When I turn on my computer, it automatically tries to install some photo program. There are also other problems such as the computer restarting itself with no warning, and it sometimes reverts to a "blue screen of death" where my only choice is to turn off my computer manually. I'm wondering if something could have gotten past my anti-virus software.

When I attempt the install I get this message. "D: DJCPINST.EXE The NTVDM CPU has encountered an illegal instruction cs:0dff IP:0114 OPc7b62c Choose close to terminate application" I called Adobe tech but they feel it is a deeper issue with my window system.

I know I'll end up with tons and tons of folders in program files. Beyond that, I can't access program files from the other computers on the network. Is there a good way to reorganize/move files to my C drive in a way that would be efficient and wouldn't require reinstalling every single program in a different place?

It doesn't take more than a second or two to close the window but I find it frustrating that I am unable to prevent it from happening. I suspect that the answer lies somewhere in the Register but I have no idea where.

that "it had not been shut down correctly last time." I think I did shut it down correctly last time. The BIOS offered me two options. 1) Hit F1 to Boot or 2) Hit F10 to continue. I hit F10. That took me to a screen where I had to guess what to choose. Did I want to Save and Exit? Computer is all of a sudden very slow. When I did a computer check for information regarding software, I found that many strange software files run automatically at startup. When I checked "msconfig", I only found 24 programs starting at startup which were normal. How do I eliminate these strange files. I don't know which one of these are necessary and I don't know how to eliminate them. They appear as "unknown". One example of a startup file is "zipfldr". There are pages of other ones.

This is my Mom's computer and lord only knows how this happened, but for example, when I click start > all programs > microsoft office > word, it's icon is not the word icon, but the icon for another program on the computer. It is like this all over the place.When I click on word, it starts opening the program that is associated with the icon and not word. Any idea why this may be happening and how I can fix it? I tried right-clicking on the program > properties, but the find target button is grayed out so I can't change the program it's associated with.

I wasn't aware of this like I'm sure many, so I read where I could purchase for 149.00 a windows upgrade tool and make my windows XP GENUINE. On line I purchased the upgrade tool. I gave microsoft 149.00 and two days later an email came with product key and took me to a sight to run software to check to see if windows was intact. It ran flawlessly and checked my windows xp and said it was complete. Congraltions menu. After a reboot a message came up that I must activate this windows program. I tried to activate it by online, following instructions, but error said my product key wasn't valid. I then called and spoke with three different activation techs that were unable to help and said I needed the CD.

View 14 Replies View RelatedI just built a new system with an Asus PK5-E/WIFI-AP P35, an EVGA 8800GT, and an E8400. I updated the BIOS on the motherboard to support the CPU properly. But when I went to run the XP install from the CD (SP2 slipstreamed), it inspects the system for hardware information and then goes to a black screen. The whole system stays on, and the hardware goes idle.I know the CD works fine and the CD drive is ok. I had transplanted them into the older system to check to see if something was up. The ram seems fine, ran memtest86+ for a few hours with no errors. I tried pulling some of the ram out but nothing changed. I'm completely stumped as to whats wrong.

This is a laptop currently running Windows 98 SE. 98 works fine for me but I hate installing drivers. The laptop is an Compaq Presario 1235. I used my add & remove program to uninstall the program but not all of it got uninstalled. I deleted the folder and then did a search in my registry for anything with refernce to the programs name "Ebay's Blackthorne" and deleted all entries with that name.Every time I reboot windows tries to install something for Blackthorne and I have to keep cancelling it out.

View 14 Replies View RelatedI did an in-place repair of XP MCE 2003. I had previously installed all MS security fixes and updates, the list in my "installed programs" showed about 70 or 80 updates. The in-place repair gave me an unscrambled registry, and an unpatched XP install, without touching my installed programs or data. A good thing, overall, it fixed my major problem.
I immediately went to get all the updates -- 76 of them downloaded. I don't let Updater install automatically -- I get all the updates, but decide which to install because I got a bad version of IE7 that took me a long time to delete and recover from, but I installed ALL security updates. I generally use FireFox, so I didn't view IE7 as a security update. Anyway, it installed one or two updates, and then said the rest could not be installed....
I use earthlink DSL and the offered a clean up system for free (PC finetune) so I tried it because my computer was a little slow. Well, after installing and rebooting up dates came up. I let in automatically install updates. I know 'stupid'. I now have it set to notify me before installing. Anyway, one of the updates was some version on windows explorer. It is always attempting to Install. It doesn't say what what it is installing. I look on the internet and one told me how to find out what it is attempting to install. It came back as "3.1.400.5512" I'm think that is internet explorer 3.1 not sure. It slows my computer, won't let me go online because it interfers with the sign on window pop up.

And afterwords for about 3 days, it seemed to function ok. Then it just quit booting. I told him we would need to reinstall windows. I was kind of shocked we did not have to in the first place. Anyways, So now I am trying to reinstall windows:I can get it to boot from the windows cd, it goes through the standard list of drivers, and at the end says, "setup is starting windows"... Then it just hangs there indefinately. Typically after this, you get to the screen that asks you if you want to install windows, then you hit f8 to agree to there stuff, then you get to partition ect. I mention these things so you will know what part I am talking about.

Then, it decided not to boot up one morning, in either regular or safe mode.It won't boot from the CDROM drive either. It does boot from floppy.I've replaced RAM, taken out all non-essential hardware, replaced HDD cables.HDD can be recognised in another system.Mouse and KB are not usb.I removed the HDD partition, intending to reload XP, but the load hangs on "setup is starting windows" and never goes anywhere - i left it overnight, just to be sure.I repartitioned and reformatted using a 98 disk, just for kicks, to see if it'd work. Yep, boots to c:> HDD manufacturer's diagnostic reports no errors.I have put in another, new SATA HDD, as well as a new ide hdd.

Whenever I boot up the PC, 3 sessions of MS Word open - 2 sessions have a new (blank) document open, and the 3rd session just shows Word as being open (no new document).I went to Documents and Settings | Application Data | Microsoft | Word | Startup to see if there was anything in the folder prompting Word to open the 3 sessions. The folder was empty. I then clicked Start | Run | msconfig | Enter to see if Winword.exe is in the Startup folder. I thought I might see it in there 3 times – one for each of the Word sessions that are opening whenever I boot up the PC. Strangely enough, Winword.exe wasn’t in the Startup folder at all – not even once.
