Install Direct X Without Re-Install Operating System
Jan 23, 2008
Accidentally removed my Direct X from my machine Win XP SP2 32bit. Now when i do dxdiag, in the system tab it shows directX version: not found. Is there anyway to restore this directX without having to re-install windowx again?
Yeah I have reformatted my hard drives a few times over the years so I am no stranger to it however I am just curious about something. When I go to reformat with my DELL Windows XP Home Edition CD I will then revert back to SP1. I have SP3 installed onto my computer right now. I also have a SP2 CD I got from Microsoft about 3 years ago or so. Should I first install the SP2 cd or is there no need to do that seeing SP3 should have all of SP2 updates in it?
I have a dell latitude CPI laptop. Has windows 98. I would like to have a new operating system XP (like what I have on my PC at home)I tried to do a clean install on the latptop with format c: s/ (to save the system files) and to wipe the harddrive clean. I then installed MS XP Home edition. When it boots up, it shows I have the two operating systems on the harddrive. Maybe that isn't a problem, but I would think it would take up harddrive space.
For some reason windows xp is not loading and it says windows did not start succesfully. A recent hardware or software change might have caused this. When i try to start it on safe mode it says a problem has been detected and windows has shut down to prevent damage to the computer.
I've tried to install Windows Xp Pro on my raid 0 array (2 x 320Gb Seagate drives), but I can't get Xp to recognize it. The raid option is enabled in the bios and when the setup ask for it, I load the SATA/RAID drivers from Gygabyte but it only allow me to see the other 2 non-raid sata drives. I've setup the array with the Intel tool in my bios (Gygabyte 965P-DQ6, F3 bios) and it suposed to be up and running. In fact, I can see it when I boot into the Windows Xp installed on my other drive.
I have a laptop that is about 3.5 years old - out of warranty of course. I messed something up, badly. I would like to re-install Windows XP and start fresh however. I can't find the CD that supposedly came with the system. So i have Windows XP Home on the computer already, and it works for the most part. But i need to start fresh. But without the CD, i'm stuck. (no hidden partitions, no restore on the harddrive). It's a Dell 700m. I can run to Staples and buy a WinXP Upgrade CD for $99. Will this work on my system? I don't want to spend any more time trying to fix my system - i've tried just about everythng and quite frankly, my time is worth more than the cost of the program. So what do you think? Will a store bought WinXP Home UPGRADE disc do the trick?
my friend has a gateway with operating system 2000..he is a complete novice and messed up his system..No virus protection.Basicly about all he can do is email and send cards..99% of the sites that he wants he's unable to get...My question is : Is it possible to get rid of his system and install a newer one and start from fresh? Thank you very much.
My computer was locked down by microsoft due to not activating and for some reason i couldnt activate it over the phone. So i decided to , reformat my computer with the Windows XP Professional SP3 on this site and the XP Gamer's edition if the first one didnt work. So i installed the first one and it seemed to have worked perfectly, but when it restarted my computer, it went through the whole first step AGAIN. i thought that it might be normal so i kept going through it. Then it went through it AGAIN, now i knew something was up
I made xp pro install on a usb sd card, it install fine but go to boot it gives me the blue screen of death with stop:0x0000007B (0XF7A0A524, 0XC0000034, 0X00000000, 0X00000000) it will go in safe mode fine, I made xp pro like xp enbedid, I would like to know what this means, I know 0x0000007B is a drive eror and could xp be changing the propertis of while it boots
Some old BASIC programs to run that's why I decided to install Win98 on the other partition of my hard disk.Is it possible to install 98 if I already have XP?
I recently bought a new computer and had windows XP installed as well as having Norton AntiVirus program installed (came with a package). Now, when I try installing a HP printer the installation CD does not work but when I try it on my laptop it does work. Could it be the norton blocking the CD installation? What would I have to do in order to fix this problem.
Goal: To install windows on an IDE drive, located on Primary IDE Master. Problem: When booting from the windows cd, it will do the initial install just fine (when it's in the CMD looking bootup). Then when it finishes and restarts the computer, it will boot into the exact same 'installing windows' setup screen. It will never get 'into' windows and 'continue' the setup via the GUI like usual (in which case it would give an approx time left for install).Troubleshooting Tried: If I take the windows cd out on that reboot (right after the first install), it will just display an error regarding "No System Disk" (forgot the exact error). The only thing it wants to do is boot off the windows cd and reinstall all over again. This is on a new computer build.
decided to remove the battery from my motherboard hoping to reset some bios settings but on doing this I pulled out some wires, that where just under the battery by mistake theres five speghetti looking wires, no idea where they go. there is two places i can put them under the battery or beside it ,but no sure how, looks like this :::.: and there is a identical one beside it. one connection with two holes has Reset SW written on it, another two hole one has HDD LEED, and M/B SW, then two with one hole each green and white wire, help hate spaghetti. I was going to remove the battery for a few hours, then try to do a clean install, instead i let all hell loose.
