Program C:WINDOWSexplorer.exe abnormal program termination However, when I go into the 'folder' options and select 'view each folder in a separate window', it works fine (But obviously it's irritating that so many folders get opened!) I have tried to use a number of programs such as HijackThis!, lspFix, Regedit, Regcure, Runtifix, etc. but to no avail.

Mar 11, 2006I've searched the numbers but came up with nothing.The runtime 216 error worried me since it usually is a virus so I ran two scans(antivir-which I normally use and symatec) both show the pc is clean.The boxes only occur when the last window is closed. The first box is an explorer application error 0x018638ae reference memory 0x0197cca4 memory could not be read.After that box is closed the runtime error 216 at 018638AE pops up.

Apr 13, 2006I have a Win XP SP2 laptop and any software that uses installshield will not install. I get different errors depending on the particular program I'm trying to install. One example is "1607: Unable to install installshield scripting runtime". Everything else on the computer seems to be running fine. I've searched the web extensively for answers to this problem and I'm down to either reinstalling the Installshield program or reinstalling Win XP. Does anyone have info on how to solve this problem? Or does anyone know where to find the installshield program so I can reinstall it? Reinstalling Windows obviously has it's drawbacks.

Then I shut down the system and started to work the next day. Every thing is perfectly ok except for one thing. In Windows Explorer, on any folder or drive if I double click or open I get a crash. Dec 5, 2007After suffering months of freezing PC and blue screens (primarily the dreaded kernel stack error. I have done tried all the recovery tricks from here and MS website, done chkdsk /f & /r repeatedly over four days without using the PC in between, and all the other stuff from here and Microsoft. Bought an expensive Reg cleaner and run it repeatedly. No luck. No recently installed soft or hardware. New Dell desktop. 1 year of trouble-free life until this. I now boot from the recovery XP CD (it includes SP2) to try to reformat the whole shebang and it gets as far as loading setup files OK, then as usual tries to start load windows installation and ... blue screen. STOP error 0x0000007B (OXF78D2524 OXC0000034, OX00000000, OX00000000).
Decided to buy a new HDD and install XP on that. (3 weeks from Dell!) and in machine. Old one disconnected. Tried installing XP from disk. It stalls at exactly the same moment as before (loads up preliminary files, gets to ""starting Windows" and then the dreaded blue screen with the same error message as before. 0X0000007B (OXF78D2524, 0XC0000034, 0X00000000, 0X00000000). So presumably not HD (although always good to have one). Have downloaded Memtest and run it for 24 hours. No RAM errors reported.
