I have a few problems.. possibly caused by Trojan.. but .. the one that begins withe start up..
an Error message.. windows cant find . and then it display's 5 little boxes.. <I dont know how to put the character here.. >
then after closing that display.. it comes up with another that has .. 3x as many boxes. and it recommends I remove them from the registry

I am using windows xp sp2 and i have an item in the start menu called "reboot computer into safe mode". I don't know how it got there and i want to remove it because its useless and it doesn't work.when i click on it a message pops up "windows cannot find ........... click the start button then click search." yes, I've tried removing it by right clicking on the taskbar and clicking the "taskbar and start menu properties" but there's not option to remove it there. So how do I remove it from the start menu.I know how to reg edit.

View 2 Replies View RelatedIm running XP, SP2, IE6.0-I like to keep my startup items down to a bare minimum, and this morning when checking on them in Spybot I noticed a new WinLogon had been added at the bottom (called "Schedule", file name "Schedule.exe"). Its the only one of that winlogon group that Spybot identifies, and what they say is it's by user preference. The official name is, Mercury EZ View TV Tuner Card--1, we do not have a tv to be used with this, 2., we never did. 3, my husband said he never installed this (much less heard of it) and 4, when I try to disable it, citing user preference, it won't go away. I know it's not spam or adware, but when something as apparently innocuous as this appears and will not disappear (no its not listed in the Add/Remove Programs) or at least allow itself to be disabled, I have to wonder why. It also does not show up in the HiJack list log, or as Badware in Spybot. Should I hunt this down and shoot it dead, or should I just ignore it?

Before uninstallation though, one of my siblings had run this script to update to Windows SP3 RC2. I do not want to install the newest RC2, as I'm now waiting for a final release. I changed my Windows Update Settings to download but to not install, as it was already downloaded from yesterday. Is there anyway to remove the already downloaded but not installed update for Windows SP3 RC2, and is there anyway to remove the script (that tells the computer to download SP3 RC2?)

Years ago, I edited the registry to remove the recycle bin from the desktop. I have its icon in the tool bar and I recently deleted it on accident. I cant recall exactly what I did to the registry.I have tried the microsoft suggestion to put the recycle bin back via regedit, but the file is still there.The problem, I believe, lies in the fact that when you go to desktop properties and select customize, recycle bin is not even an option along with My Computer, My Network Places, and one other that escapes me.

HKCUSoftwareMicrosoftWindowsCurrentVersionRun They have the ability to clone most startup entries, and they cant be permanently deleted. Over the last year I have downloaded and ran multiple scans, with various malware applications from quite a few web site help forums.None gave any indication of malware present, but I suppose you cant rule it out. The first time I notice something odd was with Misconfig, I had three startup entries for SISUSBRG. I deleted two of them and disabled the original one. Am Running Windows XP home with SP2 on a P4 machine,everything running smoothly except that I tried to uninstall a program through the control panel-add/remove route and even though most programs are listed there, only a few of them like 5 out of 40 odd have the change/remove button when the particular program name is clicked. It just shows size, used frequency and last used on, I cannot uninstall those programs incl. the officeXP package. I am absolutely sure all this was possible few days back and tried to get my system back to a 7-8 day restore point but this does not help as well

I use the free version of Grisoft's AVG so I ran a scan and it found 3 items, one of which was taskmgr.exe infected with Trojan horse SHeur.NOZ. It said it fixed them so I rebooted. The other 2 were svchost.exe and svchost_tmp.exe also infected by SHeur.QCZ
I have some startup items that I want to remove on my computer. I have used the msconfig to uncheck the boxes for these startup processes, but I then get a message when I startup about running in diagnostic mode. How do I permantly disable these processes?

WMPNSCFG.exe of Windows Media Player 11 Will NOT DIE!!!!
I have done the following:
1. disabled it in MSCONFIG
2. checked it in SERVICES.MSC and it is disabled
3. ran highjack this and removed the 04 wmpnscfg.exe from the list
4. Deleted wmpsncfg.exe and the wmpnssci.dll from the cprogram fileswindows media player.
and the thing still is in msconfig startup after i opened and closed Windows Media player,so has anyone been able to totally remove this crap form startup?
I use WMP for everything but dont need all that other crap running i dont even have a network cable connected to my pc.
dose anyone know of a good all in 1 media player i could try instead?
No wonder you need a newer pc to run windows Vista, Microsoft puts so much crap in there programs and OS that even when its disabled or windows says it is ....... it still runs !!
