Whenever I try to open a folder within a folder through Windows explorer, I get this message: Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library Runtime Error! Program C:WINDOWSexplorer.exe abnormal program termination However, when I go into the 'folder' options and select 'view each folder in a separate window', it works fine (But obviously it's irritating that so many folders get opened!) I have tried to use a number of programs such as HijackThis!, lspFix, Regedit, Regcure, Runtifix, etc. but to no avail.

I need to use an old dos problem for reference only. My operating systems is windows XP. Everytime I do the .exe file I get an error message that says Cobol runtime library not installed.
After i ran some programs in safe mode to get rid of viruses, this message came up when rebooting into normal mode."Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library Buffer overrun detected program:C:WindowExplorer.Exe A buffer overrun has been detected which has corrupted the program's internal state. The program cannot safely continue execution and must now be terminated. After clicking ok, the desktop icons disappear, then return, and the message occurs again. Does anyone know what this means.
Been having a problem with java using 100% cpu so uninstalled java 1.6.0_05 and downloaded the offline installer for JRE 1.6.0_06. Also got rid of java entries in the registry,
I have tried endless # of times but whenever i try to download/install Java, the installation thing starts and then almost within 20 seconds I get a dialog box with the following text:
This installation package could not be opened. Verify that the package exists and that you can access it, or contact the application vendor to verify that this is a valid Windows Installer package.
I have a Win XP SP2 laptop and any software that uses installshield will not install. I get different errors depending on the particular program I'm trying to install. One example is "1607: Unable to install installshield scripting runtime". Everything else on the computer seems to be running fine. I've searched the web extensively for answers to this problem and I'm down to either reinstalling the Installshield program or reinstalling Win XP. Does anyone have info on how to solve this problem? Or does anyone know where to find the installshield program so I can reinstall it? Reinstalling Windows obviously has it's drawbacks.
I have been trying to install some software for a web cam for quite some time now. However everytime I do try it will begin installing and then installshield wizard will minimise itself and stay that way.I have tried everything i can think of like installing in safe mode, turning off anti virus and all that jazz. When i try installing in safe mode it comes up with a different error saying: 1607 unable to install installshieldwizars scripting runtime.
i've tried system recovery, system restore, deleteing the stupid thing and downloading it, i've tried deteling anything that might have ANYTHING to do with the program.i also tried to download KERNEL32.dll from somewhere to replace the one in my WINDOWS/SYSTEM file but they wont let me.
I m using windows xp I can't download Yahoo Messenger. A two step process, it gets stuck on the second process. Right after I hit the second "run" button it tells me: "Could not load the DLL library. The specified module could not be found." When I go under system 32 I find a ton of dll files.I am pretty new to computers. I asked a friend who isn't sure and another suggested googling DLL, which is what brought me here. One of the websites said i would find the files in the System 32 folder and so looked in there. Now I am writing you.
I keep getting this message, cannot load library topsearch dll. Am I missing something? I dont know what it is and if it should be in my computer. I've tried to read up on it but still do not know if it is something that I should have or not
I've just bought an MP3 player and I've installed the software that is packaged with it. The program searched my HDD for all types of audio files and added them to my Library. What happened next was a complete blunder on my part: what I did was go through each file in my Library and delete those that I didn't want and keep those I did. I didn't pay any attention to what I was deleting, and I believe what I did has to do with a disk problem I'm havin'. I don't think my computer recognizes my D drive anymore (excuse me, please, I don't know much-- I mean the drive that plays DVDs/CDs). When I view My Computer, the D drive isn't displayed. Another example: when I'm in WMP and tryin' to copy tracks from a CD onto my HDD, there isn't a D drive listed to upload from.
I have Windows 2000 SP4 installed in my computer. I am getting this error "The dynamic library MSVCP60.dll could not be found in the specified path" This is happening only when i am trying to use some .exe files.

If you have moved your music around on your hard drives, Windows Media Player continues to add new entries into it's library instead of modifying the existing ones. This means that you will now have multiple entries for the same song, half of which will not work now because you have moved the files to their new location. To delete the current library and build a new one, do the following:1. Close Windows Media Player, wait about 3 seconds for the database to close.2. Using "My Computer", navigate to the following folder:F (or whatever drive is appropriate for you):Documents and SettingsAll UsersApplication DataMicrosoftMedia Index3. Delete the "wmplibrary....db" file here. This is not your actual music, only the database which Windows Media Player uses as a listing.4. Start Windows Media Player5. Hit "F3" and enter the location where you have moved your music to. If it is on muliple drives, check "All Drives". Let it finish. You're Done! All the old listings will now be gone, and you will only have the new accurate ones.

One of my friends told me that it can take a little longer on some computers so I let it stay on all night long it was still on the same thing when I got up. I've tried every thing that I know. Everything seems to be working right also I was wondering I've got a new CPU coming that I'm going to install would I need to reinstall windows if I get it to install on this CPU?
I've searched the numbers but came up with nothing. The runtime 216 error worried me since it usually is a virus so I ran two scans(antivir-which I normally use and symatec) both show the pc is clean. The boxes only occur when the last window is closed. The first box is an explorer application error 0x018638ae reference memory 0x0197cca4 memory could not be read. After that box is closed the runtime error 216 at 018638AE pops up.

When I try to double-click my folders I get "Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Error Program: CWINDOWSexplorer.exe abnormal program termination" when I press ok, desktop icons disappears for a while and then appears.
My problem is this error msg appeared a coupla days ago, I googled it and read some info on it, which seemed pretty complicated and every one I read seemed to give different reasons and solutions for this problem The only problem i've noticed since getting this msg is that it takes about three or four attempts to get IE to open (keep getting error msg - Internet Explorer has encountered a problem and needs to close blah blah blah!), but once i get the browser fully loaded it seems to be ok I read up a bit on the microsoft website which suggested updating security (which I always do), but it also offered a hotfix whatever this is, I dont even think its fully developed yet.