I tried to install a operating system disk xp pro which was supposed to be an unnattended install, but I wish I had attended now, I dont know what its done but when I came back it had a message 'setup cannot copy the file irmk7w2k to skip this file press escape to quit setup press f3 to retry press enter' I decided to quit setup and run my own os disk again I have used this disk plenty of times but this time it came up with the same message that I got on the other disk. So I thought something had been left on the harddrive so I put my wipe clean cd in to clean the hard drive and then I formatted and I was still getting the same message on setup. How can this be happening and how do I fix it? Thanks. I have an os on now but it is corrupted and I cannot get online there are plenty of files missing because I pressed skip this file plenty of times just to get some sort of operating system on. I really need help I am typing this on another pc.
I have both windows 2000 and windows xp on my computer. The windows xp is a recent install and has no programs associated with it.I would like to uninstall or deleat the windows xp without formatting and keep the windows 2000
I have a laptop without a CD/DVD drive.I want to install operating system in it. How do install? Also, on the network port, the PIN slot is small.why so?
So I have tried EVERYTHING to get an operating system onto my Acer 3610 laptop. It has a brand new IDE Hard Drive, brand new RAM chips.
I have tried to load XP by using the standard install disc. I have tried to pre-load the i386 folder onto the HD and run through DOS. I have tried to install DOS 7.1. I have tried to install XP using a Win98 Boot Disc. I have tried to install using Hiren's Boot CD.
Every time I try there is an unknown issue. When directly booting from XP cd gives a "LINE 1026 txtsetup.sif error." DOS 7.1 has a "CPU Error - Incorrect OPCODE." I have tried using another laptop to start the XP install process, then move the hard drive back to the Acer when XP setup reaches the "Remove DISC and restart computer" portion.
I cannot seem to figure out what the issue is. I have seen posts saying several of these are hardware issues, although every removable piece of hardware is either replaced or have been reset on the laptop.
A friend asked me to to install Windows XP home edition on a computer that has Windows XP professional on it. The Windows XP Professional is not an authentic edition so my friend has purchased the Windows XP Home Edition. How can this be safely installed and what should I particularily watch out for

A fresh installation of windows xp. When I am having installed XP, then it comes to installing various software, is it necessary to allways do a reboot after each installatoin, even if the software does not request it. Most software does not seem to request it, is there any benefit in rebooting, or conversely can any damage possibly be done by not rebooting and then reinstalling another software without rebooting for the first one that doesn't specifically ask for it. My next question is this. If I use an image to restore my operating system, is this in any way of a lesser quality than if I do a manual installation using the installation xp disc.
Boot to install Windows XP from Fedora 8. I do not wish to dual boot. I am new to installing operating systems and am not sure where to start. I hear I should check my BIOS setting first? but am not sure how to do that.
i bought new XP Home edition Cd and i installed it and in the halfway through it failed to identified some few files like chkr.dll , rvse.dll, bckg.dll i found tht all those files are related to Games (Heart, pinball, freecell )so i thought to reinstall the Window Xp but when i bought the cd..the retailer told that i can only use the license key for 3 times since its genuine and another thing is that i found in websites that "OEM license only allows the copy to be activated and used on the one, single, specific set of hardware it was sold for. It can be reinstalled and reactivated as often as you like
Currently i have 2 hard drives, a 40gb and a 160gb. I have winxp on the 40 bg (single c: partition) as well as some files, and data and music on the 160 gb (about 50 or so gb full one partition-F. I want to take the F drive, the bigger one, and put it in my new computer. also, i want to install winxp PRO on the F: drive. so,can i add another partition on there now (so i dont lose files- i have insufficient room to backup F to C) and install xp pro, can i move the harddrive later and install xppro? basically, i want to lose no data and am unsure i have enough room to backup F, is there a way or program i can use to add a nother partition to an already formatted disk, what is the best way to do this?
