Finding Msconfig To Remove Unnecessary Items / Programs?
Mar 5, 2006I know that when you have windows 98 and you type msconfig in the run then you click on the tab saying startup you can remove unnecessary things from loading that will only slow down your computer.But on windows 2000 pro when I type msconfig it says it is not there - what do I use to remove unnecessary things from starting up that are not kneeded to run the computer ?And what should stay there and load at startup so the computer has no problems ?

Jun 8, 2006My brother and I tried plugging in my mp3 player I've got this "safely remove hardware" icon in my system tray. I think we mite have plugged it into the 1394 port (what's a 1394 port for?). Anyway, it shows four external hard drives (I have 4 USB outlets on my computer. Right now I am using only one of the USB ports for my printer which works fine at bootup and after I use the "safely remove hardware" icon. So why is it there, how do I get rid of it so it doesn't come up every time WinXP starts?

Sep 17, 2005I'm running win XP home with 4 restricted user accounts for 4 kids.I have two programs that ran OK on WinME and run just fine under an admin account on XP, but don't run properly under a restricted account.One is a Disney game. The other is the "well of souls" multi-user game. I can let the kids run those programs as the admin user using the "Run As"feature, but to do that they need the admin password, so they're always asking me to type it in for them. So, I want a way to allow those just two programs to always run as an admin user, without having to enter the admin password each time they run. Is there any way to do that?

There is no Change/Remove button in Add/Remove Programs but the program is there, 150 MB, and the file suggested on the HP website for uninstalling older printers from XP produces a message that it's "unsupported" can't remember exact verbiage, been a while since last tried. Even reinstalled in the hopes that a message would come up to the effect "this program is already installed, do you want install to remove it prior to completing this install," but it just installs the printer again with a number after it ... I'm up to "hp officejet g series - 3."

When I attempt to uninstall a program, the corresponding programs "uninstaller", asks for a network resource. Here is an example screen shot of what I am seeing when I attempt to uninstall Ad Aware: It doesn't seem to matter what I am attempting to uninstall. In all of the uninstall scenarios that I have seen Add / Remove programs asks for an MSI file with a similar name to the program that I am attempting to uninstall.
