I tried to use "Compressed (Zipped) Folders" in Windows. It didn't work. Then I tried right clicking on a folder/file, selecting "Properties", pushing the "Advanced" button,I then checked "Compress contents to save disk space",and the folder and its contents turned blue but the size of the files, seeming, hadn't changed. Have the files actually been compressed? Should I get an external ZIP program? If so can you recommend a program?

View 3 Replies View RelatedI upgraded my Windows ME to Windows XP and somewhere during the process the 'My Documents' folder that we used to store all of our music, images and documents in has vanished.I suspect it was when changed the user accounts - I stupidly deleted the default account 'User' and created new ones for myself and my husband. I did a system restore which brought back the 'User' account, but none of the files.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm having a problem with Windows Explorer.Every time I connect a removable drive, the Folders panel displays a duplicate set of "Shared Documents username's Documents, and 2 other entries." It even happens when I plug in my phone to charge through the USB port. Basically, it happens when something is connected in the USB port, card reader, removable drive, ect. Please look at my screen shot and you will understand.I think it has something to do with a Motorola driver I recently uninstalled, but I don't remember which one.

View 9 Replies View RelatedWhen I go to my documents the document is listed there but when I click to open it, it won't load. It will however load if I am already in the program which usually opens it. Beside them it says SIG file, which I have no idea what that means. Also, it is just a blank box beside the file name (in my documents list) when usually there is a mini icon showing which program will work to open it.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have installed win XP pro a couple of days ago, and I thought that it would be a good idea to put windows in a separate partition. Since then I have installed a few applications on a different partition, but it is not uncommon for applications to put something in the program files folder anyway Is there a safe and easy way of having "my documents" and or "program files" on a bigger partition? Or would that defeat the whole point of a system partition?

View 6 Replies View RelatedI recently had to restore my XP system, everything appeared to be working great. I have been cleaning out duplicate pictures and such on my computer. Today I went to a search of all pictures on my computer. From there I do a List and sort by size, after that I click on images so I can see if there are duplicates on my files. There is duplicates of everything however when i look into the file containing the pictures or documents it shows that both of the items are in the same location. When I go to that location there is only one of the items. Does anyone know why my search is showing duplicates of everything however they have the same path.
I am at a loss as to why everything is duplicated on my computer, especially because when you look where they are located they are in the exact same files.

Although I am the administrator of this computer, I am unable to access "Documents," (I get this error message: "C: Documents and Settings All users Documents is not accessible. Additionally, I am blocked from access to the Shared Music and Shared Picture Samples that come installed on XP Pro. Please tell me how I can restore this folder to its original capacity as a "shared documents" folder. I am currently unable to set any of my folders to be shared. I am using XP Pro.

In the startup folders of the start menu, if the items are in the user's startup folder, they don't start up. If the item is in the All Users startup folder, they open twice. This is evident as well when looking at startup items in msconfig. If the items are in the user's startup folders, they don't appear in msconfig, but when they are in the All Users folder, they appear twice, once as "Common Startup" and once as "Startup"
