A dell computer about a year and a half ago and its time for a format. I have the install disk for the XP OS, and the sound card and all that, but there is no video card installation disc, i dont believe it came with one. I am just wondering if i reformat my computer (Dell) will it automatically install the video drivers
View 14 RepliesI want to update my video card drivers because my video card is acting up and I want to see if new drivers will fix it.I printed out the instructions from ATI's site and followed it exactly. I used Add/Remove Programs and clicked on the ATI Software Uninstall Utility. I rebooted the computer. I went into Safe Mode. I tried to install the drivers.Upon doing this, every time I run the setup to install the new drivers, I get this error message:"INF Error: Video Driver Not Found" This happens if I try to install the latest Catalyst version. This happens if I try to install an older Catalyst version.This even happens if I try to reinstall the drivers that I just had (it installed fine before so why is the 5.11s giving me that error now)!

I have tried mediaplayer, winamp and real player and both my computers but with no luck. the files will play from my dvd OK and a friends pc has no problem playing them.My problem is that i havnt a clue where to start to sort the problem out.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI hate to be redundant---especially on my first post---but I have just started having the same problem, whether I'm trying to view a .wmv file using Windows Media Playe (9, 10, or 11) or trying to watch a DVD using Intervideo WinDVD. I have the Mobile Intel 945GM chipset video drivers, but of course their website offers no kind of support about this. I have PLENTY of these "minidumps" to offer for someone's perusal if anyone would care to help a guy out? I'm stuck in a hotel for the next three days with no way to watch DVDs, and the bare network TV for entertainment.

recognized the hardware but could not find any drivers. I tried unplugging it manually, installing it in another card slot with no luck. I took it back to
my pc dealer and he plugged it in his system and had no problems. I decide to try another brand, an IO Gear GIC1394.
Is there any way in XP to install a device driver manually. I've tried using update driver in the device manager but it tells me I already have the best driver. If I unistall the driver, when I use the add hardware wizard, windows automatically installs its own driver.?

The laptop has a Nvidia 8600M GS video card, and I cannot for the life of me find any drivers for the video card that work with XP. The drivers on Nvidia's website are not for laptops, and I have seen on other forums that there are driver issues with HP notebooks and XP.When I boot Windows XP, images load very slowly and my video card does not even show up in the device manager. Does anyone know if there's a way to get drivers for this card that work in XP?

I want to do a clean install but the problem is when I put in the XP pro CD and boot from CD-ROM it brings up the blue screens, tells me it is loading the files and then it just goes into loading windows, then brings me up an error screen. I have tried this with my XP Home CD as well and the dame problem occurs.

When I go to reformat with my DELL Windows XP Home Edition CD I will then revert back to SP1. I have SP3 installed onto my computer right now. I also have a SP2 CD I got from Microsoft about 3 years ago or so. Should I first install the SP2 cd or is there no need to do that seeing SP3 should have all of SP2 updates in it?

I have a Giga-byte K8NXP-SLI motherboard (yeah I know, I realize my mistake now...), and this board has an Nforce 4 SLI chipset. I do use the SATA-II/SATA-3G connection on the board, I run two 300GB Maxtor Diamondmax 10 SATA drives. I have installed the Nforce 4 SATA-Floppy F6 drivers on the XP install and now have not nearly as many issues as before with this chipset

The flags are listed for the ethernet controller, multimedia audio controller, PCI modem, SM Bus controller, unknown device, and the video controller (vga compatible).

View 3 Replies View RelatedI did an in-place repair of XP MCE 2003. I had previously installed all MS security fixes and updates, the list in my "installed programs" showed about 70 or 80 updates. The in-place repair gave me an unscrambled registry, and an unpatched XP install, without touching my installed programs or data. A good thing, overall, it fixed my major problem.
I immediately went to get all the updates -- 76 of them downloaded. I don't let Updater install automatically -- I get all the updates, but decide which to install because I got a bad version of IE7 that took me a long time to delete and recover from, but I installed ALL security updates. I generally use FireFox, so I didn't view IE7 as a security update. Anyway, it installed one or two updates, and then said the rest could not be installed....
I use earthlink DSL and the offered a clean up system for free (PC finetune) so I tried it because my computer was a little slow. Well, after installing and rebooting up dates came up. I let in automatically install updates. I know 'stupid'. I now have it set to notify me before installing. Anyway, one of the updates was some version on windows explorer. It is always attempting to Install. It doesn't say what what it is installing. I look on the internet and one told me how to find out what it is attempting to install. It came back as "3.1.400.5512" I'm think that is internet explorer 3.1 not sure. It slows my computer, won't let me go online because it interfers with the sign on window pop up.

Every time when windows start,there is a pop-up message from the task bar stating that a new hardware 'bus controller' was found and a large dialog box appears that prompts me to install the hardware.So I follow the instruction and check for 'install the software automatically' but failed.I tried several times but not successful.I then go to Device Manager and found a yellow exclamation mark under 'Bus Controllers'.Here I tried to right-click on it and hit 'update driver' but also failed.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI recently went through a "Blond Moment". I decided I was going to update my SIS IDE Driver on my computer. I downloaded the newest drivers from my motherboard manufacturer, saved them to file in the C: drive Now, here is the blond moment:
I uninstalled the old sis IDE driver (rather than changing it to standard IDE driver) and it prompted me to reboot on completion.(Blond again) I clicked yes, I meant to install the new driver before doing this, but I didn't read it right so the computer rebooted.Now on boot up I get a BSOD. It basically asks me to check my hard drive (which I know is good, its new) or reinstall the IDE drivers (which I don't know how to do outside windows) or run a virus scan (done) to be sure that isn't causing the error.I went into recovery console with hopes to restore the SIS or standard IDE Driver, but Im lost, and don't know how to do that exactly. Is there anyone who knows how to install these drivers (remember I cant boot to windows safe or otherwise)OR Should I just do a repair install and will that even fix this dumb thing Ive done?
