I have seen this on multiple printers.Canon S450, HP etc when you go to delete what appears to be a currently printing document out of the printers queue. You can see that it says deleting but it just sits there and never goes away. Then you can't print anything else.You try shutting off the printer, rebooting the machine and it doesn't work.How the heck can you force this document to really be deleted and free up the printer?
View 7 RepliesAt start of each session first doc from any app prints normally 2nd and subsequent docs stall in print queue for 2 to 3 minutes. Have gone through HP who suggest that problem is with spooler. Can't find any updates on MS sites.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI dont know if i've got this in the right forum but i've got a WinXP Pro Machine so thought i'd try it here.The problem is that my print queue seems to retain the print jobs although the print jobs have already been printed out (i've seen it retain jobs from 5 days ago). I happens from all sorts of programs.My PC is acting a print server (ie, the printer is connected to my PC via Parallel and i have shared my install of this printer).In the print queue, the status indicates "sent to printer" and Pages "x/x - eg 3/3" however the print jobs remains in the queue and do not disappear unless i manually do a "cancel". If i were to turn off and then on the PC, all these print jobs will print out again without any user interaction.So, can anyone tell me if this is a driver issue or is it something to do with the printer or Parallel port configuration.As far as i know, i've got "bi-directional support" selected but i'm still to find out what modes i've got parallel set to eg. EPP or ECP or both.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a dell 2400 series PC running XP home edition. My Dell A920 printer stopped working. When I uninstalled and tried to reinstall it, I couldn't get it to reinstall properly. I used the original CD and I also downloaded a driver from dell.com. Neither worked. I tried to install a new Samsung ML-2010 printer. I used the included CD. It finished the install and when I tried to print the test page, it wouldn't print. It appears in the print queue as "printing" but never prints. When I reboot, I see a message on the system tray saying new hardware detected, there was trouble on the install and new device may not work correctly. I tried to do a repair from the enclosed Samsung CD but it didn't fix the problem. When it tried to print the test page, it said "not responding" in the blue bar across the top of the page

I have tried to go in to the control panel to sort it out but when i click on printer and faxes it just freezes and i have to close it again using the task manager.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have a Dell Inspiron 8500 with XP Pro that I am trying to connect to an HP Laserjet 4P. The 4P tests OK on a W-98 machine, so I know it and the cable are not the problem. When I try to print, I get no output, and a message that the document failed to print. I've tried Word, Notepad, and DOS, and no results. When I interrogate the printer from the print dialog box, it tells me that the Services Directory is unavailable. Tried uninstalling and reinstalling the printer, and re-booting. The computer prints normally to an HP 3100 laserjet and a newer HP injet printer as well. I can't seem to find anything in the Help and Knowledgebase to tell me where to go. I did try following instructions to investigate the "printer permissions", but stalled out when I right-clicked on the printer and there was no "Security" tab anywhere in the dialog box as described.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI have 3 print queues that are retaining the printed jobs in the queue and every now and again the damn thing prints all the job again. I have checked that the keep printed jobs button is NOT checked/selected, but the queue acts ilke it is selected to keep printed jobs. I have 125 printer queues and only 3 act like this and they are set up identical to the others. I have reconfigured this twice on all 3 and they still act like they are set to keep printed jobs in the queue.Anyone seen this and know of a solution, on the Microsoft site I am seeing posts but not a single reply about how to either run a job to clear them out a couple times a day or fix this so they act as configured. To NOT keep printed jobs in the queue.

This time switching off for 10 minutes and then back on had no effect.I have been trying most of today to correct things without success. I then copied it onto a floppy, put the floppy in my friends PC - same result as before
View 4 Replies View RelatedI previously owned a Lexmark Z25 printer and up to a certain point, it was printing ok. Then it abruptly stopped printing any pages. It sounded as if it was getting the signal from the computer, but nothing would print. Rather than buy new cartridges, which would have cost more than a new printer, I bought a Dell 720. Now, the color prints fine, but I cannot get the black to print. The cartridges are just about full with only a small amount out of the black cartridge.

