More Then One Option On Startup - Automattically Remove Setup
Feb 6, 2007
I recently re-installed XP and now when my computer boots up I have 3 choices Windows XP Professional Windows XP Professional Windows XP Professional Setup It gives me 5 seconds to chose which system I want to load, if I don't make a choiceit automatically loads the Setup. The only one I need is the first XP Professional listed
I mistakenly launched XP Setup and want to know how to stop it from progressing further. I have another XP installed on another virtual disk. Rebooting from there allowed me delete the Setup files. Or so I thought ! The main XP installation however continues to try to launch Setup. Just about whatever I do, it ends in tears. My question is how do I stop XP on this disk from thinking it has to launch Setup? I dont want to reinstall XP, as that will involve a huge amount of work to recreate my environment.
The run link is missing from my startup menu...can anyone help me find it? I know this sounds dumb, but I really need to restore it to my startup so I can take care of some other problems I'm having.
A week ago I had some malware crap going on and was going to reinstall windows. The windows XP setup crashed partway through (was having some hardware malfunctions too so the comp crashed). I fired windows back up and found Malwarebytes. Ran it and it got rid of the malware and I was back to functional windows with no issues. Now at startup, I have a dual boot selection between Windows XP (which works normal) and the windows XP setup. How do I get rid of the Windows XP setup option so that it loads into WinXP normal?
My computer has been bogged down by spyware and such, and it's going to be much easier to just format my computer and start from scratch. How do i go about doing this, it's been a while.
How do you remove the "Common Startup" items from the startup list in msconfig for Windows XP? I did locate and remove the "Run" items that are located in HKLMSoftwareMicrosoftWindowsCurrent VersionRun.
When I click this option in my Start menu on my Dell Dimension 2400 with Windows XP Service Pack 2 I get a Add or Remove Programs window that gives me three choices: Microsoft Windows, Non-Microsoft and Custom. I cannot get the Microsoft Windows option to set because it stays set in the Custom option. When I click on the Microsoft Windows option and then click OK it will automatically go back to the Custom option.I have tried clicking and unclicking the Microsoft Windows options in the Custom tab but it does no good.
I have been trying to make some family clips and found ou that windows XP brings Movie Maker. I have Windows XP Home eddition. I removed a program via the add/remove programs and it seemed as though everything was removed... no traces of it on the desktop or via the start up menu. However, browsing through, (is it still windows explorer?), I saw that the folder is still there and full of goodies. Can I just delete the entire main folder? I get nervous in and around there since something is always sharing something from somewhere else.
Ok, so this week end I tried adding a new HDD on my XP machine. This HDD had 2 partition on it (from a previous XP install on another PC) so I used the XP install CD to basically remove it and create a single partition on it (that's the only way I knew how to do it). However, while doing that, it ended up creating a dual boot config so that now, when I start my PC, I have to chose which OS to start:1) The regular XP install2) The one that never got installed on the new HDD since I only partitionned it.?
I just acquired a used toshiba M45. Windows XP-home. In attempts to "clean" the drive, I encountered the problem with no "change/remove" button option in control panel. I followed the advice found here to change values in the registry as outlined at . The problem is that when I get to the final branch of uninstall in the registry, there are no programs listed there to change the value. I can't find any solution here, or with mr. google.
I am completely unable to generate ANY interest in this, and am baffled as to why, so maybe I can get some help here. how to actually get XP to recognize the checkboxes. As far as I can tell, this is display only(?). I'm trying to get it to work and suspect it may have something to do with the modes line in each INF
I cannot get into my PC. All of a sudden I trun on my PC and the login icons is MISSING! There is no username icon to click at the welcome screen. I tried to boot in safe mode and it still requires I click a user. I hit CNTRL+DEL+ALT twice to log on but it wouldnt take my password so I have no way to get into my system. Its Windows XP pro and I am not sure if I have SP2 or not.
I set my PC up as dual boot, with XP on the C drive and 98 on the D (or is it E) drive. But when I boot under 98, during the boot process I get two options:- Windows XP Setup - Microsoft Windows (which is Windows 98) Of course the cursor by default lands on Windows XP Setup, so if I do nothing that launches automatically and I have to quit, restart, etc.I figure I must have installed this when I was initially setting up XP. Is there some way to get rid of it? I no longer need to "set up" XP, and want it to just boot into 98 by default when I select that drive as my boot drive.
I have a dual boot PC, Windows ME on one HDD and XP on another, but for some reason the windows XP setup is now one of the options, and I 'd like to get rid of it without messing up the bootlog. Well i built my pc along with my friend at the end of April. I have had it for several months now. After i first built it, it ran just fine for about a month then BSOD started to occur. I researched on the internet and i found a post that said to post my minidump so that they can see it. When i searched for the minidump it wasnt there, my final solution was to reformat. I reformatted and the problem went a away.
I recently brought a laptop with XP Home preloaded, but as I had a retail CD of XP pro I thought I'd boot from that CD and run setup which includes a full reformat. I now have XP pro up and running, but I get an annoying "dual boot" screen giving a choice of XP pro and XP home! How can I get rid of this dual boot screen as XP Home no longer exists?
