Is there any way in XP to install a device driver manually. I've tried using update driver in the device manager but it tells me I already have the best driver. If I unistall the driver, when I use the add hardware wizard, windows automatically installs its own driver.?

1. the driver comes with the system.
2. the device driver has been installed.
I wanna stop windows installing driver automatically but ask me the location of the driver when I plug in a device every time. How do I do that?
Whenever i install drivers on my pc, (i've tried graphics card drivers and wireless network card drivers) my pc stops working. When i installed the graphics card drivers, i tried testing the graphics on a game (counter-strike) but as soon as i got into the game, the pc flashes a blue screen, and reboots. I cant see what the blue screen says because it flashes on and off again to quick for me to read it. I decided to uninstall the graphics card drivers, and the game worked perfectly, but the graphics were REALLY bad. So i thought i might need to update some other drivers, so i tried to install my wireless network card, but when i finished installing the drivers when i had to restart my computer, it flashed the BSOD.... AGAIN! I need help urgently as im going to a LAN gaming comp called "rezidue" and its on in 2 weeks, i need my pc fixed by then! All these problems started when i upgraded my CPU. Everything was running smooth, and i was happily playing along on my computer, when i was asked what my FPS was in counter-strike, and i was all "mine are 65!" and there like "wow that sucks, mines 130" so i set out on my epic quest to get better FPS then everyone else and MAN THAT WAS A MISTAKE. I upgraded from my celeron 2.8ghz cpu to a P4 3.0ghz HT cpu, and thats when things started messing up on me. My entire system is as follows (incase it can help someone help me) P4 3.0ghz HT CPU, Microstar P4 motherboard, 128mb Nvidia Geforce mx4000 AGP x8 graphics card, 256MB ddr ram (recently brought new 1GB ddr ram off ebay just for rezidue! should be here soon!) View 4 Replies View RelatedI have a problem which many others seem to share, which is that the Scanner and Camera Wizard has suddenly ceased to appear automatically when downloading from a camera. Until a few days ago, I could plug my Olympus into my computer with a USB lead, and a box would crop up offering several courses of action. I would choose the one which permitted downloading the camera files to a folder. Next the Scanner and Camera Wizard would pop up, and after a few clicks, the camera files would be downloaded to my hard
drive, and any unwanted shots would be deleted. I mention all this because some people appear to think that the Scanner and Camera Install Wizard is the same thing, but it isn't.Various cures have been put forward, like uninstalling Real Player 10, finding wiaacmgr.exe and renaming it to Scanner and Camera Wizard, and reinstalling the camera. I have tried these without success, and the wiaacmgr file is not present on either of my XP computers (one Pro, the other Home). I have also downloaded Autofix.exe, which found nothing wrong, and tried to persuade Autoplay to do the business.
I use earthlink DSL and the offered a clean up system for free (PC finetune) so I tried it because my computer was a little slow. Well, after installing and rebooting up dates came up. I let in automatically install updates. I know 'stupid'. I now have it set to notify me before installing. Anyway, one of the updates was some version on windows explorer. It is always attempting to Install. It doesn't say what what it is installing. I look on the internet and one told me how to find out what it is attempting to install. It came back as "3.1.400.5512" I'm think that is internet explorer 3.1 not sure. It slows my computer, won't let me go online because it interfers with the sign on window pop up.

But after heading over to dell's site, downloading all of the drivers for her computer and then installing them, i STILL do not have any internet. which i think refers to a stop a1 as well.
ive tried using 2 different type of memory on the m-board and still get the same error.
there are no other hardware besides a cdrom and hdisk, mosue and keyboard. i did have an old logitech mouse but swapped that as i read that can cause problems too.
i dont know how to go about fixing this as their is a hotfix for acpi problems but thatr equires u to actually have windows on teh pc in teh first place i.e safe mode.
i can get into bios and it performs POST no problems. the only other thing is it boots fromcdrom but it says no emulation.

