Try To Delete It Windows Displays Message / Cannot Delete Filename

Mar 17, 2007

I have a very large, corrupt disc image on my hard drive that I want to delete, but every time I try to delete it Windows displays the message "Cannot delete 'filename': it is being used by another person or program. Close any programs that might be using the file and try again." The disc image is not mounted with any program, and hasn't been for some time. I tried aborting random processes that I thought might have something to do with the file, as well as restarting. No matter what I do, there seems to be something using the file. Are there any tricks to getting around this so I can delete it? Can I check, somehow, to see what program is using it?

Files With Extension Of Jpg Cant Be Saved Untill Type Extension

Jun 17, 2005

For some odd reason now, everything on my desktop, and inside of my folders, pictures with the extension of JPG and so forth are not able to be saved unless i type in the extension also. I have no clue what could have triggered such an error, and I have no clue how to fix it. If I go and try to rename a file in my Pictures folder, for example, I can't rename it unless i type it as...."image.jpg"....I can't just save it as plain old, "image" - what the heck is going on? Does anyone know what happened or how to fix this?

DVD ROM Does Not Recognise Some Movie DVD's

Oct 9, 2007

I'm a new member to this site. Found some posts pretty interesting and hence thought that this would be the place where I may get the solution to my problem. I have a SONY DVD RW AV-G170A installed on my Dual Processor Pentium PC. There are some Movie DVD's which I can play and view movies perfectly. The drive recognizes the media and plays the movies But there are some DVD's which when inserted in the drive are not recognised by Windows AT ALL - under any circumstances. It says "Windows cannot read from the this disk. The disk might be corrupted, or it could be using a format that is not compatible with Windows"
THE DVD ROM IS WORKING PERFECTLY OK WITH OTHER SOME MOVIE DVD'S AND SOME DVD'S GIVING THE ABOVE MENTIONED PROBLEM.

Tried it and it rejects (error 691 incorrect user name or password).Problem is that both user name and password are correct. I am able (using another isp account) to access Webmail directly at the isp using exactly the same password and user name.Problem appears to be specific to my computer.I am able to access the account using my laptop (using exactly the same password and User name and yes I have got the caps-lock off).

Fresh Install Windows Home / Locking Up At End Of Install

Feb 14, 2005

I have two computers, one I use for gaming, the other for school. Both computers had 60gb Maxtor (school with lots of room, gaming with about 10 gb free). My school HD took a powder (the evil clicky noise of doom), but I was able to back up my files prior to that. Me being a quick thinker, I decide to upgrade my gamer puter to a 120gb (don't wanna go too nutso, as I am considering building a much superior computer), and put the good 60 gb in my old Athlon 700. Problem? I cannot get Windows XP Home to complete install on my gamer computer. (Athlon 700 installed just fine with 'good' 60gb).Gamer Computer: Athlon 1800+, 512MB DDR Ram 2100, KR7A Raid MOBO, GeForce3 Ti 200 (128MB DDR RAM), SB Audigy 2(AGP).

It is a RAID mobo, but i do not use the raid functionality, I did not have a problem before(I have my HD and my 2 roms on ide now). I go through the install steps, and I get to the very very end, where it states you are about to start Windows XP, and then it hangs, and thats it.I have tried to ensure there are no conflicts, I pulled out my sound card as well as my network card, and 're-seated' my video card and RAM. I have tried looking at using a winxp bootup floppy, booted into safe mode (the only error it detects is the missing RAID, no conflicts detected there). Heck, I even swapped out mouse and keyboard. I tried putting back the good 60gb back in the pc, and reformatting, but still get the same thing(sometimes the screen is black, sometimes the icky blue of xp, but that's it).I have no idea now. I did make sure that my bios was up to date before taking down the system originally, and it was, so no change was made there. Even swapped out the ribbon cables to ensure nothing was damaged on original removal.

Disk Spce Unable To Recognise

Oct 24, 2008

I have a Western Digital 200GB second hard drive with two partitions on it and I wanted to make it a single drive. (both partitions were empty and had been formatted). Using "System Explorer" I deleted the partition but the drive capacity still reads 127 Gigabytes -- which was the size of the larger of the two partitions. In the "disk management" tab of System Explorer the graphic display shows one drive where there was two (and a longer "bar") but I can't seem to get the computer to recognize the new size. I've checked it, defragmented it, and begged with it but so far nothing works. I also downloaded and tried a program called "HDD Capacity Restore" but it says the "device has to be single on a channel", which it is not.
