when i go to print a document on word it freezes and i have to close down word this also happens on other programs aswell including notepad. I have tried to go in to the control panel to sort it out but when i click on printer and faxes it just freezes and i have to close it again using the task manager.

When I click on a Word document (on my Desktop, for example), it seems to take a long time for the document to open. Yet if I have Word open and click on the document it opens instantaneously. Similarly, when I right click on a document, photo, spreadsheet file, it takes what seems a long time for the menu (Open, Run as, Send to, Delete, etc..) to open.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI have seen this on multiple printers.Canon S450, HP etc when you go to delete what appears to be a currently printing document out of the printers queue. You can see that it says deleting but it just sits there and never goes away. Then you can't print anything else.You try shutting off the printer, rebooting the machine and it doesn't work.How the heck can you force this document to really be deleted and free up the printer?

Whenever, i click on a microsoft word document I get Windows Fax and Image viewer. The only way i can get it to open in word is to use this route. Right click the file>click on open with<choose Microsoft Word. This is just really annoying and i believe its related to the patch
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have a Dell Inspiron 8500 with XP Pro that I am trying to connect to an HP Laserjet 4P. The 4P tests OK on a W-98 machine, so I know it and the cable are not the problem. When I try to print, I get no output, and a message that the document failed to print. I've tried Word, Notepad, and DOS, and no results. When I interrogate the printer from the print dialog box, it tells me that the Services Directory is unavailable. Tried uninstalling and reinstalling the printer, and re-booting. The computer prints normally to an HP 3100 laserjet and a newer HP injet printer as well. I can't seem to find anything in the Help and Knowledgebase to tell me where to go. I did try following instructions to investigate the "printer permissions", but stalled out when I right-clicked on the printer and there was no "Security" tab anywhere in the dialog box as described.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI recently had my computer reformatted. Unfortunately, it still has some issues. The first problem that popped up was that my computer "froze" after I clicked to print a Word doc. The screen turned blue (of course, my first thought was I had the blue screen of death), and I couldn't do anything with it, other than a hard shut down. It came back up fine and worked "okay" the rest of the day, although somewhat sluggishly. The next day, I tried opening a Word doc. and the screen turned purple and again a freeze. Hard shut down again, and things worked "okay" the rest of the day.
The next day, I was opening something (can't remember now if it was a Word doc.), the screen blinked and turned the color of our home page, which is a sort of rust. I called our tech person, described the issues, and he suggested that I had a problem with Dreamweaver 8. I uninstalled it, as per his suggestions, and reinstalled it. Things seemed to be working fine, but I now get this error:

Error in TSafeMailItem - MAPI_E_CALL_FAILED. I'm wondering if it could be an issue with Spam Fighter, which I downloaded as per the tech guy's instructions. I didn't get the error message until after reinstalling DW, then checked my email. I do NOT open spam, and the sites I usually go to are safe. I'm not saying I couldn't have gone some where that wasn't, but AVG hasn't found any issues, nor has Spybot.
When I try to open Microsoft Office Word 2003 a window pops up that says window installer then it says installing microsoft office word feature. It stops half way and another window pops up that says Installation error file not found. A required installation file SKU112.CAB could not be found. Original installation source required. If you installed Microsoft Office Standard edition 2003 from cd please insert your cd.
If you installed Microsoft office standard edition 2003 over your computer network please browse to the installation source on your computer. Also a window popped up that says Microsoft word has not been installed for the current user. Please run setup to install application. I don't have the cd its lost. This just started doing this about a month ago. I can't open any files through microsoft office word or power point.
I have Windows XP Pro SP2 as my OS. When I try to save a document directly from Word onto my DVD I get the message that is read-only. The OS does see the DVD drive because Roxio can burn to the drive. I prefer saving directly to the the drive from Word. What could be the problem?

The system is supposed to have Windows XP resident, but I'm not finding any of it. Also, I want to be able to convert old Word Perfect files to Word -- and vice versa, but have thus far been unsuccesaful in figuring out how to do it.