I had to reboot in safe mode and uninstall SP3 to get back to normal, which is Service Pack 2. The PC is an HP Compaq SR1520NX with 1GB Ram and 160GB HD with plenty of room. The only hardware I had a bit of trouble with was an Nvidia AGP card which they helped me with updating the driver several months ago. I don't seem to have any problems otherwise with it. Tuner. I've had some problems getting it to recognize the tuner occasionally. Sometimes when I unplug it and re-plug it, it works.
How can I tell (from the error code) what is causing the stop screen?
Now when you visit some sites they will install some program onto your computer.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to set up a dual-boot with Ubuntu and XP64. Initially I just had Ubuntu on my one sata hdd and XP on an ide hdd. I decided it'd be better running XP on the sata drive too, so I resized my linux partition with gparter, and created a new NTFS partition.The problem is, when I try to install XP onto the drive, it cannot seem to see the sata drive. Nothing was listed at all except the ide drives and my usb drive.I did some looking and found the 64 bit sata drivers for my motherboard, managed to load them onto a floppy and load them into the XP setup. This was all fine again until the time to select a partition, where it seemed to list the drive, but only shows 'Unknown disk' 'There is no disk in the drive'.I tried deleting the partition I made with gparter to see if XP could at least see the 'unallocated space' but to no avail.I even tried making a boot disk in nLite with the sata drivers, but it made no difference (not really surprisingly).If I try to use the 32 bit drivers that came with my mobo, it won't let me install XP.I'm all out of ideas to why it won't work.

Over the last two weeks, I've reinstalled Windows five times. I'm literally at my wits end. Here's my problem...
Whenever I try to install almost anything, I get Stop error 0xF4, which is the termination of a system-critical process or thread. Sometimes it happens for no reason, but for the most part, it's usually just when I'm installing something. Unfortunately, I don't have all the parameters of the stop error, but according to the Overclockers Forum, my first parameter (0x03) denotes that it is a process that is being terminated.
There are sometimes when the sfc /scannow command can temporarily fix the problem (that is, to run it before installing an app, then install the application once it is finished) but that's not always the case.
It should also be noted that there are some instances when I get a 0x7A error, but this is seldom. I merely included it in the event that it may prove to be helpful.

The windows installer on my computer keeps popping up every now and then wanting to install a program I had downloaded on the net but do not want anymore. I have deleted the downloaded program file but windows installer still keeps popping up wanting to install the program.

Recently I bought a very cheap Acer Aspire M1640-E1150 which came with an MSI motherboard, an Intel Pentium Dual Core E2200, 2 GB of DDR2 RAM, and a 320 GB HDD from Hitachi. The system came with Vista initially installed on it, and needless to say, it was very slow! I decided to do the right thing and go to XP, so I found all the drivers required and I proceeded to install Pro from a disc that I have from a previous computer. As soon as the screen booted up and the system was being checked by the program, the system gave me an error message, before I even got to partition anything, it was initial. I tried to restart, took one of my RAM sticks out, but nothing was working. I even tried to format the HDD through an external drive, but nothing was working.
The error message is "Stop: 0X0000007B" and something about a virus or a software or a hardware being the problem. The system was running smoothly on Vista, and I even formatted the C drive, and I am sure that there were no viruses.
I have an ailian computer with XP Home on it. After installing sp2 my usb ports stoped working. In device manager the usb root hubs and ports say that they are working but the mouse and game controler do not function. I do not get power to my mouse either.

It won't allow me to skip this, and if I click cancel, the mouse isn't installed, and an error window appears saying that an error occured during the new hardware's installation.
View 3 Replies View RelatedMy computer came preinstalled with a whole bunch of HP garbage I didn't want.. So I bought a copy of WINxp pro and tried to install.. Upon doing this It couldn't read my hard drive, which I later determined was due to the fact it is a SATA hard drive and the XP install cd doesnt have the drivers for it. Solution was, I changed a setting in my computer's BIOS to change the raid mode to IDE instead of SATA, then the install proccess went fine. Problem is now I have to keep it at IDE, and if I turn it back to SATA the computer retstarts after the Starting Windows screen with the Windows icon, I assume this is due to the fact that Windows didn't bother installing any SATA drivers since I installed in IDE mode... Could somone please point me in the right direction as to what I need to install/configure to allow WIN to boot up with my BIOS using SATA mode?
