Just installed xp on a computer that had previously had xp on it, but was running real slow, so I did a fresh install and now it will not boot up past the loading screen. I have tried using fdisk to erase the disk compleletly but it has not helped one bit.
View 8 RepliesI couldnt start up windows. It would hang at the windows loading screen and go no further. So I was told to try a repair-install. And thats where even more trouble has started. So I started to repair-install. During the Windows Install setup, it gets almost to the point of being completed, but gave me a blue screen error STOP message at around the "18 minutes left" mark. During "Registering components". It would do this every time at the same spot. So I searched a bit about how to solve the problem. One suggestion I found on the interwebs was to try it with only one stick of ram installed, I have four overall at 2gb. So I tried that, next time I boot up to the comp, it loads up the bios, and then goes to the black windows loading screen with the loading bar, then starts with a blue screen saying "Setup is being restarted" So I figure its restarting my windows installation since it never was completed, after that message, the screen goes black with a cursor, and stays that way forever. I immediately put all the ram back in, and no luck, same thing. I tested each individual ram stick, same thing, just goes black. So now, I can't even seem to re-install windows. Did my hard drive just crap out? Some hardware issue? Im already thinking about buying a new fresh hard drive, installing windows on there, and just moving all my files from the old hard drive over to the new one. Though that would be a pain, I really want to save my current drive! And all the data on it.

View 6 Replies View RelatedI have a Pentium 2.7gHz, and Radeon 9550. A short while ago, my Pc started to hang (at random times, usually when I first turned it on in the morning, it would hang at the XP Load screen, sometimes at the logon screen, and other times just during normal use.)
This problem became more prevalent, so i decided to try a repair install. It now hangs during this install as well. This computer is currently useless.
I did a clone backup of my old installation of windows xp (Home Ed.) to a new hard drive, after that, I disconnected the old hd and attempted to fix windows to no avail... I got frustrated after many attempts and decided to do a clean install (on the new H.D.). Windows setup perfectly... Today I tried to boot up with the old hd into windows to backup some quicken files I needed and windows wont boot... it will just hang at the welcome screen and stay there... Sometimes when I Alt-tab I see 2 processes 1 (Wndows Logon) 2 (windows welcome screen)... but that's it... I've tried everything but doing a repair install, since I'm afraid about getting stuck in the repair install (it has happened to me twice).

System manages to load past the black windows XP logo screen then changes to blue XP logon screen and hangs up. System does not completely hang up as still able to move cursor around screen.

View 3 Replies View RelatedUpgraded from ME to XP Home with SP2. After I rebuilt my address list I have notice 2 problems that are likely related. If I right-click on the desktop the system hangs and then refreshes itself almost like I logged off and logged back on. A second problem is that if I am in Windows Explorer and select File it does the same thing. I can install a new folder in an MS Office "save as" screen, but not from the File command. I have already reinstalled XP once - first time Outlook Express displayed messages but you could not open them. I hate to reinstall.
View 18 Replies View RelatedI recently installed SP3 and IE8 along with all updates. All went well except now Hibernate and Standby often kill the system including the cursor. If I boot and try Hibernate or Standby it usually works, but if I run for a while and try them they hang the system. The problem did not exist before I installed SP3 and IE8.

When I start the computer, it asks if for the choice of Safe Mode, w/ Networking, w/Command Prompt or Normally.
I've tried them all and if I try it normally, it won't get past the XP loading screen. It's loading and then it flashes a blue screen for a second and then restarts the computer again.
I tried pressing F8 at boot and selected 'Disable automatic restart on system failure' and this is what I get

I even tried using this http://forums.techguy.org/6669592-post28.html to get to chkdsk At boot, F12, chose CD/DVD, but still nothing, I even tried disabling boot from +HDD, FDD and LAN from the bios setup menu to see if it works and this is what I got, it just keeps going on and on unless I enable boot from +HDD

I have this strange problem:I can't see my Bios loading .The screen is totaly black untill the windows' welcome screen , and then everything is back to normal.
It happened when I updated my motherboard Bios (Gigabyte GA-8N-SLI ,Rev. 1.0) through the original vendor's Website
My dads pc was fine then all of the sudden it just restarted.And it came up to the options:restart in safe mode estart in safemode with networking estart in safe mode with networking Last known working config Normal But when he tries any of them.. None of them work The windows loading screen will come up flash a blue screen super fast (cannot read it no matter how hard i try) then go back to boot option screen.

It just goes black. The hard drive will run continually as if it's searching for the rest of the information, but can't find it.

View 9 Replies View RelatedThe issue started when I went into msconfig and checked 'safe mode' in boot.ini. I restarted my computer and every time it would get to the Windows XP loading screen it would get The Blue Screen. I fixed this issue by putting in the Windows CD and clicked repair.

