View 6 RepliesI've searched the numbers but came up with nothing. The runtime 216 error worried me since it usually is a virus so I ran two scans(antivir-which I normally use and symatec) both show the pc is clean. The boxes only occur when the last window is closed. The first box is an explorer application error 0x018638ae reference memory 0x0197cca4 memory could not be read. After that box is closed the runtime error 216 at 018638AE pops up.
My computer keeps coming up with a message saying Runtime Error 217 and iexplore.exe application error. It says : The instruction at 0x300a2074 referenced memory at 0x065a8e24.The memory could not be read read.Click on OK to terminate the program. My Computer is running Windows XP Media Center.

View 7 Replies View RelatedI recently changed my text handler from Notepad to Metapad cause I like it better. Could that be why it dissappeared from my right click menu? Anyhow, anyone know where this is in the registry. Oh yeah, I also have TWEAK UI but for some reason, in the templates, I can't create a new template there. I tried with Notepad.exe, and also with Wordpad aka Write.exe but I get an error message saying: "This document cannot be used as a document template."
I also have FRESH UI and in Fresh UI, I selected "New" context menu and added extention ".txt" (without the quotes) and it confirmed that I sucessfully added the extention but it doesn't show up in the menu, even after three reboots. This is strange because it was always there, the option to create a .txt document in the right clickNew but it just disappeared.
One more thing, as per some website, I created a folder in Windows called "ShellNew" and put a blank text file in it from Notepad and then did some registry editing in HKEY classes root/ .txt as suggested from this website and created a new string etc blah blah, where you point to the SHELLNEW folder where the text file was but this did not work either.

Just a few days ago my MCE 2005 HP laptop (DV9005us) started giving me the RPC terminating error. Google search turned up possible MBlaster trojan but cannot find any evidence of such as offered by Symentac, M$, etc., yet the "error" persists. It really a nuisance. Using taskmgr I can restart and usually everything returns to normal and stays that way all day.If I turn the laptop completely off for 20-30 minutes or more, the symptom returns. Less than that it operates normally.Hesitate to take a chance fooling with the MBlastFix by Symentac. If it's not that I may be in even more trouble.Have tried two sys restores and one image restore but sumptoms do not change.Would appreciate some help on this. Hate to use HP's recovery system-- it wipes out everything.

I badly need your support. Day before yesterday (01-Aug-06) night I upgraded the yahoo toolbar and used their norton anti spy to scan. Then I shut down the system and started to work the next day. View 2 Replies View RelatedInstalling on a rather old, but still well functioning machine with a Gigabyte RZ series MB, a 3DForce4 video card, 1G RAM, Intel P4, one cd connected, a floppy for no use tho I suppose, usb connected mouse and keyboard. It starts like it's working fine, it formats the drive, it copies files, then it says it needs to reboot to continue set up and then when it turns back on, it just starts the same process all over again, it doesn't move to the next step. The OEM disk was sealed and all so I don't know why it would be the disk, I did buy it off ebay I think, but then again maybe it was newegg. I mean the min requirements for xp are still below what this machine has and the machine itself works because I was just using it myself up til about couple weeks go when I put my new computer together. This is for my Dad and I need to get it working, his old computer, my old old computer is really on the fritz now. Win 7 loaded on mine in a jiffy and now 3 and half hours later I can't make headways getting xp onto his.
View 14 Replies View Related my computer is not starting up.It seems that when my computer "loads up," it quickly flashes some blue screen uber language and reboots. The only options I have are to start windows up normally, start up with last working settings, or safe mode. None of these work, and always lead to the same result: a reboot.
Does this sound like a virus problem or a broken hardware problem or what? I use XP, btw.
I am using Windows XP Professional, service pack 1 is installed. A few days ago the PC would not boot up. I had to reinstall Win XP Pro. All my programs had to be reinstalled because Windows did not acknowledge they were there. All 23 of them work fine. Here's where I ran into a problem. I use a Matrox G200 Quad card with TV Tuner. I downloaded and installed the software for the card and that too is fine. When I download the software for the TV part of the card to work, I double click on the unzipped set up file and it starts working, that gets to the part where it says "Preparing to Install" then it just disappears. It worked before the reinstall of windows. How can i figure it out.
View 2 Replies View RelatedWhen I start my computer it usually takes a minute or two to load everything, but then when I try to click on any icon nothing happens. If I run the mouse over the toolbar at the bottom of the screen I see the hourglass instead of the arrow which I am used to seeing. I have to shut it down cold since nothing will work and I usually do this 2-3 times and then it finally loads completely. I can use the cont/alt/del feature and nothing is showing any action except for "system idle process" which is at 98%. I have tried running all the usual virus scans/adaware/spybot. Everything looks fine. The computer runs just fine after it finally loads. And I have waiting a half hour or so before trying to click on anything and some days it is still not fully loaded yet. It seems like it is just getting hung up somewhere just when its almost finished loading.

View 11 Replies View RelatedKaZaA, one of the most famous P2P programs tends to hog the processor, this results in the termination of the program after few seconds. This tweak can be used on systems that have the above mentioned problem. Here it is...1. Download and install KaZaA.2. Right-click on the shortcut of the program and click on "Run as...", this will prompt you to select a user to run the progam as..do not forget to select the "Protect my computer and data from unauthorized program activity".3. Click OK and everything is back to normal..happy downloading!!Here is a final note on what I just discovered..you cannot change the options while running in the protected mode..so just run it in the normal mode, I mean the mode that hogs your CPU...change the necessary options and close down before KaZaA terminates...this should do the trick!Cheers!
