I have my resume in My Documents (Windows 2000) and yesterday, as I was updating my resume, I was thrown into 'paragraph format' (?) and there are tabs and other marks all over the document. The thing is Windows is sending me an error message. I'll stop here and look for responses.

Yet if I have Word open and click on the document it opens instantaneously. Similarly, when I right click on a document, photo, spreadsheet file, it takes what seems a long time for the menu (Open, Run as, Send to, Delete, etc..) to open.

View 7 Replies View RelatedI use Office 2000. I think the latest big patch windows sent out. This was the one dealing with the Metafile Vulnerablity. Whenever, i click on a microsoft word document I get Windows Fax and Image viewer. The only way i can get it to open in word is to use this route. Right click the file>click on open with<choose Microsoft Word. This is just really annoying and i believe its related to the patch
View 2 Replies View RelatedI recently changed my text handler from Notepad to Metapad cause I like it better. Could that be why it dissappeared from my right click menu? Anyhow, anyone know where this is in the registry. Oh yeah, I also have TWEAK UI but for some reason, in the templates, I can't create a new template there. I tried with Notepad.exe, and also with Wordpad aka Write.exe but I get an error message saying: "This document cannot be used as a document template."
I also have FRESH UI and in Fresh UI, I selected "New" context menu and added extention ".txt" (without the quotes) and it confirmed that I sucessfully added the extention but it doesn't show up in the menu, even after three reboots. This is strange because it was always there, the option to create a .txt document in the right clickNew but it just disappeared.
One more thing, as per some website, I created a folder in Windows called "ShellNew" and put a blank text file in it from Notepad and then did some registry editing in HKEY classes root/ .txt as suggested from this website and created a new string etc blah blah, where you point to the SHELLNEW folder where the text file was but this did not work either.
While using word a message pops up: Runtime Error: it terminates the program and I am then not able to finish my document

It stops half way and another window pops up that says Installation error file not found. A required installation file SKU112.CAB could not be found. Original installation source required. If you installed Microsoft Office Standard edition 2003 from cd please insert your cd.
If you installed Microsoft office standard edition 2003 over your computer network please browse to the installation source on your computer. Also a window popped up that says Microsoft word has not been installed for the current user. Please run setup to install application. I don't have the cd its lost. This just started doing this about a month ago. I can't open any files through microsoft office word or power point.
I have Windows XP Pro SP2 as my OS. When I try to save a document directly from Word onto my DVD I get the message that is read-only. The OS does see the DVD drive because Roxio can burn to the drive. I prefer saving directly to the the drive from Word. What could be the problem?

The system is supposed to have Windows XP resident, but I'm not finding any of it. Also, I want to be able to convert old Word Perfect files to Word -- and vice versa, but have thus far been unsuccesaful in figuring out how to do it.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI recently had my computer reformatted. Unfortunately, it still has some issues. The first problem that popped up was that my computer "froze" after I clicked to print a Word doc. The screen turned blue (of course, my first thought was I had the blue screen of death), and I couldn't do anything with it, other than a hard shut down. It came back up fine and worked "okay" the rest of the day, although somewhat sluggishly. The next day, I tried opening a Word doc. and the screen turned purple and again a freeze. Hard shut down again, and things worked "okay" the rest of the day.
The next day, I was opening something (can't remember now if it was a Word doc.), the screen blinked and turned the color of our home page, which is a sort of rust. I called our tech person, described the issues, and he suggested that I had a problem with Dreamweaver 8. I uninstalled it, as per his suggestions, and reinstalled it. Things seemed to be working fine, but I now get this error:

Error in TSafeMailItem - MAPI_E_CALL_FAILED. I'm wondering if it could be an issue with Spam Fighter, which I downloaded as per the tech guy's instructions. I didn't get the error message until after reinstalling DW, then checked my email. I do NOT open spam, and the sites I usually go to are safe. I'm not saying I couldn't have gone some where that wasn't, but AVG hasn't found any issues, nor has Spybot.
I have ms bundled on windows XP my hp pavilion 1335w. I have saved a lot of word processing documents for my new (3 mos.) job. Now when I try to re-open them for revisal, or even just to look at them, I get a msg in a small window that says "Works task launcher cannot open the file you selected. It may have been either moved or deleted." If I can't get to some of these, I will lose my job! And I don't even know where to go for help, this is the first place i've tried. Can someone either sove the problem, or tell me when I can go for the answer?

View 1 Replies View RelatedMan, my computer for the last two weeks have been crashing like an emo. I mean, when I play GTA: San Adreas, in 20 minutes, I get a BSOD with a stop error. When I put hardware acceleration to full, in a half an hour, I get a BSOD with a similar error. Believe me, I got three kinds of errors, and some were from different time. I believe the problem either came from the either the PSU, new 512 mb of ram, old 512, CPU, system board, or the graphic card. I'll try to post the error as best as I can. So, is there a solution to this?
Error Message: STOP 0x000000EA THREAD_STUCK_IN_DEVICE_DRIVER (Q293078) This is one of them, but there another one with KMODE that I can't seem to remember. Also, sometimes, after it tries to recover from a serious error, the computer shuts down during the bootup before I can choose which XP version I can choose.
Also, I hate to say this, but I'm not using a legit windows copy sp1, but I have updated to sp2.