View 3 Replies View RelatedAll worked as normal Printer icon would print automatically with default print settings; File -Print would bring up print properties dialogue box to select options.Unhooked printer from laptop. Since reconnecting printer, the print icon button reverts to bringing up the print properties box as happens with going File - print. There is only one printer attached - it is shown in "Printers and Faxes" with a tick. There is nowhere to check it as the default printer as it is the only printer.How can I make the print icon button just do straight default prints again?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have an old Sony VAIO (running Win Xp) that I am using a print server. The VAIO is connected to a HP PSC. The VAIO is on a wireless network along with two other laptops. One laptop is running Win Xp and the other is running Vista. Everything was working fine as far as printing went until I reinstalled the OS on the Win Xp machine (same OS). Previously the VAIO would go offline due to hibernation and so if I tried to print something from the Xp machine, it would get in the queue and get printed when I turned the VAIO on. Now the print jobs are not getting in a queue when the VAIO is offline.I don't know what I did right before and so I don't know how to remedy the problem.

CONTROL PANEL> PRINTERS> OPEN and it says its printing just fine but it isnt Its in the front usb hub and tried the rear it dont make any differnence. The printer is on and its got paper etc etc.
Earlier today, when logging on to my profile, I saw a message box that I think said something along the lines of "Windows cannot update your profile". The message box also had a timer counting down from 25. I clicked "OK" on the message box and proceeded to my desktop. However, once my profile was loaded, all items i My Documents were no longer there. In addition, it seemed as if several Properties were set back to their default states (i.e. my background picture was changed, my theme was changed etc.) Also, the only folder that now exists in the place of My Documents is "C:Documents and Settings TEMPMy Documents".
View 6 Replies View RelatedI recently received a military registration form which I had to download to my documents. It downloaded successfully. The problem is, it will not let me open it. When I double click on the ICON I get an error message. To wit:"The command cannot be performed because a dialog box is open. Click OK, and then close open dialog boxes to continue." I do have Norton Antivirus 2005 and a Pop Up Blocker activated. If this is the problem must I deleted them both before I can read my document or, being a beginner, am I simply missing something obvious.

View 2 Replies View RelatedUnder My Computer you will notice a new folder called shared documents. Microsoft has made it easy to share files and folders over a network by dragging icons into it. If you wish to remove this folder from My computer all you have to do is delete a key from the windows registry.
I have an IBM ThinkCentre that was the wife's. Cleaning it up to sell, and I've renamed the Administrator's name, removed all software, changed the computer name for my network, in essence, getting it ready to sell. But in the Documents and Settings folder is a sub-folder with her name. When I try to change the name XP says no, it's a system file. Short of hacking the registry, how can I change the name.
I recently changed my text handler from Notepad to Metapad cause I like it better. Could that be why it dissappeared from my right click menu? Anyhow, anyone know where this is in the registry. Oh yeah, I also have TWEAK UI but for some reason, in the templates, I can't create a new template there. I tried with Notepad.exe, and also with Wordpad aka Write.exe but I get an error message saying: "This document cannot be used as a document template."
I also have FRESH UI and in Fresh UI, I selected "New" context menu and added extention ".txt" (without the quotes) and it confirmed that I sucessfully added the extention but it doesn't show up in the menu, even after three reboots. This is strange because it was always there, the option to create a .txt document in the right clickNew but it just disappeared.
One more thing, as per some website, I created a folder in Windows called "ShellNew" and put a blank text file in it from Notepad and then did some registry editing in HKEY classes root/ .txt as suggested from this website and created a new string etc blah blah, where you point to the SHELLNEW folder where the text file was but this did not work either.
All my folders in My Documents just display as a plain yellow folder (default folder), whereas the My Music, My Pictures folders had the personalised icons on them.
View 2 Replies View RelatedWhile typing a docment, a sound will occur and I will lose my curser. This causes me to put the arrow where I want to type and left click to reset the cuser. This incident seems to occur every so often at about a minute or use. This is annoying and I do not know why this is occurring. My operating system is XP. There is no error message just a sound. May I hear from you at your earliest convince.
