View 12 RepliesI'm a new member to this site. Found some posts pretty interesting and hence thought that this would be the place where I may get the solution to my problem. I have a SONY DVD RW AV-G170A installed on my Dual Processor Pentium PC. There are some Movie DVD's which I can play and view movies perfectly. The drive recognizes the media and plays the movies But there are some DVD's which when inserted in the drive are not recognised by Windows AT ALL - under any circumstances. It says "Windows cannot read from the this disk. The disk might be corrupted, or it could be using a format that is not compatible with Windows"
THE DVD ROM IS WORKING PERFECTLY OK WITH OTHER SOME MOVIE DVD'S AND SOME DVD'S GIVING THE ABOVE MENTIONED PROBLEM.
I understand that XP/sp3 does not need drivers for cd rom drives - nec/rw and sony However,xp does not recognise my cd rom drives

Tried it and it rejects (error 691 incorrect user name or password).Problem is that both user name and password are correct. I am able (using another isp account) to access Webmail directly at the isp using exactly the same password and user name.Problem appears to be specific to my computer.I am able to access the account using my laptop (using exactly the same password and User name and yes I have got the caps-lock off).

The objective of the exercise was to be able to access old important data files. The primary hard drive is fitted as a Master and the secondary as a Slave. BIOS Setup recognizes the slave hard drive (cylinders, heads, size etc) but Windows does not!

View 4 Replies View RelatedI have a Western Digital 200GB second hard drive with two partitions on it and I wanted to make it a single drive. (both partitions were empty and had been formatted). Using "System Explorer" I deleted the partition but the drive capacity still reads 127 Gigabytes -- which was the size of the larger of the two partitions. In the "disk management" tab of System Explorer the graphic display shows one drive where there was two (and a longer "bar") but I can't seem to get the computer to recognize the new size. I've checked it, defragmented it, and begged with it but so far nothing works. I also downloaded and tried a program called "HDD Capacity Restore" but it says the "device has to be single on a channel", which it is not.

When I turn on my computer, it automatically tries to install some photo program. There are also other problems such as the computer restarting itself with no warning, and it sometimes reverts to a "blue screen of death" where my only choice is to turn off my computer manually. I'm wondering if something could have gotten past my anti-virus software.

I have tried several data recovery programs to try and retrieve some important photo's. Some I've had more the success than others. It was clear that the ones which you pay for is better than the free versions [find more files] On the ones that let you see a list of what it's found but does not let you retrieve the photo's unless you pay for the full programme On a couple of programs they showed the 'missing' files and file names and I'm wanting to buy.

and after I selected the photos, I was asked if I wanted to resize them, and
then after I e-mailed them, the photos always appeared in the e-mail once it
was opened (not as an attachment). Now I use Outlook, and when I try to send
the photos from "My Photos" folder, they are sent as attachments, and they
are not viewable in the actual e-mail. I have searched for a setting to
change this, but I can't find any. Does anyone know how I can send multiple
photos in an e-mail using Outlook, so that they can be viewed as soom as the
e-mail is opened, rather than having to download and open each individual
photo as an attachment?
I am running Windows XP Home and am having a problem making a specific photo editor (Arcsoft's PhotoStudio 5.5) the default program for opening image files stored in the 'My Pictures' folder in My Computer. When I first attempted to achieve it, I right-clicked on an image in 'My Pictures' and selected "Open With". I then Browsed to C:/ProgramFiles/Arcsoft/PhotoStudio 5.5/PhotoStudio.exe and clicked on Open. the PhotoStudio name appeared in the Folder options, but not the PhotoStudio icon. Instead I got the DOS icon. When I then clicked on OK, I was told that the image is not a valid WIN32 application. So, obviously Windows XP is not recognising the program.

I bought a used computer and monitor for my niece. They work fine, running xp. BUT the icons and fonts on the desktop are incredibly fuzzy. The photo used as the background is clear and crisp. It is only the icons and icon text that are fuzzy. I tried going to properties>appearnce>advanced, but the font is tahoma and 8. Went to properties>appearance>effects and fade effect is checked, also shadows, dragging contect, hide underlined letters. The edge smoothing was unchecked, so I tried standard>no change in fuzziness; tried clear type>no change in fuzziness. What am I missing?
