mad. Especially when I find that it does not show in Add Remove! Tried searching for Pure Networks remover, and other variations in wording. Find that lots of people have similar difficulties. The prompt after attempting to remove comes back with "The specific module could not be found" and leaves the program showing. I need to get rid of this entry. Secondly I want to remove "Calendar Creator 9" and when this is selected to remove, I get a prompt that says "To install the program it must first be removed using the Control Panel function Add/Remove. Clicking on the shortcut on the desktop does not initiate the program. I decided to uninstall the program by going into the Add/Remove folder of Windows XP. But from the Add/Remove folder, I was not able to uninstall the program. Its like 174.5 MB file sitting on my programs folder. Tried to use DOS delete command to delete files. But it looks like will take few months to clear all the files. I was able to delete some files by going into each menu/sub menu etc. It looked like a very tedious process. There are thousands of files for this program. Does anyone know any good program to remove/uninstall this program without damaging other programs?