View 6 Replies View Relatedlaptop was infected with the Antivirus 2009 after surfing the web and I removed it using malwarebytes program. Then shortly after the laptop would show a blue screen, displaying "KERNEL STACK INPAGE ERROR" and then reboot. After the reboot, my laptop seemed to run fine, I downloaded AVG antivirus software to check if there was a boot sector virus (?) and after running the laptop for about 30 minutes, it showed the blue screen again and reboots. This kept on occuring.
Then I tried to reformat the laptop. The first time I tried to format it as FAT32, it got to about 60% before rebooting. The second time I managed to get past the formatting (FAT32 [quick])and I got onto the part of installing windows. About 20 minutes into the installation. A stop error appeared "STOP C0000218 Unknown Hard Error". Could the hard disk be corrupt

ive tried using 2 different type of memory on the m-board and still get the same error.
there are no other hardware besides a cdrom and hdisk, mosue and keyboard. i did have an old logitech mouse but swapped that as i read that can cause problems too.
i dont know how to go about fixing this as their is a hotfix for acpi problems but thatr equires u to actually have windows on teh pc in teh first place i.e safe mode.
i can get into bios and it performs POST no problems. the only other thing is it boots fromcdrom but it says no emulation.
I have a Toshiba Qosmio F15-AV201 Win XP MCE SP 2 laptop purchased in 2005. I have a one year old Toshiba Qosmio specific HD, that's the only change in the system I've made. I have satellite internet and use a Linksys router for the Qosmio. I live in a VERY rural area, so I left the connection unsecured.I got a stop error "attempt was made to write to read-only memory" and the culprit per the blue screen was w29n51.sys. The exact error code is 0x000000BE.Another weird "symptom" was vertical blue lines on the windows start up screen. These weird blue lines were NOT there in safe mode.My son recently downloaded a bunch of crap on the desktop, MP3s and possibly video clips. He got some nasty spyware/malware I managed to get off the desktop via the recovery console.

View 2 Replies View RelatedThe computer I am working on is a Compaq Presario SR1020NX running Windows XP Home Edition. It connects to the internet via a Linksys WMP54G adapter. It tried to install Windows XP SP3 and it failed. While the update was trying to work correcting the changes it made it froze so my b/f powered it off. It rebooted just fine and he was on the internet for a little bit and then it stopped working. We recycled the modem and the router, I reset everything. Tried to uninstall and reinstall the adapter and nothing worked. I contacted Linksys and we tried to use WZC to connect to no avail. After troubleshooting a little more we determined that it had to do with the updates that were just installed on the pc. The tech suggested removing all the updates that were just installed and try again. I tried...but that is where everything went heywire. I uninstalled the first update and rebooted.....then got a blue screen flash up that said autochk program not found - skipping autocheck and then went to an endless boot cycle. I couldn't boot in safe mode, tried last known good config and nothing worked.

View 2 Replies View Relatedi have a customer that is getting a stop error when they boot the pc. the error flashes too quickly on the screen to catch it. i know there's a registry entry somewhere that i can change that will change the reboot automatically setting. does anyone know what it is? there should also be a log file that will also show me the what the stop is, but everything i see is all binary data.

I have a legal copy of XP Pro and try to boot using the cd in the cd drive. it will run setup and load all the drivers and when it would normally start windows, i get the stop screen error. I have tried several boot disks with the same results. I tried Morphix (Linux) and a ERD with same results.

Whenever I try to install almost anything, I get Stop error 0xF4, which is the termination of a system-critical process or thread. Sometimes it happens for no reason, but for the most part, it's usually just when I'm installing something. Unfortunately, I don't have all the parameters of the stop error, but according to the Overclockers Forum, my first parameter (0x03) denotes that it is a process that is being terminated.
There are sometimes when the sfc /scannow command can temporarily fix the problem (that is, to run it before installing an app, then install the application once it is finished) but that's not always the case.
It should also be noted that there are some instances when I get a 0x7A error, but this is seldom. I merely included it in the event that it may prove to be helpful.
I'm running Windows XP Home, with an ASUS A8N-VM-UAYGZ motherboard. I'm sure you guys need more specs than that, and if so, please tell me. Recently I bought a very cheap Acer Aspire M1640-E1150 which came with an MSI motherboard, an Intel Pentium Dual Core E2200, 2 GB of DDR2 RAM, and a 320 GB HDD from Hitachi. The system came with Vista initially installed on it, and needless to say, it was very slow! I decided to do the right thing and go to XP, so I found all the drivers required and I proceeded to install Pro from a disc that I have from a previous computer. As soon as the screen booted up and the system was being checked by the program, the system gave me an error message, before I even got to partition anything, it was initial. I tried to restart, took one of my RAM sticks out, but nothing was working. I even tried to format the HDD through an external drive, but nothing was working.
The error message is "Stop: 0X0000007B" and something about a virus or a software or a hardware being the problem. The system was running smoothly on Vista, and I even formatted the C drive, and I am sure that there were no viruses.
I have another long thread kinda ending up with this, but it died. The thread. Everyone ran away. This was long ago enough so I think posting again is not duplicating.Now, since getting this sytem around 6 mos ago. which now has new mobo---tho the original one was fine and now I have a spare and now good thermal paste, but the symptom manifested on both boards.I have, very occasionally been getting pool error stop screen.I was asked to post the speicific error with the premise that someone might understand the code and provide more info.i waited until it presented again.took pics and posted them. It has not presented since.I will now upload those again.if anyone knows wut this particular code means, that would be amazing. Cause I have done everything I can to find out, including on MS..and they have a page there which made me throw up, forget is not about my individual code.
