Installed New NIC PCI Card / Finding Way To Remove Older?
Sep 3, 2005
(From inside "Help & Support Network disgnostics System scan") I show three others no longer functioning-do not show in device manager. ( 3 instances of Intel Pro100-error is 'DHCP Server invalid address-255.255.255.255') New nic is PCI card-old instances were the On-MB type. Being a fastidious type, what registry keys would I find them in-in order to "Clean up" their leavings??

I inherited a great computer that is running SP1a. It has not been used in years but is running great. It has some great programs that cannot be replaced. I've heard SP3 is incompatible with a few programs and don't want to chance losing them. Also, since its an older system, I'd rather update 1 step at a time.
Where can I find service pack 2 being that Microsoft's site only links to SP3 (all SP2 links take you to an SP3 page)? I tried Download.com but only found SP3 and SP1a.

I'm in the market for a new desktop but don't like that I'm forced to have Vista as my OS in it. Seeing as how the selsction of (new) machines with XP is basically nonexistent, can I change the OS to XP with minimal trouble? After reading and hearing all the horror stories, I'd prefer to wait until Vista has all the bugs worked out before going that route.

I have a computer that was given to me to use as a backup. It has two small HDs: C is about 6 Gb and D is about 9 Gb. Win XP Pro is on drive C. It is set up as NTFS. The processor is about 1.5. I do not have the CD and, thus, do not want an illegal copy of XP on this computer. I have legal copies of 95, 98SE and an ME upgrade. I would like to reformat the HD to Fat32 and put on one of these older OS. However, when I try to FDISK it will not allow me to reformat the disk, apparently because it is NTFS. It has only the one partition.

I recently bought a Canon PowerShot SD430 Digital ELPH Wireless for use in my chiropractic practice. It will be used in posture evaluation and I selected it for the wireless feature. After unsuccessfully trying to install it on my samsung laptop R710 AS04 I was informed by canon help that 'Windows XP (excluding the 64-bit version) with Service Pack 2 installed is required to use the wireless function.' while the samsung came with Vista pre-installed.
My question is this: I still have an old CD of XP Home Edition, it is version 2002 with a part number X08-26270.....how do I know if this is the 64 or 32 bit version? Will I have problems installing SP2 on such an old version or should I pop for a newer one? I'm determined to make the danged camera work wirelessly, any other suggestions are welcome! Thanks!

I would like to know if there is an excellent program that a person could use to completely delete a program.I mostly use add/delete programs in the Control Panel, but there are times when I would like to use something to completely delete a program (hard drive files and registry files).

I know that when you have windows 98 and you type msconfig in the run then you click on the tab saying startup you can remove unnecessary things from loading that will only slow down your computer. But on windows 2000 pro when I type msconfig it says it is not there - what do I use to remove unnecessary things from starting up that are not kneeded to run the computer ?And what should stay there and load at startup so the computer has no problems ?

I Installed the Microsoft .NET Framework because it was listed as a high priority update and it appears that Windows Cardspace was installed with it. Windows Cardspace shows up in control panel as a vertical file such as are in Windows Vista. Also cardspace freezes the computer and keeps it from restarting. Should I uninstall the .NET framework 3.0?The freezing and restarting problems only happens when I'm trying to use cardspace(actually cardspace never loads.)
Another thought-I've seen links to windows xp help forums off the microsoft website but now I can't find them. Does anyone else know where they are?

I have an unused Belkin PCI network card installed in my desktop XP pc. I don't want to see it listed at all under the Network Adapter listing in Device Manager. I understand that I can easily disable it, and have done that by right clicking on the drop down list and selecting Disable. I have also selected Uninstall but of course every time the pc is booted up again it finds the device and it reappears listed within the Network Connections again. Is there any way short of actually physically removing the card from the pc to actually uninstall the card "for good" and prevent it from showing up in Device Manager and Network Connections again?

this is really tricky to explain. i installed a graphics card a while ago, and since then i have been getting stop messages when i log on. i fixed the driver and now they are less frequent. also i receive notification that the registry has been restored from a backup. and spybot is reporting that it has been changed . i have no virus or spyware its a clean PC. is there a program i can use to collect data about these error messages to help you diagnose them.

I have a Compaq EVO D51S SFF which I had plugged to my LCD TV as a media centre, just to watch movies and all. I had not connected this computer to the internet because I did not have a wireless card.I finally installed a wireless card, and then windows started doing all sorts of updates as expected (since the version on the SFF was SP2).Once windows was done with the updates, I started having problems with the screen resolution.
The SFF does not have a stand alone video card, so I had set the resolution at 1024 x 768, and this worked just fine before the updates. Now, the resolution keeps changing and this is a problem because the LCD TV gives me a message saying "Resolution Not Supported", so I can't use the computer unless I connect it to a regular computer monitor, select 1024x768, and then connect to the TV. I connect via VGA port, not DVI (don't have DVI).

I'm having an Ethernet card to go online and I tried everything to connect my computer to the internet but they all failed. After several attempts with the internet support guy to connect my computer, he finally told me that the ip that shows up in my computer is a wireless router ip that I used somewhere sometime and it is stuck. So, it's preventing the new ip from taking its place. How can remove the stuck ip from my Ethernet card?

2 year old 2650 Dell laptop running XP. Installed a Linksys wireless G card and then a couple wks later the machine won't reboot. When powering up I get the blue Dell screen with "F2 for setup" and then it goes to a dark silver/black screen with a pretty white cursor flashing upper left corner of the display. Besides that I get nothing. Power down/up/sideways and nothing, except the same Dell screen noted above and the same silvery black screen w.cursor.
I've removed the batt so only the power cord is feeding it. No dice. I did somehow manage to get to my desktop a few min ago after 2 wks of no attempts but as soon as I tried to launch IE it froze and I had to power down and now I'm back to square one. Have also tried F8 a hundred times, as well as dancing on my left big toe while chanting to the computer gods.
