I have accidentally deleted the option of creating a new text document via the right mouse click New > Text Document. Can it be restored in the Registry? without using the Restore option, as much work and new programs have been added since?
I tried to access my folder which includes various text documents of my job but the folder won't open. I did Disk De fragment but it still won't work. I also tried to delete this folder cause at least I would control these files from the recycle bin and the folder won't get deleted.
Has there been a new Windows update that locks the text and document files from people in other accounts from opening them? When I place a text or document file from my account into any other account, they cannot open them as they used to be able to. The last file that I can open between accounts was created on 11/29/2006.This is not just limited to Microsoft Word for Windows, but for files made in Excel, WordPad, and NotePad txt files as well. I think it should be easy to check, for it's probably a recent Windows Update, but the trouble is that I recently had to format my hard drive and start over, so I don't know which of the 200 or so it is that I had to download. I am hoping that all I need to do is to uninstall it.If this was an Windows Update, then I need to uninstall it because I need to be able to send people files and have them be able to read them. The exact error message for a document created in Word is: "Word cannot open the document: User does not have access privileges (C:...MyDocuments(name of file).doc)".I am running Windows XP Professional on a home made computer with 1024 MB RAM, and an AMD Athlon 64 3500+ processor.
I have Windows XP home w/SP2 and I am buffaloed. I thought I was a knowledgable user, but I have been trying to stop a program from autorunning. I have deleted the value in the registry under the "RUN" key of H_KEY LOCAL_MACHINE, and CURRENT-USER, then I exit, and as soon as I open regedit again, the values are back like they were, ignoring my deletion. How do I save the changes I make to text strings in the XP registry? I have administrator priveleges.I miss Windows 3.1, where you only had sys.ini and win.ini to fool with, and when you changed something it stayed changed.
It is possible to display the version of Windows in the lower right corner of your desktop. This requires a modification in the Windows Registry. Note: You cannot decide what text you want to appear; it's predefined, based on the version of Windows you are running. For example, the text for Windows XP Professional with Service Pack 2 will be along the lines of:
Windows XP Professional Build 2600.xpsp_sp2_rtm.040803-2158 (Service Pack 2)
Procedure: 1) Click the Start button, click Run, type regedit and click OK 2) On the left-hand side, navigate to (and highlight) HKEY_CURRENT_USERControl PanelDesktop 3) On the right-hand side, locate PaintDesktopVersion and double-click it 4) In the pop-up window, change the data to 1 and click OK Note: 0 = Hide Windows version from desktop 1 = Show Windows version on desktop 5) Close the Windows Registry Editor as well as your other programs and reboot (or log off and log back in).
I want to know if there is possible to put a specific text over the desktop and when the user change the wallpaper the text continues appearing at the same position (basically I want to do it on Windows XP).People says that an image worth more than thousands of words... Ok this is a screenshot of what I want to do
Yesterday I used a system rescue disk to fix a problem with my sound drivers. The type of rescue was a non-destructive one - one that keeps all your files and programs but re-installs the original operating system and pre-installed software.I was running SP2 before the install and the rescue CD i have has installed SP1. Now the computer seems to be running a bit of both SP1 and SP2. I can't start the system restore program because the System Restore service keeps failing to start.I can't do a complete install/uninstall of SP2 because the Microsoft Installer Service also fails to start. I also get numerous errors at start up with processes that are used by my antivirus and printer. Could anybody suggest a way to fix this, maybe to install/reinstall SP2 without needing the MSI Service?
A friend of mine called himself fixing my PC, he dumped my hard drive and installed windows 2000 server. I have been trying to use my recover disks to set it back to specs with windows XP back on it. It will not read from the discs and boots up as normal. I do have a different CD drive but I didnt think that would affect the reading of the recovery discs. How can I get my PC restored?
I just restored my computer to an earlier date and know stuff is worse then it was before now my restore point comes up blank can't even get my help and support to come up what did I do? how can I fix this problem?
my sis has a relatively new computer with windows xp installed...after using it for a couple of weeks she was unable to get to google...she system restored it and took it back a week and it was fine until yesterday...she turned it on..hit explorer and got a messege saying cannot find server...the strange thing is she is still able to download from a site...she ran a virus scan...nothing...adaware ...nothing.
Hello all My fathers' answer to any little thing that's bugging him on his computer is to run the QuickRestore CD that came with his computer - but he compulsively saves all his business receipts and cannot learn how to back up and he didn't think about that before he used the CD, and now he's looking to ME to see if anything can be recovered. I have a file recovery program that the kind folks here taught me how to use, but I've never come up against anything this extreme. From your experience, can "things" (what he cares most about is his aol huge filing cabinet and favorite places) be recovered under these circumstances? He has said he would be willing to physically bring the HD in to a lab if necessary. If someone could take a moment to write back,
IBM computer and she used my recovery disc to restore her computer to the factory settings. I have a lenovo so the disc reset the computer but didn't work completely. It will load but it stops at a black screen and says "We're sorry but Windows did not load successfully."