This time switching off for 10 minutes and then back on had no effect.I have been trying most of today to correct things without success. View 4 Replies View RelatedI previously owned a Lexmark Z25 printer and up to a certain point, it was printing ok. Then it abruptly stopped printing any pages. It sounded as if it was getting the signal from the computer, but nothing would print. Rather than buy new cartridges, which would have cost more than a new printer, I bought a Dell 720. Now, the color prints fine, but I cannot get the black to print. The cartridges are just about full with only a small amount out of the black cartridge.

Since reconnecting printer, the print icon button reverts to bringing up the print properties box as happens with going File - print. There is only one printer attached - it is shown in "Printers and Faxes" with a tick. There is nowhere to check it as the default printer as it is the only printer.How can I make the print icon button just do straight default prints again?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have an old Sony VAIO (running Win Xp) that I am using a print server. The VAIO is connected to a HP PSC. The VAIO is on a wireless network along with two other laptops. One laptop is running Win Xp and the other is running Vista. Everything was working fine as far as printing went until I reinstalled the OS on the Win Xp machine (same OS). Previously the VAIO would go offline due to hibernation and so if I tried to print something from the Xp machine, it would get in the queue and get printed when I turned the VAIO on. Now the print jobs are not getting in a queue when the VAIO is offline.I don't know what I did right before and so I don't know how to remedy the problem.

CONTROL PANEL> PRINTERS> OPEN and it says its printing just fine but it isnt Its in the front usb hub and tried the rear it dont make any differnence. The printer is on and its got paper etc etc.
Earlier today, when logging on to my profile, I saw a message box that I think said something along the lines of "Windows cannot update your profile". The message box also had a timer counting down from 25. I clicked "OK" on the message box and proceeded to my desktop. However, once my profile was loaded, all items i My Documents were no longer there. In addition, it seemed as if several Properties were set back to their default states (i.e. my background picture was changed, my theme was changed etc.) Also, the only folder that now exists in the place of My Documents is "C:Documents and Settings TEMPMy Documents".
View 6 Replies View RelatedI recently received a military registration form which I had to download to my documents. It downloaded successfully. The problem is, it will not let me open it. When I double click on the ICON I get an error message. To wit:"The command cannot be performed because a dialog box is open. Click OK, and then close open dialog boxes to continue." I do have Norton Antivirus 2005 and a Pop Up Blocker activated. If this is the problem must I deleted them both before I can read my document or, being a beginner, am I simply missing something obvious.

View 2 Replies View RelatedUnder My Computer you will notice a new folder called shared documents. Microsoft has made it easy to share files and folders over a network by dragging icons into it. If you wish to remove this folder from My computer all you have to do is delete a key from the windows registry.
I have an IBM ThinkCentre that was the wife's. Cleaning it up to sell, and I've renamed the Administrator's name, removed all software, changed the computer name for my network, in essence, getting it ready to sell. But in the Documents and Settings folder is a sub-folder with her name. When I try to change the name XP says no, it's a system file. Short of hacking the registry, how can I change the name.
I recently changed my text handler from Notepad to Metapad cause I like it better. Could that be why it dissappeared from my right click menu? Anyhow, anyone know where this is in the registry. Oh yeah, I also have TWEAK UI but for some reason, in the templates, I can't create a new template there. I tried with Notepad.exe, and also with Wordpad aka Write.exe but I get an error message saying: "This document cannot be used as a document template."
I also have FRESH UI and in Fresh UI, I selected "New" context menu and added extention ".txt" (without the quotes) and it confirmed that I sucessfully added the extention but it doesn't show up in the menu, even after three reboots. This is strange because it was always there, the option to create a .txt document in the right clickNew but it just disappeared.
One more thing, as per some website, I created a folder in Windows called "ShellNew" and put a blank text file in it from Notepad and then did some registry editing in HKEY classes root/ .txt as suggested from this website and created a new string etc blah blah, where you point to the SHELLNEW folder where the text file was but this did not work either.
All my folders in My Documents just display as a plain yellow folder (default folder), whereas the My Music, My Pictures folders had the personalised icons on them.
View 2 Replies View RelatedWhile typing a docment, a sound will occur and I will lose my curser. This causes me to put the arrow where I want to type and left click to reset the cuser. This incident seems to occur every so often at about a minute or use. This is annoying and I do not know why this is occurring. My operating system is XP. There is no error message just a sound. May I hear from you at your earliest convince.