View 1 Replies View RelatedMy PC is running absolutely stable (7 hours of orthos). Just bought this EVGA motherboard and swapped it in place of an Asrock motherboard and got everything running, overclocked and stable.Before I got Windows XP running (previous installation from the asrock mobo), I encountered an issue and i isolated it down to one of the 200gb 7200.7 SATA HD's.IF this HD is plugged in when the PC boots, then the Windows XP Boot screen appears and hangs. NOTE: it DOES NOT freeze - the bar still moves, but there is no HD activity and the pc stays like this for hours on end. Note again - this is not a hang. the activity bar still moves from left to right, and it keeps doing this indefinitely it seems (with no HD activity from any drives). IF this HD is not plugged in, the PC boots in straight away. All drivers are tip top (nforce drivers, SATA drivers). However if I hot-plug this drive from within Windows, it works fine!. The PC just doesn't boot with the HD plugged in.
View 1 Replies View RelatedIt is just a backup drive to be used for video editing -not a primary drive. However, once rebooting I get as far as the windows boot screen and then it hangs. The screen goes black, my monitors power down and nothing happens. Occassionally it reboots on it's own accord but instead of seeing the usual dos prompt screen all I get are some nastly looking blocky patterns. I usually have to turn the power off at the wall when this happens. I get no error messages on the screen at any time.
The good news is I CAN BOOT IN SAFE MODE! This is the difference I have found with other similar problems posted. I can boot in 'safe mode' and 'safe mode with networking' no problem. I can see all my HDD's and everything seems fine. From here I've tried doing system restore several times with no effect.
I am sorry i cannot give you the complete specs for the pc that is in trouble. However it runs an 80gig, cd drive, is about 4 years old, 64mg graphic card, 1.25g ddr ram 133, running xp. not sure home or pro. I would think home version. This system belongs to a friend who knows less than i. He recently had troubles with his system and I ran a few cleaning programs and made some adjustments to the system for better performance.Simple things such as choose for best performance, ccleaner, defrag the system and thats about all. Though I could not defrag drive D partition. A message said it had errors and needed or recommended it be scanned upon restart. So we did.
It all went well. Finished 5 of 5 then the next part it stuck at 0% and didnt recover from it. We waited say 40 minutes and still nothing so we restarted the system. It loads but hangs at the loading screen.I cannot use the xp recovery disc as it needs a password to get access and we do not have one. The system was bought from someone long ago. So recovery is out.Safe mode hangs when it gets down to mentioning the graphic card details and no other option will fully load either.Can anything be done here to get XP to boot?In the mean time I am currently setting up xp on another hdd and am going to try and retrieve as much data as I can from the crippled system. But if I can get it working then I will not have to sacrifice a HDD and not loose all of the outlook data etc.
A few weeks ago, I was having virus problems on my computer, along with various other problems, such as Norton not working. One of these problems was that I would boot up my computer, and it would be stuck on the Windows XP loading screen with the little green bar forever and would not load the user screen. However, I could get the computer to boot up in Safe Mode with Networking and could get just about everything to work fine. Thinking that the problem with loading was a virus that had erased some of my system files, I reinstalled Windows and reinstalled Norton correctly along a Sygate firewall. Everything was running fine, I was running Spybot and Ad-aware every day and a full system scan weekly, but today, I started having the loading problem again. I have no idea where to start fixing it. I am currently running Safe Mode with Networking, so I can use the internet and most of my other programs, but I want Normal mode back for obvious reasons.

So when I restarted my computer, everything was fine until I got to the loading screen (screen with the windows logo and the loading blue bar). View 14 Replies View RelatedWell last night I was on my computer as normal, and accidentally knocked the monitor plug out of the back of the monitor when I was moving stuff around on my desk and tried plugging it back in to reactivate it to no avail, and then tried unplugging and plugging it back in again on the back of the computer itself.
I then decided to just restart the system by switching it off manually by pressing the on button on the front, which is a normal procedure I've had to do lots of times before when trying to get my monitor(s) to work properly. It then went to the Windows screen with the usual blue bar scrolling across and rebooted. I let it reboot again, and it came up with some options to:
(F1) Run Setup
(Esc) Boot-up Menu
(F10) System Recovery
I decided at this point (since I've encountered this problem before and had to boot the system up from a different drive), to press Esc to run the boot-up menu and tried each of the options in turn, since it rebooted again after each and every option I chose.............
my parents PC got infected with spyware and the browser was hyjacked. I tried all I could to fix this but I couldn't. I tried posting here for help but didn't get anyone who could fix the PC. So I tried the windows restore. So I went to start>All programs>Accessories>System Tools>System Restore. I chose the date and it ran. Once it got to the end it rebooted the PC and it came up with the normal strtup procedure untill it said "loading windows xp" or "starting windows xp" something like that, once that goes I get a black screen with just the curser visible. So I tried to reboot and it came up with the settings like start in safe mode, start windows normally, previous settings etc... I have tried all these and they all do the same, black screen after loading. Now the PC has no windows disc thanks to the companys stop supplying the discs and it also has no restore disc.

It lasts for approximately 5 minutes and then the Windows XP loading screen comes up and boots to the desktop. This load is really annoying and has never happended to me on previous installs of Windows XP. Please let me know how to resolve this issue

Then it goes black, and stays black. I CAN however boot in safe mode (not safe mode with networking tough), and it works fine. I am also having problems finding my CD, but have the License Code. So a No-CD Answer would be wonderful

I've been through the site looking for an answer to my problem with no luck so here goes:I am trying to reformat my drive by starting over with my XP disc. After initiating install from the CD all goes well with the boot (loads drivers, and configures devices,etc). When it tries to load Windows I get a blue screen that says:error problem has been detected and windows has shut down.If this is the first time you've seen this stop error screen, restart, if not , follow these steps. Check for viruses. remove any newly installed drives or hard drives. check that the hard drive is configured properly. Run CHKDSK/F to check for corruption, then restart.

I ran an anti-spyware program, and it said it would run again when I restarted my computer to finish the job. I restarted my computer, and it never finished booting. It goes to the black screen with the Windows logo and the blue scrolling line just fine. Then it goes to the light blue screen with the dark blue borders and the words Microsoft Windows XP in the middle, and just stops. I know it is not frozen because there is a mouse pointer on-screen that I can still move. It stops at this same point no matter what mode I try to load in. I am using XP Home SP2.
