View 16 Repliesi have xp pro sp2 on a disc and when i try to install it, i get to the partition screen and it shows i have only one drive, with 2gb on it, in FAT format, which is my USB drive i have plugged in,then below it, it says theres an unknown disk in there, no drive is plugged in (or something like that). So, it wont let me reformat my main drive and install xp on it. I have vista x64 already on it and i wanna go back to XP. When i use my Vista install disk, it can find the disk and format it easily. So would it be possible to format it using the vista disk, then restart with xp disk in and boot from there?

View 7 Replies View RelatedIt's a shame that me did a grave error. I am in terrible shock for that I did the following:
a) Installed Sun Solaris Express x86 Developer Edition with a 7.5 GB partition.
b) There is Windows XP SP2 on the first 20 GB partition.
I wanted to toggle boot flag by using DOS based fdisk after the Solaris installation. That's where me screwed up I ran a bootable Russian language DOS tools. Instead of toggling the boot flag (option 2 in the fdisk), me accidentally (while taking an overseas call) selected (option 1) the FAT formatting the existing NTFS partition (fdisk ran for 1%, then me immediately stopped and rebooted. But, already damage done My NTFS got screwed up by me.....
I have 3 hard drives, one 40 gig, one 20 gig and a 160 gig, i have xp professional on the 40 gig and i use the 160 gig for all my game. What i want to do is put windows millennium on the 20 gig hard drive, is it possible without formatting my other drive and create a dual booting system.

View 11 Replies View RelatedI put in my new 4g SD micro I bought off ebay and try to add music to it, instead I get "the Disk in Drive F is not formated". So I try to format it and it says "windows was unable to complete the format"? I look at the "File system" and it show FAT. Now I have read that in order to get mp3's to play you must have it set to FAT32? I can't change the "File system" it has no other options in the drop down?

View 6 Replies View RelatedYeah I have reformatted my hard drives a few times over the years so I am no stranger to it however I am just curious about something. When I go to reformat with my DELL Windows XP Home Edition CD I will then revert back to SP1. I have SP3 installed onto my computer right now. I also have a SP2 CD I got from Microsoft about 3 years ago or so. Should I first install the SP2 cd or is there no need to do that seeing SP3 should have all of SP2 updates in it?

View 8 Replies View RelatedAbout a week ago I reformatted my computer. Everything worked wonderfully and my computer ran great. Then 3 days ago at the end of the night I went to shut it down and it said "install updates and shut down." So, I told it to install and shut down. The next day when I went to turn it on, for the first time since that shutdown, it froze on the XP loading screen. I manually turned it off, then tried again and selected to start windows normally. It came up fine, and ran just great since then, with a couple of different shutdown and restarts in between. Last night, it again said "install updates and shut down." I clicked for it to install and shut down. Now this morning I can't get past the XP loading screen. I have tried 4 different times. I don't know what to try. I also, don't know if the "install and shut down" is part of the problem or just a coincidence.

It had an option for an automated repair thing but then it asked for a floppy disk - I didn't have one. When if finally came to the window with an option to repair the system, I hit 'r' It then said there was no hard drive available and could not proceed with the repair.

My virus software quarantined all the infected files, but wininet.dll is needed to run explorer.exe. View 5 Replies View RelatedI am using Windows XP Professional, service pack 1 is installed. A few days ago the PC would not boot up. I had to reinstall Win XP Pro. All my programs had to be reinstalled because Windows did not acknowledge they were there. All 23 of them work fine. Here's where I ran into a problem. I use a Matrox G200 Quad card with TV Tuner. I downloaded and installed the software for the card and that too is fine. When I download the software for the TV part of the card to work, I double click on the unzipped set up file and it starts working, that gets to the part where it says "Preparing to Install" then it just disappears. It worked before the reinstall of windows. How can i figure it out.

View 4 Replies View Relatedmy XP install started acting up and whenever it loaded the XP boot screen, my HDD light stayed on, and after a couple of minutes, my computer restarted itself. To find the problem, I started XP in safe mode, and it went to load up till a file mup.sys(?), can't remember. I re-plugged my SATA cable (I have a Samsung SpinPoint 160GB on a MSI P965 Neo-F running a Core 2 Duo E6600 at stock clocks), switched the cable, and checked that my mobo's bios was emulating the RAID device on IDE. The thing is, every other OS finds my HDD (even Win 2000!): Linux, Vista, Mac OS-X (I was desperate). I'm running openSUSE 10.2 right now, and I desperately need Windows back! My dad won't let me install Vista yet.
