View 2 RepliesInstalling on a rather old, but still well functioning machine with a Gigabyte RZ series MB, a 3DForce4 video card, 1G RAM, Intel P4, one cd connected, a floppy for no use tho I suppose, usb connected mouse and keyboard. It starts like it's working fine, it formats the drive, it copies files, then it says it needs to reboot to continue set up and then when it turns back on, it just starts the same process all over again, it doesn't move to the next step. The OEM disk was sealed and all so I don't know why it would be the disk, I did buy it off ebay I think, but then again maybe it was newegg. I mean the min requirements for xp are still below what this machine has and the machine itself works because I was just using it myself up til about couple weeks go when I put my new computer together. This is for my Dad and I need to get it working, his old computer, my old old computer is really on the fritz now. Win 7 loaded on mine in a jiffy and now 3 and half hours later I can't make headways getting xp onto his.
View 14 Replies View RelatedI have a deskstar 7K250 60 GB HDD hard drive and Im installing into a compaq with a motherboard cr 120 (i know putting big hard drive into that crap) anyway and the other hard drive is a Seagate Medalist 6423. well the desk star was originally partitioned into 2 drives I kinda unpartitioned it and repartitioned it later. Now then with the Seagate in their as the master I can still use the deskstar to store data. however if i try to load XP on the deskstar alone it will get through the dos format and all the way till it restarts.
after it restarts it wont load the os all the cables are connected its been partitioned into 2 drives again (though i dont think that had anything to do with it) although i think its pointless cuz i do get the 1720 SMART error but i hope thats a false sign.cuz when i have the seagate as the master im able to use it for just storing **** but Im just at my wits end and im thinkin of going "office space" on the hard drive plz i need help idk if its not compatible or what. any help would be appreciated.
I am using Windows XP Professional, service pack 1 is installed. A few days ago the PC would not boot up. I had to reinstall Win XP Pro. All my programs had to be reinstalled because Windows did not acknowledge they were there. All 23 of them work fine. Here's where I ran into a problem. I use a Matrox G200 Quad card with TV Tuner. I downloaded and installed the software for the card and that too is fine. When I download the software for the TV part of the card to work, I double click on the unzipped set up file and it starts working, that gets to the part where it says "Preparing to Install" then it just disappears. It worked before the reinstall of windows. How can i figure it out.

View 8 Replies View RelatedI have a dell latitude CPI laptop. Has windows 98. I would like to have a new operating system XP (like what I have on my PC at home)I tried to do a clean install on the latptop with format c: s/ (to save the system files) and to wipe the harddrive clean. I then installed MS XP Home edition. When it boots up, it shows I have the two operating systems on the harddrive. Maybe that isn't a problem, but I would think it would take up harddrive space.

View 3 Replies View RelatedFor some reason windows xp is not loading and it says windows did not start succesfully. A recent hardware or software change might have caused this. When i try to start it on safe mode it says a problem has been detected and windows has shut down to prevent damage to the computer.
View 14 Replies View RelatedI've tried to install Windows Xp Pro on my raid 0 array (2 x 320Gb Seagate drives), but I can't get Xp to recognize it. The raid option is enabled in the bios and when the setup ask for it, I load the SATA/RAID drivers from Gygabyte but it only allow me to see the other 2 non-raid sata drives. I've setup the array with the Intel tool in my bios (Gygabyte 965P-DQ6, F3 bios) and it suposed to be up and running. In fact, I can see it when I boot into the Windows Xp installed on my other drive.
View 14 Replies View RelatedI have a laptop that is about 3.5 years old - out of warranty of course. I messed something up, badly. I would like to re-install Windows XP and start fresh however. I can't find the CD that supposedly came with the system. So i have Windows XP Home on the computer already, and it works for the most part. But i need to start fresh. But without the CD, i'm stuck. (no hidden partitions, no restore on the harddrive). It's a Dell 700m. I can run to Staples and buy a WinXP Upgrade CD for $99. Will this work on my system? I don't want to spend any more time trying to fix my system - i've tried just about everythng and quite frankly, my time is worth more than the cost of the program. So what do you think? Will a store bought WinXP Home UPGRADE disc do the trick?

View 14 Replies View RelatedGoal: To install windows on an IDE drive, located on Primary IDE Master.
Problem: When booting from the windows cd, it will do the initial install just fine (when it's in the CMD looking bootup). Then when it finishes and restarts the computer, it will boot into the exact same 'installing windows' setup screen. It will never get 'into' windows and 'continue' the setup via the GUI like usual (in which case it would give an approx time left for install).Troubleshooting Tried: If I take the windows cd out on that reboot (right after the first install), it will just display an error regarding "No System Disk" (forgot the exact error). The only thing it wants to do is boot off the windows cd and reinstall all over again. This is on a new computer build.
decided to remove the battery from my motherboard hoping to reset some bios settings
but on doing this I pulled out some wires, that where just under the battery by mistake theres five speghetti looking wires, no idea where they go. there is two places i can put them under the battery or beside it ,but no sure how, looks like this :::.: and there is a identical one beside it. one connection with two holes has Reset SW written on it, another two hole one has HDD LEED, and M/B SW, then two with one hole each green and white wire, help hate spaghetti. I was going to remove the battery for a few hours, then try to do a clean install, instead i let all hell loose.
I want to perform a Clean Install of Windows XP, but I'm not sure how.

View 6 Replies View RelatedSo I have tried EVERYTHING to get an operating system onto my Acer 3610 laptop. It has a brand new IDE Hard Drive, brand new RAM chips.
I have tried to load XP by using the standard install disc. I have tried to pre-load the i386 folder onto the HD and run through DOS. I have tried to install DOS 7.1. I have tried to install XP using a Win98 Boot Disc. I have tried to install using Hiren's Boot CD.
Every time I try there is an unknown issue. When directly booting from XP cd gives a "LINE 1026 txtsetup.sif error." DOS 7.1 has a "CPU Error - Incorrect OPCODE." I have tried using another laptop to start the XP install process, then move the hard drive back to the Acer when XP setup reaches the "Remove DISC and restart computer" portion.
I cannot seem to figure out what the issue is. I have seen posts saying several of these are hardware issues, although every removable piece of hardware is either replaced or have been reset on the laptop.
