After a new install I have 2 traits different from the way they have been for about 5 years and I would like to change them to what I am familar with. But afer googling,I am still lost , This one I think need a new registry value added and I never did that I have changed values but never added a whole new value. So if you can help me take it slow.I would like to remove the my recent documents on the start menu using the classic style.I have found several D value names to add and I would like the correct one.

When I reopened it, the changes hadn't stuck. Is this a peculiarity of the program i.e., it has some way of preventing changes to its features or have I failed in some way to save registry edits before exiting?
View 9 Replies View RelatedI have kaspersky anti virus installed on a windows 2000 server, it used to update from the administration kit. However problem with that server, means that the admin kit is no longer running.I cannot update kaspersky manually as it says it is controlled by administrator, and there is no update section of the settings, for me to change where the server looks for its updates.Think it maybe something that can be changed in the registry editor, however when i attempt to change the value, i get a 'Error writing the values new contents'The correct permissions have been set, but still not working.

Before uninstallation though, one of my siblings had run this script to update to Windows SP3 RC2. I do not want to install the newest RC2, as I'm now waiting for a final release. I changed my Windows Update Settings to download but to not install, as it was already downloaded from yesterday. Is there anyway to remove the already downloaded but not installed update for Windows SP3 RC2, and is there anyway to remove the script (that tells the computer to download SP3 RC2?)

View 14 Replies View RelatedRecently I became devoted to taking care of my computer by installing Anti-virus, spyware removers, and backup/performance utilties. Well I came across BartPE and it's features. Well I decided to use it and have the Rescue CD just incase. Doesn't hurt right? Plus the idea of it seems very helpful if I ever need a virtual Windows XP. I continued with the instructions and all was well until I got errors and warnings.
I posted the log here. I have no clue on what to do next. I used the CD that came with my Dell Dimension E521. I use Windows XP Media Center 2005.
I used at work, BartPE burned CD and a formatted USB thumbdrive (which I did not create) to boot my CPU's and it installed an "image" of windows XP onto the drive using Norton Ghost and everything thing moves great.I have read that most imaging software can be used to do this with BartPE. What I have not figured out yet though is how and where you put the image in BartPE when you do the "build" and then make it start ghost or the 'image' upon bootup in the cpu.
right now i have successfully created the BartPE CD and "thought" i had used the CMD to format C: drive then told it where to install the files from BARTPE to C: drive, which did not work ( i dont guess) for the computer now starts up into the BartPE without the CD rom now, but NO
I have XP SP2 running on a 160Gb drive that is in a Compaq nc8000 laptop.I can read the drive with an external USB drive caddy. Can read the drive with BartPE. Did a chkdsk and all is ok.Did a fixboot via the recovery console. It replaced the boot record.Checked boot.ini. All is ok.Deleted the hibernation partition from the drive.Replaced NTLDR with a known good version.Still does not work.
View 14 Replies View RelatedStrange occurance on a machine today. There was nothing wrong with the rig running XP Pro. I was testing a BartPE bootdisk with WiFi drivers for the specific card that was on the computer. Boots up PE no prob, no joy on the NIC though, but thats not the issue. I'll fix that later. When I exited PE and restarted the machine the boot.ini had been modified. It now showed 3 instances of Windows XP (which where non existent) and when I booted into windows it had re-enabled ALL the startup programs (all but a few where disabled through msconfig) and even some previously disabled Services had been restarted. Everything else was fine, it took a bit of work to change it all back and correct the boot.ini file, but just wondering if anyone know WHY this would have happened. I cant think of anything in the PE boot that would have done that

I am very familiar with DVD Decrypter and DVD Shrink, but they are not for this type of editing, apparently. With DVD Shrink, all I can do is cut the beginning and the end credits etc. Is there something like DVD Shrink, but better, that lets you cut out the commercials and then encode it and burn it?

View 13 Replies View RelatedIn Windows XP, for an individual file, you can right-click an individual file, and then click Properties, then Summary, then enter the comments and keywords. But this is very cumbersome. Is there an easier way? I'd like to be able to enter the same keywords for multiple files at the same time (Explorer won't let you), and/or just click the file and type the information in a side-pane.

View 1 Replies View RelatedIs there a way to remove and/or edit the words: Windows XP Home Edition from the left side of the Classic Start menu? I did it with Windows 98. If I remember correctly, I had to create a new BMP file of certain dimensions, and use Adobe Photoshop to create a layer of vertical text, give the new file the same name as the old one, change the extension for the old file, and put the new one in the same location. Is the method for the Classic Start menu in Windows XP the same.