I restored a backup of the "documents and settings" to a new install of XP but when I try to access the primary (preffered customer folder I get C:Documents And SettingsPreffered Customer is not accessible. Access is denied'. This folder originally asked for a password, which was blank (ie. hit enter).
I keep getting read ahead falures on various drives and partitions. What can I do? I've already restored several times, it then goes away for a bit, only to return. I contantly use chkdsk and clean the registery and keep defrag up to date. Do I really need to format and reinstall XP, or is there an easier route?
When a system restore is required, do the document files, such as word, get restored to the restore point date? I have files that have been amended since the last known good configuration date. Don't want to lose information.
I have two hard drives connected to my system. I will refer to them as A and B. I had previously taken a Ghost image of drive A and wanted to restore this image to the drive. However, both the drive were connected to the system when the restore occurred and the image got restored to drive B. Hence I have lost the data I had on drive B. The operating system in use is Windows XP. The version of Ghost used is Norton Ghost 2001
I let a nephew used my computer, and I found a lot of porn stuff in the temporary Internet files. This is my office computer and lately, I had been notice strange noises, and like something is starting (?) This morning the PC cannot find my DVD drive, I used the "restored" function, and it founded. Need some help to make sure I don't have "something" that it's not supposed to be there.
Earlier today, when logging on to my profile, I saw a message box that I think said something along the lines of "Windows cannot update your profile". The message box also had a timer counting down from 25. I clicked "OK" on the message box and proceeded to my desktop. However, once my profile was loaded, all items i My Documents were no longer there. In addition, it seemed as if several Properties were set back to their default states (i.e. my background picture was changed, my theme was changed etc.) Also, the only folder that now exists in the place of My Documents is "C:Documents and Settings TEMPMy Documents".
I recently received a military registration form which I had to download to my documents. It downloaded successfully. The problem is, it will not let me open it. When I double click on the ICON I get an error message. To wit:"The command cannot be performed because a dialog box is open. Click OK, and then close open dialog boxes to continue." I do have Norton Antivirus 2005 and a Pop Up Blocker activated. If this is the problem must I deleted them both before I can read my document or, being a beginner, am I simply missing something obvious.
I have deleted a document from my recycling bin a couple of days ago. I use a Dell XP Home pc. Is there any way to get that document back after it was deleted? I doubt it but thought I'd ask around
I have scaned a document, and saved it like xx.jpg, but i have deleted it from recycle bin too..so can anybody tell me how can i recover this document cause i need it very much..P.S i tryed it to recover with recover my files program, but i cannot racover these files.
Under My Computer you will notice a new folder called shared documents. Microsoft has made it easy to share files and folders over a network by dragging icons into it. If you wish to remove this folder from My computer all you have to do is delete a key from the windows registry.
I have an IBM ThinkCentre that was the wife's. Cleaning it up to sell, and I've renamed the Administrator's name, removed all software, changed the computer name for my network, in essence, getting it ready to sell. But in the Documents and Settings folder is a sub-folder with her name. When I try to change the name XP says no, it's a system file. Short of hacking the registry, how can I change the name.
when i go to print a document on word it freezes and i have to close down word this also happens on other programs aswell including notepad. I have tried to go in to the control panel to sort it out but when i click on printer and faxes it just freezes and i have to close it again using the task manager.
I recently changed my text handler from Notepad to Metapad cause I like it better. Could that be why it dissappeared from my right click menu? Anyhow, anyone know where this is in the registry. Oh yeah, I also have TWEAK UI but for some reason, in the templates, I can't create a new template there. I tried with Notepad.exe, and also with Wordpad aka Write.exe but I get an error message saying: "This document cannot be used as a document template."
I also have FRESH UI and in Fresh UI, I selected "New" context menu and added extention ".txt" (without the quotes) and it confirmed that I sucessfully added the extention but it doesn't show up in the menu, even after three reboots. This is strange because it was always there, the option to create a .txt document in the right clickNew but it just disappeared.
One more thing, as per some website, I created a folder in Windows called "ShellNew" and put a blank text file in it from Notepad and then did some registry editing in HKEY classes root/ .txt as suggested from this website and created a new string etc blah blah, where you point to the SHELLNEW folder where the text file was but this did not work either.
All my folders in My Documents just display as a plain yellow folder (default folder), whereas the My Music, My Pictures folders had the personalised icons on them.
While typing a docment, a sound will occur and I will lose my curser. This causes me to put the arrow where I want to type and left click to reset the cuser. This incident seems to occur every so often at about a minute or use. This is annoying and I do not know why this is occurring. My operating system is XP. There is no error message just a sound. May I hear from you at your earliest convince.
Two identical Dell PCs each with XP Home SP1, and a different USB printer on each. Both printers behave the same.On booting the PC and printing a document, the first page may or may not print, but then the printer goes to Offline mode.
