View 5 RepliesI'm a new member to this site. Found some posts pretty interesting and hence thought that this would be the place where I may get the solution to my problem. I have a SONY DVD RW AV-G170A installed on my Dual Processor Pentium PC. There are some Movie DVD's which I can play and view movies perfectly. The drive recognizes the media and plays the movies But there are some DVD's which when inserted in the drive are not recognised by Windows AT ALL - under any circumstances. It says "Windows cannot read from the this disk. The disk might be corrupted, or it could be using a format that is not compatible with Windows"
THE DVD ROM IS WORKING PERFECTLY OK WITH OTHER SOME MOVIE DVD'S AND SOME DVD'S GIVING THE ABOVE MENTIONED PROBLEM.
Strange problem with my computer.I setup my computer to access my ISP by going to My Computer>Control panel>Network & dialup>Make new connection>etc. Put in all the data (telephone number and password). Tried it and it rejects (error 691 incorrect user name or password).Problem is that both user name and password are correct. I am able (using another isp account) to access Webmail directly at the isp using exactly the same password and user name.Problem appears to be specific to my computer.I am able to access the account using my laptop (using exactly the same password and User name and yes I have got the caps-lock off).

View 1 Replies View RelatedI am using Win XP and recently fitted a second hard drive. This was a fairly old Seagate out of an old Win95 computer (that died). The objective of the exercise was to be able to access old important data files. The primary hard drive is fitted as a Master and the secondary as a Slave. BIOS Setup recognizes the slave hard drive (cylinders, heads, size etc) but Windows does not!

View 4 Replies View RelatedI have a Western Digital 200GB second hard drive with two partitions on it and I wanted to make it a single drive. (both partitions were empty and had been formatted). Using "System Explorer" I deleted the partition but the drive capacity still reads 127 Gigabytes -- which was the size of the larger of the two partitions. In the "disk management" tab of System Explorer the graphic display shows one drive where there was two (and a longer "bar") but I can't seem to get the computer to recognize the new size. I've checked it, defragmented it, and begged with it but so far nothing works. I also downloaded and tried a program called "HDD Capacity Restore" but it says the "device has to be single on a channel", which it is not.

I've looked on sony vaio site for related xp drivers but as far as i can see there are none for pcmcia slot

It has No hard drive or DVD drives installed, those will come directly from my computer. View 6 Replies View RelatedI have setup a wireless network between two computers in my office and have installed some software that will automatically backup folders on each of the two computers. It work by backing up certain folders on computer 1 to the hard disk on computer 2 and vice versa.I also have a program installed on both computers that uses the data on computer 1.simplify the process of locating the data on my network I have created virtual drives using the Map Network Drives function in Windows. However; if I start up my computer and open these programs - they can not find the drives, I have to open My Computer first and double click on the drives before the programs will read from them. I am guessing that for some reason Windows is not connecting to these drives, even though I have set them to "reconnect at logon".
View 1 Replies View RelatedI recently installed the program registery fix and i believe it has caused my Cd and DVD drives or the paths to these drives to be deleted from windows as they do not show up in my computer. I have tried the options in the following list but none of them have helped me, i'm really stuck but i can't fix the problem.
- I've tried deleting the upper and lower filters but they are not in the selected registery.
- I've tried a system restore but i can't go back to a previous point before the registery fix install.
- I've tried unplugging the leads and restaring but this didn't help.
- I've tried microsoft guided help but it couldn't find the upper and lower filters.
- i beleive they are still listed in my bios but don't know exactly what i'm looking for when in bios.
I don't know where to go from here, i also run alcohol 120% a virtual drive software and the registery fix has had no affected on these drives but i'm wondering if this maybe why the program registery fix deleted my actual drives becasue of the virtual drives and replaced the paths to my actual drives but i'm not sure it's just a guess. I've deleted the virtual drives and tried the steps above but i've had no luck.
My operating system is Windows XP Pro. As of yesterday all was fine, I even burned a DVD. Today "My Computer" isn't even showing my DVD/CD recorder, only showing Drive A: 3.5 Floppy. It started when I downloaded (I think) WindowsBlinds, just wanted to do some color changes. Well when I installed it, Norton came up with a Trojan. Norton Quarantined or deleted it and said no more further actions required. The install finished (windowblinds) and I tried a couple different skins and decided to uninstall it. Uninstalled with Revo Uninstaller
View 6 Replies View RelatedI am using Windows XP Professional SP2 on an Asus A7N8X-E Deluxe MB. I have 5 internal HDD's and 2 external USB drives, I also have 2 DVD R/RW +- Dual Density drives, a Zip 250 and an Orb 2GB drive. So far this year I have had to reinstall my Windows like 8 times and done about 4 Windows repairs! Each time I seem to get 4 extra removable drives added to my system. In Disk Manager they are listed as "Generic STORAGE DEVICE USB Device", I have changed Device Usage to Do Not use this device (disable) and also I have uninstalled each device. Unfortunately, each time I restart the computer, they come back, shifting other drives to another drive letter.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI work for a fire department and they have Desktop Authority map certain network drives when they login. For some reason, DTA will map the drives when they login, and everything works fine, but after an hour or two, they lose connectivity to that drive and are no longer able to access it. I know this is very vague, but has anyone had this problem?BTW, I just recently upgraded from NT 4.0 to Server 2003 Standard, and we've had tons of other little problems with permissions and the like. Is this the cause of the dissapearing drives?

View 15 Replies View RelatedI have a friend who is having a problem with his laptop.I don't know what kind of laptop he has but the problem is his laptop cannot detect any cd/dvd rom drives. It will not detect the internal cd/dvd rom or an external dvd rom (connected thru usb2.0). It does however recognise the harddrive. He is using Windows 2000 OS. For obvious reasons he cannot put in the Win2000 CD and reinstall drivers (if that is what the problem is). So, does anyone know what could be wrong? I can get more information on the laptop if this would help.
