I want to remove a few right click functions that have added them selfs to my menu. I have managed to remove all but a few.These only occur when i right click a folder (i got rid of the ones for files).

View 3 Replies View RelatedSomething has happened to my installation of WinXP Pro. The Windows Explorer Right Click Menu has the selection "New" from which (among other things) I could chose to create a new folder.
Now when I right click and move to the "New" selection there is a dialog box the flickers on several times and then goes away and that's it. Nothing else. The dialog box goes away so fast it is hard to read but I THINK is says something about "Preparing to install".
I have never seen this problem before and haven't a clue how to fix it. Where in the registry is the stuff that controls what appears under the "New" selection? Perhaps it is corrupt in some way.
I sure hope someone can help me, this is a bummer.
I recently uninstalled Windows SP3 RC1 from my computer and reverted back to Windows SP2 through the use of Projekt (Project) Dakota. Before uninstallation though, one of my siblings had run this script to update to Windows SP3 RC2. I do not want to install the newest RC2, as I'm now waiting for a final release. I changed my Windows Update Settings to download but to not install, as it was already downloaded from yesterday. Is there anyway to remove the already downloaded but not installed update for Windows SP3 RC2, and is there anyway to remove the script (that tells the computer to download SP3 RC2?)

If I remember correctly, I had to create a new BMP file of certain dimensions, and use Adobe Photoshop to create a layer of vertical text, give the new file the same name as the old one, change the extension for the old file, and put the new one in the same location. Is the method for the Classic Start menu in Windows XP the same.
View 1 Replies View RelatedToday I had uninstalled several unused programs with the Add-Remove utility of Windows XP.Then I also unchecked a few services in the 'msconfig' (System Configuration Utility) and rebooted.Now, when I right-click on any folder or folder short-cut, the menu shows up only after waiting a full 3 minutes. The mouse cursor turns into the 'busy' indication and the system freezes during that time. The same scenario happens when I try to delete any folder (or folder-shortcut) using the 'Del' key on the keyboard. There is no such issue for any of the files.I would like to know what exactly is causing this problem and how it can be resolved. My PC is working fine now otherwise, and seems much faster than it was yesterday.

I read an article that said all you had to do was edit the Registry by doing a search for ShellNew and remove the entire key if you didn't want any of them. I did this several times and did find all of them at least 5 times. But they are still there.
View 3 Replies View Relatedmy windows is acting like it has no registry i can't access system restore, reg edit, etc. or and has icons only on the shortcuts which are defult like computer network bin etc. The files eg word doc or a pdf can been seen with the appropriate program. I can work programs like normal as i am using firefox, IE ain't working but i can acces computer which is IE . This has happened once before but i can't understand why i had karpersky and adware updated both times but didn't stop it. b4 it happened alot quicker but this time it took its time.
View 9 Replies View Relatedmy parents tried installing NAV 2005, and also the new Turbo Tax Deluxe. On both installation occurances the installation fails. I assumed it was a virus, because you cannot get to the windows update site, or the panda active scan site in internet explorer. I have ran spybot and adaware and also AVG virus software. they all found something related to internet explorer. So i tried reinstalling norton but it fails again when it gets to the same point, subscription confirmation shows on the installation window. anyways... i have found from messing around that the search function doesn't work, also i cannot edit user accounts. this computer does not have SP2, but is up to date otherwise. I would dl SP2, because maybe this is a problem from not having it, but i cannot get to the windows update site, and the automatic update will not work as i said before.

SP3 disabled the DVD functions on my Averatec 3200 series XP laptop. The DVD drive is made by QSI. I know this is a world wide issue, but have not found a recovery. My Hard Drive failed and I replaced it and have re-loaded XP using the supplied recovery disks. The DVD functions still do not work. I'm starting to suspect that the Bios or maybe an e-prom on the DVD drive board may have been buggered, else the re-load should have brought back the DVD functions.

Some problems I have found is that:The "Log Off" button in the start menu is missing. I cannot switch the control panel from the "New View" to the "Classic View". View 5 Replies View RelatedI have a similar issue to what was already stated. i had two accounts on my computer... one mine the admin and second a guest account my house mates. some how with out realising what an idiot i was i managed to change my profile from admin to normal user. However this is where things get a little different that above cause no longer is my profile shown on the computer. When i log on it doesnt give the option to even pick between the two account it only shows the guest account. Secondly it doesnt show it in normal xp fashion but shows it with a grey security box (such as work profile) with only my guest account name present. I have tried to manually type other user name and password in but it doesnt recognise it.
i can log in with the guest account but cant change anythign cause it isnt admin. it also doestn give the otpion anymore that when logging off to swtich user. it just turns off. its as though my own profile is no longer present or hidden and i cant find it anymore. I have seen it in the computer management area under users and groups but because im still under the non admin profile cant access it.
I just noticed that I don't have a spell check on my new XP SP2 box. This is due to the fact that I don't have MS Word, Excel, or Power Point installed (according to Help). My question: Is there some other way to get a functioning spell checker without one of these programs?? I have Word Perfect (Corel), which doesn't help with OE and I doubt that the free Power Point Reader would incorporate spell checking

When I double-click the icon, the icon gets highlighted, but the program or other folder does not open. I checked in the folder options, and it is set up so that when you double-click an icon, it opens the program. But the weird thing about it is that if I try to double-click or right-click an icon on my desktop.. it works like it should. So this really just doesn't make sense.
