I have just reinstalled the OS on my computer and i am having a problem with the video display. When i go into Control Panel only 16 colours are available; my computer is a HP Vectra XE310. I have checked the HP website and have downloaded the drivers available but it hasn't solved the problem

View 11 Replies View RelatedI bought over a year ago and could use some helpful advice to help fix some problems ive been having. I really do not know much about computers although im taking classes to get my knowledge up to par in spring these problems need to be handle as soon as possible so i can work on some family projects. Just to give you an idea i would start LimeWire or IMESH and start downloading stuff then all of a sudden boom it hangs and doesnt respond and screws my whole system up. Not only those programs but games as well. Ive tried everything i could think of, PCBugdocter, Registry Cleaner, Adaware, Spybot, and PCBoost and nothing gives. My hardware all checks out ok on the service manager with none errors that i can see. My hardware also has the latest up to date drivers.

I used Add/Remove Programs and clicked on the ATI Software Uninstall Utility. I rebooted the computer. I went into Safe Mode. I tried to install the drivers.Upon doing this, every time I run the setup to install the new drivers, I get this error message:"INF Error: Video Driver Not Found" This happens if I try to install the latest Catalyst version. This happens if I try to install an older Catalyst version.This even happens if I try to reinstall the drivers that I just had (it installed fine before so why is the 5.11s giving me that error now)!

The laptop has a Nvidia 8600M GS video card, and I cannot for the life of me find any drivers for the video card that work with XP. The drivers on Nvidia's website are not for laptops, and I have seen on other forums that there are driver issues with HP notebooks and XP.When I boot Windows XP, images load very slowly and my video card does not even show up in the device manager. I have the Mobile Intel 945GM chipset video drivers, but of course their website offers no kind of support about this. I have PLENTY of these "minidumps" to offer for someone's perusal if anyone would care to help a guy out? I'm stuck in a hotel for the next three days with no way to watch DVDs, and the bare network TV for entertainment.

I then shut my computer down to restart it, used it a few times (in 4-bit safe mode), then after I shutdown again, I cant log back in... it just freezes and the screen flashes, I cannot boot into my computer setup (default f2) or into safe mode (default f8), however I can run the XP cd and get into the recovery console, is there any way that I can change the boot sequence from the recovery console? The screen is dotted with a bunch of dots up and down the screen in columns, and is in 4-bit video mode.
I have a Dell xps gen 5 with xp home.
the error I get is:
"Error: Cant enter setup. Video Mode 103 not supported by this video card."
I have managed to put video footage onto my PC from a video cassette (by plugging my VCR into the TV aerial socket). The video footage is saved on my PC as .mpg files & when I open them, they play fine on Windows Media Player.When I import them on to Windows Movie Maker, they are recognised as video footage and I am able to put them into the collections as video. However, for some reason, when I drag them onto the timeline, they go onto the audio line & I can't get them to go on the video line, so when I play it, the sound plays but there is no picture. I have tried saving them as .AVI files but that makes no difference
I have window XP SP2 installed on my laptop. I also use InterVideo WinDVD Creator for video editing. Recently when I try to import video file into my application, my laptop, processing percentage goes up to 98%, and the application just freezes up. I also tried the Microsoft movie maker software and I get the same result. I was wondering if I need to reinstall the application or there is something that my laptop is missing. The application was functioning fine until 2 days ago, and since then I haven't installed any other application.

Use fine, then after its been on for awhile it goes black again. Weird. I have the newest drivers and all the windows updates loaded. It just keeps going out. When i installed the graphics card drivers, i tried testing the graphics on a game (counter-strike) but as soon as i got into the game, the pc flashes a blue screen, and reboots. I cant see what the blue screen says because it flashes on and off again to quick for me to read it. I decided to uninstall the graphics card drivers, and the game worked perfectly, but the graphics were REALLY bad. So i thought i might need to update some other drivers, so i tried to install my wireless network card, but when i finished installing the drivers when i had to restart my computer, it flashed the BSOD.... AGAIN! I need help urgently as im going to a LAN gaming comp called "rezidue" and its on in 2 weeks, i need my pc fixed by then! All these problems started when i upgraded my CPU. Everything was running smooth, and i was happily playing along on my computer, when i was asked what my FPS was in counter-strike, and i was all "mine are 65!" and there like "wow that sucks, mines 130" so i set out on my epic quest to get better FPS then everyone else and MAN THAT WAS A MISTAKE. I upgraded from my celeron 2.8ghz cpu to a P4 3.0ghz HT cpu, and thats when things started messing up on me. My entire system is as follows (incase it can help someone help me) P4 3.0ghz HT CPU, Microstar P4 motherboard, 128mb Nvidia Geforce mx4000 AGP x8 graphics card, 256MB ddr ram (recently brought new 1GB ddr ram off ebay just for rezidue! should be here soon!) View 1 Replies View RelatedMy kid just disabled the video adapter on his XP Pro machine (Compaq, PII, on-board video) and now the initial Win XP screen comes up then goes dark once it gets mostly through the boot-up. It won't do any different in safe mode and even installing an AGP video card didn't get me around this. Short of reloading XP, is there a fix for this? Also tried reloading default BIOS settings just in case, no change.

Here is a video to show you what's going on at startup, When it happened I was working in Cubase. I'd just reset the audio driver, and it started doing like in the video. After a little bit, the signal cuts out completely. It's not the monitor, I've checked with a spare and it's the same. I don't have another video card around at the moment, but I'm wondering if it's likely to be an issue with the hardware, or software/virus type stuff.The computer is XP, 2gb ram, nVidia Geforce card (sorry, can't recall which one) etc. Incidentally the card itself looks fine, ie it doesn't look like it's shorted or anything.
